Real Techniques Prep + Color Lip Set Review

Real Techniques Prep + Color Lip Set ($19.99) is a new, limited edition makeup brush set dedicated to lips and lips only. So, I’m totally a basic kind of girl when it comes to lip anything. If someone asked me what I’m most obsessed with in the makeup world I likely wouldn’t say lipstick nor lipgloss. I’m more of a palette kind of girl. I like big giant eyeshadow palettes with endless rows of colors. But lipstick and lipgloss? Mmmm, sure I like ’em, I wear ’em, but am I obsessed with them? Not really.

So, do I really need the Real Techniques Prep + Color Lip Set?

Possibly.

I’m not exactly an artist when it comes to applying lipstick. It’s an uncap, smooth on, and go situation. But you might be a little more artsy once you try this set. Real Techniques includes some interesting tools (as well as a video by Sam and Nic Chapman to use these to create a variety of looks) in this set to create a variety of looks.

The set comes with four different lip brushes as well as a brush canister with a mirror located on the lid to store your brushes in. The Lip Smoothing Brush is one I’m utterly in love with. I tend to have drier lips and this dense, circular brush can be used to gently buff lip scrub into your lips to whisk away flakes and dryness. Another interesting brush is the Lip Fan Brush which is a tiny fanned brush with soft bristles that can be used to perfect the outer edges of your lips and highlight your Cupid’s bow. Does it sound gimmicky? Maybe. Does it work? Yes! Due to drier lips my lip color tends to look a little uneven at the top of my lip line this little brush actually smooths and evens out color for a really flawless finish. Who knew I’d be raving a lip brush?

You also get a Lip Lining Brush that’s great for ombre shaping or detailed lip art and a standard Lip Brush with a flat side and a tapered tip to load color up from either a tube of lipstick or your favorite lipstick palette!

I’m not much of a lip person and I don’t get too technical with my looks but these lip brushes can come in handy even for folks like me. As for experienced lip artists, these will be a god sent.
