New Sephora Website Launches

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Happy Belated Fat Tuesday! Hope it was filled with debauchery! Now you have behave yourself for the rest of the Lenten season which means you shouldn’t browsing the new Sephora website. But you not that won’t stop you. In the wee hours of the morning sephora.com was revised and a new design of the website was launched.

I actually appreciate that Sephora didn’t get to creative with the new website design. It actually looks a lot like the original one but they changed up their menu bar a little bit and they also created a larger banner area displaying newly trending items. Since the banner is larger you have to scroll a bit to get to the bottom of the page which may or may not be annoying.

Aside from this I don’t see much else that’s new. I think the change is long overdue as the site has been the same design for nearly 7 years or so now. But as I said it is nice they didn’t do a dramatic change. I think if they did it completely over people would get irritated. I think we’re somehow conditioned to hate major changes sometimes 🙂

What do you think of the new site so far?

I haven’t formed an opinion yet. So far, the front page looks ok to me. I don’t embrace change too well so, I’m happy with what I see so far.

Do share your opinion!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. It doesn’t work on my computer ): I hope I won’t be forced to use Internet Explorer to use it!

    • Isabella Muse

likewise! I couldn’t get to brand sites until I opened it in IE. UGH!

  • Emily

It’s working for me on my chrome browser on my work computer, but verrrrrrry slowly (like, I give up). I hope they get that fixed soon. I agree it looks attractive and not too disorientingly different, but if it doesn’t perform, then no good.

    • Isabella Muse

Likewise, also doesn’t load in firefox at all. IE it works but kind of sluggish! I’m glad they didn’t launch some annoying design like MAC. MAC’s site looked great at first launch but the more I used it the more I started to hate it.

      • Darinka DAlessio

Oh, I totally agree about MAC. it is virtually unusable in it’s current state!

  • AnniLau

I’m using Chrome at it seems to mostly work. However, when I click Brands A-Z, it just reloads the front page.

    • Isabella Muse

little sluggish in chrome for me so far. Hope they fix it!

    • MM Curator

Yup, I’m in Firefox and the Brands A-Z just keeps taking me to the home page. Other than though I think it looks good.

  • Jane

The brands A-Z link doesn’t work at all. And since I only ever use my iPad to access and am usually nursing and using my iPad one-handed, it’s super annoying they moved the “Brands” link to the left side.

Otherwise it doesn’t make me irate. Nicely done.

    • kjh

Exactly. You have to type in the brand, not select it. I’ve only tried it on the iPad. It’d be worse on my dinosaur Mac that needs replacing. I noticed that the new format showcases the Sephora umbrella brands on the home page. Generally, it is not being well received, and it is not enticing me at all. Plus, Sephora does a fairly poor job on the ingredients lists, which is of paramount importance to me, due to a gazillion allergies and sensitivities.

So far it’s not bad but it bugs me that the sale page isn’t easily accessible from the top menu anymore. I’m the type to always throw a few sale items in my bag before finishing a purchase but honestly the extra steps required might dissuade me now.

  • Deb

Not working for me either. I only use my iPad and when I click on a product I just get a blank page. Good job Sephora.

  • Heidi

I’m not happy so far. It’s loading really slowly, if at all. On Firefox it’s awful, but better on Safari. I’m guessing they’re working some bugs out, so I’m going to stay away for a bit. If it doesn’t improve, though, I won’t renew my Flash free shipping and then I can save some money!

  • Heather

I had no issue on IE. I like the new website. Much more polished and modern looking and the links are well placed and intuitive.

    • Heather

I spoke too soon. It wasn’t loading today. Very frustrating. I’m sure they are losing a lot of sales!

  • Sarah Hirji

It’s not working on safari at all – doesn’t even load!
In chrome it’s super slow 🙁 so sad
Also I couldn’t find where the deals/promos were which was super annoying.

  • Kimmwc03

I’m having some of the sluggishness that everyone else is reporting. It’s also harder to find sales and promos now. Hope they work out the kinks.

  • Joan Andruszkewicz

I e-mailed Sephora to tell them their new site is messed up. I don’t have I.E., so they better correct the issues. I remember the same thing happening the last time they made changes to the site. If it ain’t broke, why fix it!

    • Tam

YES!! I use IE and it’s sooo slow I can’t even scroll and don’t get me started on finding a brand. Type it in…what kind of crap is that? Should be user friendly. Whoever did the redesign needs to be fired. They’ll be losing so much business. I was ready to place a $400+ order but can’t even finish the order. WOW!

  • Rachael

400 Bad Request every.time. on my iPad. I’ve tried restarting it & nothing. The site just won’t work for me.

  • Penny

I don’t really shop at Sephora, but I still get an email from them at least once a week…LOL. Bare Minerals just launched a new website and I am really enjoying it. Very easy to use interface with much larger product pictures. 🙂 Nice and sleek and looks much better than their old site!

    • Betty

Bare Minerals one is a really good improvement. Much easier to navigate and faster.

    • Rachael

But Bareminerals removed the wish list feature from their site.

  • Lydia

So far it’s loading just fine for me, but I really dislike that they changed the “brands” tab. I love that they had it alphabetically listed, and it was so user friendly. Now they just have “new” and “featured” brands, and for the life of my I can’t access a full list of brands like I could before. Chances are if they don’t make any changes, I’ll just start shopping on Ulta more. They have better rewards anyways lol.

  • Brandy

That’s so funny. I was on their website tonight on my IPhone and didn’t even notice they changed it. I did notice it was a little slower though.

  • barbara

it is not working for me on my desktop or ipad. if it stays like this I wont be shopping Sephora, lol which may be a good thing. but very aggravating as there was nothing wrong with the old site.

    • Kristina

I have been visiting Ultra more because Sephora’s website SUCKS now. They have GOT to be losing sales over this. Getting to fancy can hinder a website’s performance – I know this because I used to design webpages. Love Sephora and the products they offer but if they don’t have a functioning website, people will go elsewhere (like me).

  • Jackie

14 days later and I’m still having nothing but problems with this site. It looks nice enough but I also miss that I have to search to find a list of brands. I’ve given up and only use the app on my phone.

  • denise

Still hating the new website!! They have made it SO hard to find anything. The search feature doesn’t work well at all and lots of the links are broken and send you to the wrong page. The missing alphabetical brand list is the worst issue of all. If they don’t add it back I will probably just quit shopping at Sephora online. What a horrible roll-out of an unfinished web product!

  • Kristina

One words describes my feeling on it: TERRIBLE! How can a business of this caliber launch a website that hasn’t (obviously) been tested? It’s slow, doesn’t fully load pages, locks up, links are broken, and items are hard to find. I used to work in web development several years ago and one of the fundamentals of web design is to thoroughly TEST in a beta version. They evidently did not do this. I’m sure that they are losing a lot of business. I have no patience with the new site and therefore am instead purchasing from Ulta or Nordstrom.com.

  • Kim

It is hands down the worst website ever! I end up buying elsewhere even though I have Rouge benefits.
