Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover Lip Oil Stick Review

Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover Lip Oil Stick ($15) ensures I’ll never to resort to using my reapplication makeup hack for long-wearing lipstick throughout the day. I actually dislike long-wearing lipstick because it’s a pain to remove and touch up through the day. Once you apply it, it’s pretty much bulletproof and it’s not going anywhere until you remove it with an oil-based makeup remover of some sort. I typically resort to saturating a cotton pad with micellar water, sticking it in a little ziploc bag, and carrying it around with me so, I can remove my lipstick and reapply it fresh throughout the day.

But Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover Lip Oil Stick is a WAY easier way of doing things.

Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover Lip Oil Stick is a simple slimline lip oil that removes long-wearing liquid lipstick quickly and easily without drying out lips. Swivel it up, swipe it over your lips a few times, and wipe off your lipstick with a tissue.

Done!

Pretty nifty right?

This has an easy glide across lips with a light cotton flavor and fragrance. It has a very light oily consistency with a slick formula and a shiny finish. The oil-based formula helps to break down waterproof liquid lipstick very easily. It’s pretty much mess-free as well. It doesn’t mess up your lipstick or create a glorious mess around your mouth. If nothing at all it’s almost as if you’re applying lip balm right on top of your lipstick. After it applied you can simply wipe off your lipstick easily. It does leave a bit of residue behind but you can go back in and reapply to remove any excess color that’s left over. The formula is nicely hydrating and leave lips soft, hydrated, and ready for reapplication should you like. After using it I would suggest wiping the tip off gently with a tissue to get off any color left behind from application. For sensitive users, it does have a light coconut flavor and fragrance that’s barely noticeable.

I loved it.

But….

I think it’s a product best suited for touch ups when traveling. You want to keep this in your makeup bag to use throughout the day to either remove your lipstick completely or to reapply it. I think it’s way too small (0.06 oz) to use daily to remove lipstick at the end of the day. You can go through this fairly fast if you’re using it every single day to remove your lipstick. I love how well it works, I just wish it was a touch bigger so, I can use it in my nightly routine to remove my liquid lipstick.

Keep in mind, this was created with long-wearing liquid lipstick in mind. It’ll work well to remove that formula but if you’re trying to use it with a regular old lipstick it’ll just crease a mess so, stick to using it with your hardest to remove lipstick.

All in all, Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover Lip Oil Stick couldn’t release at a better time. Long-wearing lipsticks have become a industry formula standard! I think the trend has pasted and liquid lipstick is just a permanently popular formula for makeup lovers everywhere. And even though, the makeup world is filled with a ton of different formulas and finishes of the lipstick, it’s sadly lacking in ways to easily remove them. This little stick offers a easy, mess-free way to quickly remove your longest, strongest wearing lipstick quickly for touch ups or reapplication. I do wish it was bigger but there’s absolutely no fault with the fab formula here!

So my “hack” is to just apply a moisturizing lip gloss on top, wait a couple minutes, then wipe off. Works every time! I wonder if any of the regular lip oils you’ve reviewed (Milani, etc.) would do the same thing?

    • Isabella Muse

going to try that! I actually use micellar water or sometimes I smear on vaseline, let it sit, and wipe off! 😀 I’m going to try a lip oil, see what happens 😀 I don’t wanna waste precious lip gloss on it but I’ll try lip oil because I have WAY too many 😀

I just use lip gloss cuz I always have about 40 in the bottom of my purse . While I am also guilty of lip gloss hording, I probably have enough for 7 lifetimes…

        • Isabella Muse

lol! I know the feeling well! I have a lot too YET I STILL hoard them and use them like they are being discontinued!

As someone who wears liquid lipstick 90% of the time, I think there is absolutely a market for this. I just don’t like UD prices for essentials like this. I’ll gladly spend $20 on the most amazeballs single eyeshadow, but not for a stick of oil. I bought a J.Cat brand liquid lipstick remover tube for like $4 at Ulta – that makes more sense to me

    • Isabella Muse

Agreed because I think the market is lacking a little for removal yet saturated with many long-wearing lipstick formula just not enough ways to remove them. LOL I know waht you mean totally 😀 I didn’t know J Cat made one gotta check that out!

Elf also has one that works well! No better than just using oil, but for those who prefer a targeted product it’s a much more budget friendly option!

I still haven’t warmed to those long-wearing liquid lipsticks. I find just about all of them drying and they tend to feel plasticky on me. But if I do wear one I just use one of the 10 million chapsticks or lip balms and put that over it and wait a minute or two. Takes it right off.

I still prefer plain old satiny lipsticks or tinted lip balms, however. If I don’t have time for touchups I just stow a tinted balm or a pinky nudge lipstick in my purse or pocket and reapply throughout the day. It’s a tiny little moment of glamour and pampering which makes me happy.

likewise, I’m not a fan of longwearing lipstick at all! I try to get on board and some are ok, like Stila’s formula, but mostly I prefer regular old lipstick or lipgloss thanks so much ;D

ooooh so excited you are reviewing the UD makeup remover products!
I will skip on this because i already use a tub of clinique makeup remover balm for my tough to remove lipsticks…but…..I’m always looking for a new makeup remover that removes EVERYTHING in one step.

will you be reviewing the makeup remover spray and oil stick as well?
my biggest questions about the Meltdown Makeup Remover Dissolving Spray is…does it leave your skin feeling tight or dry?

that’s my only concern. I am currently running out of my beloved Lancome Energie de Vie Cleansing Oil and that baby removes EVERYTHING in one wash and leaves my skin feeling clean but comfortable. (neither dry and tight nor greasy and sticky)
it is really perfection in a bottle, but the price tag is up there. I don’t mind spending the money on it, but if there’s a dupe or more affordable like it, i’ll try it!

This is a really good idea but $15 seems pricey. I save my liquid lipsticks for nights out because they are drying, and I don’t want chunks of lipstick dangling off my lips at work.

This didn’t work for me. I bought it with my 20% off at Ulta plus there was 5x points on Urban Decay so I wanted to try it. Yesterday I wore a Too Faced Melted Matte liquid lipstick with UD Ultimate Ozone underneath (my HG lip primer), and MAC lipliner. I’m a devotee of matte, long-wearing lipsticks, I like wearing lipsticks that don’t move. For like 16 hours or something. I wear a lot of bright colors and I just can’t stand it if they smear or get messy. I usually get them off with Olay wipes, but I found that one swipe of this did nothing. Tried again and more nothing. It only made me rub my lips harder and that hurt. Wound up using an Olay wipe to get it off. Normally I’d return it but since I got the 5x points I will lose more $$ than I paid if I do that, so I’ll keep it. Might just use it for MAC Amplified lipsticks or lipsticks that have a lot of slip and you don’t need a lot of effort to take them off.
