I’ve been trying to add a few flattering shades of matte eyeshadow to my collection and my search led me to Holika Holika Piece Matching Shadow Matte Eyeshadow. You see, I’m starting to run low on a beloved matte shade I own from Colourpop which is long gone but will never be forgotten by yours truly. I’ve been trying to find similiar shades so, I decided I’d turn to Asian brands. Why? Because many Asian brands create single matte eyeshadows that are very flattering shades that work well with my skin tone. The shades seem like ones I can’t find from the US brands for some reason as most of the warmer mattes I want always seem to be darker browns or tans.

I can’t always find the perfect dune or burnt orange or sienna tones I want from Korean brands.

MBR01 is such a shade.

I was actually going to head into a purchase of Etude House’s Jelly Look At My Eyes singles but I skimmed over them and settled on Holika Holika Piece Matching Shadow Matte. I only ordered a single shade as I never tried this formula before and didn’t know what to expect but I’ll likely head in for a few more in a future purchase.

This is a simple clear compact and the shadow has an imprint of a puzzle piece. I paid like $4 bucks for this which is a complete bargain as I really liked the shade. The formula is a little dense but a sponge eyeshadow applicator picks up and applies color very easily. I loved, loved the shade! It’s a burn sienna that looks quite nice on my big brown eyes.

I’ve always been about shimmer eyeshadows and if you asked me 10 years ago if I’d be interested in hauling and collecting flattering mattes I’d probably have called you crazy. But as I get older I really like the simplicity of a good matte eyeshadow. I can apply this with a ton of mascara and instantly look fabulous without having to deal with a ton of sparkly fall out clean up.

Needless to say I’ll be ordering more! If you’re looking for a no nonsense matte that looks great and won’t cost a fortune these little Holika Holika Piece Matching Shadow Matte are fab.

I got mine on ebay.com.

I’m loving Korean eye shadows lately. Even though they’re not as pigmented, the undertones seem more flattering on my skin tone (probably because I’m actually Asian, LOL).

Sorry, that was “sponge.” Sponge applicator or brushes best with this?

Lovely. If this were a US product, with the puzzle piece, you’d swear it was an autism spectrum benefit! Lol.

Oh, must order some. Holika Holika used to have some shops/counters here but they pulled out a couple years ago but it’s still easy to get them shipped from Korea.

I’m also buying more mattes these days! Shimmers are more eye-catching to me, but I find it easier to create dimension with mattes.

I love matte/shimmer combo. Somehow a matte wash makes shimmer look so much nicer 😀
