An Introduction to Ganache Parfums
Ganache Parfums is a niche line of fragrances created by Jarekhye Covarrubias of Haught Parfums. Ganache Parfums speaks to me on many levels because I am a complete and utter gourmand fragrance lover. Give me a fragrance that smells like apple pie or cake and I’ll go on my way very happily. I can stand in line at the grocery store and have someone lean in to ask me what I’m wearing or even have someone around me say, with some puzzlement in their tone, “Do you smell cake?! I smell cake!” You know your fragrance is provoking all sorts of emotions when people suddenly become hungry around you. Jarekhye created the line with this exact idea in mind, he believes that a gourmand fragrance can create a certain feeling of comfort not to mention it can be a great conversation starter. And truly, his concept rings so true.
I’m the Muse and I like delicious perfumes and Ganache Parfums fills my sweet tooth perfectly.
Fragrantica recently did an article on the new Ganache Summer Collection and I finally decided, after reading many reviews and seeing many videos, that I needed to indulge in a few fragrances from the line. There’s a wonderful Summer sampler set that’s $20 with Free Shipping (or $35 for International residents). The set includes all the Summer scents in little sampler mists bottles. The scents include Summer Sangria, Tropical Iced Tea, Pineapple Daiquiri, Sugar Honey Iced Tea, Gin fizz, and Mango Mojito. I also got full-size bottles of Joe, Ice Cream Shoppe, and Bananas Foster.
Jarekhye’s packages up his potions in pink boxes that will remind you of going to the bakery to pick up a cake and having them slip that delicious slice of heaven into a pink box and twirl white and red stripped twine around the box. When I slid the box open I expected to find a cupcake inside! His bottles are simple clear glass squares with silver toppers that hold 1.7 oz of perfume which are an affordable $55 each (or less as he has a great coupon at the moment that gets you bottles for $35 each! Use code $ummer17.).
Along with the sampler set I also purchased full-size bottles of Joe, Ice Cream Shoppe, and Banana Foster.
I happen to be insanely obsessed with true coffee fragrances. I don’t drink coffee aside from the rare iced macchiato but I absolutely love the scent of coffee. If you’re not wanting to smell like Starbucks best avoid the fragrance Joe which I loved but I do realize it won’t be to everyone’s liking. This is a stunning evocation of walking into a coffee shop. It contains notes of coffee bean, coffee accord, and espresso accord. These notes create a strong bitter coffee fragrance that’s sweetened by vanilla which gives that just splashed cold milk into a hot cup of coffee vibe followed by maple sugar, amber, and sandalwood. There’s so much warmth and beauty to this scent that only becomes even more gorgeous through the wear. The sillage is amazing and the wear quite long. It seems to become stronger as your body chemistry gets higher. It’s a perfect coffee scent and one I’d definitely purchase again.
Ice Cream Shoppe is a truer gourmand due to the benzoin, amber, and musk notes which give it an incense-like finish. At first mist this scent is like stepping onto a 60’s ice cream parlor with a warm waffle cone note that hits you in the face hard. It’s so warming and dare I say crunchy! The layers that Jarekhye achieves with his fragrances are magical because almost immediately after the waffle cone note you’ll get a sweet creamy vanilla followed by a hot sizzle of caramel. It’s like you can taste the ice cream cone in your mouth. Truly it’s a special experience. It settles down very quickly though and many of the foodie notes are taken over by more complex notes of amber and musk that give this scent a very, very sexy finish. If the idea of smelling like an ice cream parlor scare you, fear not, the amber and musk add warmth and sensuality to the final finish.
Banana Foster has a lot of the same aspects as Ice Cream Shoppe in the fact it goes incense-y on my skin. This starts out with a big burst of sweet banana followed by warm caramel, rum, cinnamon, and vanilla. Apparently, there are some floral notes here which might be where I get the incense from. It smells like a perfume oil from BPAL was combined with the gourmand notes from this fragrance which gives it an earthy vibrancy which morphs the scent with a sensual heated element that’s difficult to explain.
Needless to say I was very happy with my purchases and I’m already concocting my next order. I haven’t yet tried the Summer fragrances as of yet but I’ll review those in another post should you like to hear about them.
If you’re a fond fan of foodie, gourmand scents you’ll be very, very happy with Ganache Parfums.
