I don’t really need more moisture at the moment since it is Summer but I purchased Olay Age Defying Advanced with Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Gel Cream Moisturizer because it was too tempting to resist as a dry skin girl who’s always looking for a way to hydrate.

Lately, the drugstore has been flooded with Hyaluronic Acid everything. Neutrogena released a Hydro Boost Skincare and Makeup Collection earlier this Spring but I wasn’t terribly impressed with the skincare aspect of the release. But I’m always interested in checking out new drugstore skincare that does have the ingredient which led me to the purchase of this new Olay Age Defying Advanced with Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Gel Cream Moisturizer. And also, tis the season for gel moisturizers! They are always so great in the Summer as they are hydrating, lightweight, and wear well over SPF.

Olay Age Defying Advanced with Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Gel Cream Moisturizer is available in two formulas one of which is for dry skin and the other for normal. I picked up the dry skin formula but actually the normal one would have been a better option for the season as this is quite a rich, hydrating formula.

Olay delivers this your way in a heavy plastic jar which is 1.7 oz in size ($16.99-$19.99 depending where you buy). This is one of the areas it fails. Most people prefer a tube versus sticking their fingers in a jar but sadly, it’s a fact we’ve all had to come to terms with in the skincare world. Another area it failed was the fact it is heavily fragrance. It has a fresh floral scent that I found pleasant but sensitive users won’t love the fact it contains so much fragrance.

Aside from these two issues the formula itself is quite lovely. This is a lightweight, creamy gel that absorbs easily into skin. It left my skin quite smooth, soft, and well hydrated without producing any shine or slick greasiness on my skin. It’s a water-based formula so it does break down almost instantly when applied to skin and absorbs in a flash. It contains quite a good deal of good ingredients such as niacinamide that will brighten and address uneven skin tone as well as Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate and help retain moisture. It does sadly, have silicone so, if that doesn’t agree with your skin you might wish to avoid this. There is alcohol here but not a harmful, drying kind.

I was pretty happy overall, with this one. My skin felt nice a plush after using it and it wears well under makeup. Not to mention it doesn’t contain the host of drying alcohols that many gel moisturizers have.

If you don’t mind the packaging and fragrance, Olay Age Defying Advanced with Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Gel Cream Moisturizer is worth checking out especially if you’re looking for a budget-friendly moisturizer that absorbs in a snap and leaves parched skin nicely hydrated.

I’ve been looking for this at Ulta and Target but no luck yet. So glad to hear this worked well for you because that means it more than likely will for me! I found their new eye cream and really like it.

**grumble** this might have been a winner for me were it not for the FRAGRANCE!!! I can’t believe in this day and age that companies still ladle perfume into skin care. It does nothing beneficial, and most of the time stings my skin. GAH!!! Maybe if there’s a big campaign to have a sensitive version they might do that… several years ago Olay changed the Complete SPF 30 Sensitive formula to an avobenzene formula and the interwebs blew up!! There was a huge BAD reaction from devotees of the original mineral formula to the point that Olay changed it back!!

If we could just get them to stop scenting the beejeezus out of everything, it would be a better world! 😀

I was wondering how this would work out. I like the Olay products, but have been recently using the Neutrogena hydro-boost moisturizer. So I will probably give this one a try

Could you recommend a similar product that isn’t scented? Thanks!

EVERY single gel moisturizer I ever tried it scented heavily. 🙁 The only I’ve come across that isn’t is Simple Gel Moisturizer but that isn’t as hydrating as this formula!

Being in the pool five days a week with aqua fit, I was hoping to replace my Hydra Genius, which I use for quick hydration after showering. Disappointed that this one is not unscented. When are skin companies going to stop adding questionable fragrances to new products?. ***Side-eye to L’Oreal Hydra Genius** I cannot stand that smell! Any suggestions for an unscented hydrating gel moisturizer.

I wish! All of them are heavily scented including Korean ones. Simple has a gel moisturizer but it isn’t as intensely hydrating as this. It is unscented 🙂

Drat! OK…thanks! I think that I am going to hit up The Body Shop and try the Oils of Life Revitalizing Gel Cream. I got the Essence and some other products last year based on one of your reviews, and I really liked them (then I discovered Tatcha and OY VAY!) So, I’m going to use the Oils of Life for my post-pool regimen. Cheers!

aw sorry! The TBS one has fragrance too sadly. I’m glad you liked them though 😀 Ha Tatcha will kill your wallet but man, they have such great stuff 😀

The one for normal skin is a blue gel, not the white like shown here. I haven’t tried it yet, I just bought it today!
