Buxom Metalix Lip Glide ($22) is a new, limited edition metallic lipstick that launched for the Holiday 2017 season in four shade selections. Ironically they market these as a rich lip color with a “little” metallic shimmer but they actually have a gorgeous burst of lovely shimmer that give this finish the look of liquid metal.

I’ve always chronically complained about metallic lipsticks and eyeshadows. I love the finish in theory but don’t really like how it looks on me. I feel like Mr Roboto whenever I wear it on my lips but sometimes I come across a fantastic product like Boxum Metalix Lip Glide that actually makes the finish very, very wearable.

Let’s take a look at my review and swatches below.

Buxom Metalix Lip Glide comes housed in a simple chic black barrel that holds 0.09 oz of lipstick. I’m sad to say these are available in merely four shades and I’m even sadder to say they are around for a limited time.

The formula is gorgeous. The texture has an easy glide on lips with a thin, slick consistency that hugs lips in gorgeous, bold color on a single swipe. I choose the shade Ruby Luster and it’s loaded with fine gold shimmer with a shiny finish. The shimmer doesn’t give the lipstick formula a gritty feel in the least and the texture has a comfortable, easy slide on lips with even, smooth coverage that doesn’t adhere to drier areas. The shimmer combined with shininess of the color gives the completed look a liquid metal finish that’s much more outstanding in person than my photos give it credit for. If you really want to go over the top with it adding a little clear gloss on top really gives a popping finish!

I was beyond happy with the formula on this lipstick not to mention the comfortable wear, easy application, and outstanding pigmentation. I detected on fragrance or flavor and the color wore for a solid six hours without migration or feathering although, it did leave behind traces of gold glimmer as it faded away and once I wiped it off.

All in all, Buxom did a fabulous job with Metalix Lip Glide! I’m looking forward to purchasing and trying other shades. They should consider making these permanent but I do understand that the metallic lip trend is likely a passing phase. But for now these are the best metallic lipsticks I’ve run across since the trend started.

Great on you! Metallic lips may not be as passing as you think. Look how long highlighter, contour, matte and nude lips have hung on, long after we would have thought the train left the station.

Love it! Now im even more excited. I ordered the starry rose and pink luminatti soon as they popped up on sephora. Starry rose is arriving tomorrow but they canceled my order for pink and said it was out of stock but I went back on and reordered it no problem. Now I think i need the ruby luster! It looks stunning on you. I might even get the violet after seeing how pretty but depends how dark as vampy isn’t always a look I can pull off. Are you grabbing any other shades

    • Isabella Muse

Yay! Glad you got some of these! thank you! I really liked the shade, it isn’t the ruby shade they claim though, more coppery 😀 I def need more!

Time for me to pull out good ol’ Wet and Wild Cherry Frost it seems, since I can’t think of any older variations of metallic frost finishes in bright red.
