Rimmel Lasting Finish 25HR Breathable Foundation ($6.99) is a new lightweight foundation that launched in the UK earlier last year and is now making its way to the US for Spring 2018. I’m pretty excited to see all these new lightweight, fluid drugstore foundations that are launching! I really liked Almay Best Blend Forever Makeup and so far, Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation is turning into a hit for me as well. This is saying something as I am a snob when it comes to foundation and concealers as I’m of the utter belief they are both splurge items.

I’ve always been a less is more kind of girl with foundation. I really like fluid ones since they tend to offer sheerer coverage that’s very lightweight and natural looking. I also tend to navigate towards foundations that aren’t terribly pigmented as I already have fairly good skin and only need coverage that will ease dullness and brighten my skin up while evening out my tone versus one that’s pigmented to hide redness, blemishes, or other imperfections.

I do think Rimmel’s 25 hour wear claim is ridiculous. I don’t think there’s every been a case where I needed to wear my makeup for 25 straight hours even during long travel or late nights that seems absolutely unnecessary. Not to mention, it doesn’t last that long anyway so, even if I wanted it to last that long it won’t. Come on guys, it’s 2018, let’s get off the long-wearing train. All aboard the reality express! I’d be more inclined to purchased if they promised that my foundation will last me for at least eight hours. I’m actually cool with that. 8 hours is plenty.

None the less, rant aside about the “alleged” long wear let’s chat formula.

As I said I’m quite happy to see the drugstore is being flooded with lightweight, weightless coverage for Spring. I hope the mid and high-end world catches up to the trend as thus far I’m seeing a lot of matte everything in that arena. It doesn’t technically have to be warmer weather for me to enjoy a light, sheer foundation as I just like this type of formula in general but as we do head into the warmer weather (even though it feels far off) this is a nice little base to have around.

Rimmel has introduced this formula in 16 shades and each glass bottle is 1 oz in size. Love, love the fact they go with an overlarge sponge applicator for application like the packaging we got with Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint last year and the soon to be released Tarte Shape Tape Foundation. I like the fact I can dot or swipe this on quickly since I tend to use my fingers to blend this is easy application at its finest. No messy pouring, no need for sponges, just dab it on with the sponge applicator and either blend with your fingers, a sponge, or a brush.

The consistency is beautiful. It’s a light fluid that isn’t runny or thin that sets to a smooth, satiny finish. I had no problems blending it out and it didn’t cling to drier areas on my face. The coverage is seamless and had a nice smooth finish. I didn’t notice any oxidation in either shade I tried but neither was suitable for me. The display I came across at Harmons was a preview display which means all 16 shades weren’t in it. They had about eight shades and I got caught between 200 Soft Beige and 300 Sand. 200 was too light and 300 too dark which means I’ll have to check and see if I can find a middle shade when they launch all the shades. I got about six hours of wear from it before it shows very minor signs of fading around the sides of my nose.

The color pay off is actually very good. You can either wear it light and sheer or build it to almost medium coverage. It’ll conceal minor imperfections quite well but if you require super pigmented coverage this might not work for you.

I loved the light texture, liked how weightless it was, and felt it was very breathable. It didn’t brighten up my skin tone but it left my skin looking very smooth and flawless.

Overall, Rimmel Lasting Finish Breathable Foundation is quite a nice, inexpensive pick up if you like light coverage. This looks, feels, and applies quite beautifully.

If you can’t wait for this to launch at your drugstore it’s available now at asos.com.

    This sounds great!
On a side note: the Ulta near me had their entire Rimmel display on clearance and when I was there this past weekend it was completely empty. So, the question is: is Ulta not going to carry Rimmel in stores or are they just doing a re-set of the whole display. Has anyone else noticed this at their Ulta?

    • Isabella Muse

I was just checking rimmel on ulta, GONE! I guess they aren’t selling it anymore!

I love love love the applicator on this bottle!! I live in a drier climate and I noticed this tended to accentuate lines and pores… I need to try it with a hydrating primer and see if that helps. I really want to like it!! It looks so great right when I put it on haha

    • Isabella Muse

I use a hydrating primer and a good hydrating moisturizer prior application ;-D no problem with it clinging to my drier areas!

  • Carol G

Wow! That is interesting! I guess they need to make room for other brands? But why wouldn’t they sell it online still? Strange!

Hi Muse! I found a display of this foundation at Walgreens with (I believe) all 16 shades. Of course, I had to try it and I really like it too! The original 25 hour formula feels too heavy on my face, but this one feels like nothing on the skin. I completely agree with you on the “25 hour” claim – I’d be happy with an 8 hour foundation too!

    • Isabella Muse

yay so glad you enjoyed it too! I thought it was really quite lovely. Yeah, I mean 25 hours really though!? I’m cool with 8!

  • Cindy

Does it contain any fragrance or alcohol? Ethelyne brassalyate is also a fragrant additive. Please let me know as a full ingredient listing is not available on asos. Thank you.

Oooooh, sounds promising! How is the coverage compared to the Neutrogena Hydro boost? I really enjoy that formula, but I am between shades and would prefer not to have to mix. Thanks!

    • Isabella Muse

I think it actually has more coverage and it’s a little lighter and more fluid as Neotrogena’s formula is a bit creamier and sheerer 🙂

      • Cheryl

Awesome! Thank you! I like the way that the Neutrogena hydroboost foundation seems to melt right into my skin rather than sitting on top like some foundations do. Hopefully, this provides a nice natural finish along those lines with the bonus of a bit more coverage so I don’t have to build up over my red nose and cheeks

        • Isabella Muse

my pleasure <3! Hydroboost has the ore hydrating formula this is a bit but satiny for me but still natural ;-D Just be sure to prep well prior to applying! Hope you like it!!!!!!

Three new ones to try Neutrogena, Physicians Formula and Rimmel. Awesome all drugstores. Didn’t Almay had come up with one also? So many choices.

I’m having trouble finding Rimmel in stores. My Rite Aid stopped carrying it and the display at my Ulta was nearly empty (as usual). I haven’t checked CVS in a while, but the Rimmel display is normally dismal. I don’t like scavenger hunts for my makeup. Lol.
