These New Real Techniques Remind Me of Unicorns and I Don’t Mind

The new Real Techniques Brush Crush Collection that includes the Brush Crush Shimmer & Shine Set and Brush Crush Luminous Glow Set remind me of magic, rainbows, and unicorns and I don’t find myself minding in the least.

Shocked? I know me too because I am such a unicorn hater lately aren’t I?

Me:

DEATH TO ALL UNICORNS!

But let the new Real Technique Brushes pass….

Ok, so it is annoying they created these for Instagram and of course unicorns. Mental eye roll.

Insert Anderson Cooper here:

That’s exactly what the description says although you’ll find some comfort in the fact they don’t mention unicorns directly: “Brush Crush is engineered for performance, but designed to be instagrammable. Like your latest lipstick shade this crush isn’t here to stay! This Limited Edition Collection is designed with Sam + Nic and inspired by the latest holographic, pastel, and glitter trends. #BrushCrush.”

Regardless, Real Techniques hasn’t failed me yet and I’m actually quite liking the looks of the glittery purple and pink handles. See? I’m not as grumpy as you suspected.

There are several single brushes to choose from that range in price from $10 bucks to $17 and two brush sets which are $30 each. The individual brushes are on sale right now at Ulta.com for Buy 1, Get 1 50% Off. It feels like their prices have gone up considerably over the years but they do consistently put out very good brushes so, I won’t rant too much about the price.

Don’t say that! I majored in Medieval History/Art and I adore unicorns. Just not in my makeup.

I don’t mind these as much because they are “pretty” to look at. I know taste is subjective, but these are done tastefully, for lack of a better word. It’s a subtle nod to the unicorn trend, while still keeping to the classic Real Techniques brush and handle shape. Unlike Tarte’s (nothing wrong with those, by the way), there isn’t a spiral handle or a rainbow of colours meant to mimic a magical unicorn’s horn. The brand could easily replace the pink and purple colors for deep navy and blue with gold ferules, and it’ll look like a luxe holiday release, which I think they’ve done before.

That being said, I still probably wouldn’t buy these. Haha! I don’t instagram my makeup, and my vanity/room is more of a gold, black, and white theme, so pastels on display would look out of place. I don’t actually strategically choose things that’ll look nice on my vanity, but everything just ended up pairing well coincidentally. 🙂

I am completely agree 200%! They are quite cute and there is a nod to unicorns but thank god they didn’t rub it all in our faces ;-D

I said I wouldn’t buy them, but watch I’ll be the first to grab them off the shelf if I see a display in store. Haha! I only own two brushes from Real Techniques, but there are a couple of brushes that I’ve been meaning to try that are in these sets. LOL!

These look so pretty. I need more brushes like a hole in the head. I just received from Ulta the new Eco tools 8 brush set for $20. And I had 20 percent off coupon. I love Ecotools brushes.

If it weren’t for the total unicorn magical madness, these would be adorable and refreshing…a spring release. They’re are fine. There is no direct tie in with the horned horses! Quite pretty, and RT is pretty reliable. Not a bad addition, and the color difference makes them easy to grab. Go for it!

You’re right! If it wasn’t for the unicorn stuff I’d totally be like “WOW what a cute spring launch!”

  • Heather

I admit I bought these. I think they are super pretty. I’m not into the unicorn trend at all.

BTW I LOL at your Legend reference. That just might be the only movie I like that has Tom Cruise in it.

I got these a few weeks ago when Ulta had a buy 2 get 1 free sale on RT. I got the powder, blush and foundation brushes. Love the foundation brush, I hoped for something a little more full out of the powder brush, and I’ve been using the blush brush for highlighter, but there’s something loose in the ferrule and it rattles when I use it. It drives me NUTS. I’m waiting for them to be available in stores so I can exchange it. I do really enjoy the brush for highlighter though. They’re freaking gorgeous in person.

I actually really love these brushes, i think they’re so cute, but, unfortunately, didn’t get my hands on some 🙁 xoxo
