I actually passed over ordering these when they launched exclusively on Covergirl’s website because I dislike metallic lipsticks but recently I came across the display at Target and fell in love with the shade Mayhem.
Covergirl Melting Pout Metallic Liquid Lipstick are pretty much the brand’s version of Too Faced Melted Metal Liquified Lipstick but the formula is actually superior in my opinion. I’ll tell you why shortly.
These arrive in a 0.30 oz squeeze tube that has an attached slanted sponge applicator for application. Simply squeeze the tube, color flows into the applicator tip, and apply to your lips. The applicator is a bit smaller than the one found on Too Faced’s version but it fit the contour of my lips naturally and I was able to apply color easily and mess-free.
As I said above (and in many past posts) I’m not a huge fan of metallic lipsticks or glosses. They tend to make me look like a robot. But this is actually a great metallic. It isn’t overly reflective nor is it terribly shimmer but it still has that metallic glint that gives it a nice pop.
The formula is much like Too Faced’s but it applies way nicer. It’s thin yet creamy with a smooth finish that didn’t creep into my natural lip lines nor did the color migrate of feather once I applied it. I have drier lips as I you know but the color remained quite smooth and even. I didn’t detect a flavor or fragrance.
I think Too Faced’s version of these is a little heavier with a lot more shimmer that gives it a frosty appearance. The formula also applies a little streaky and patchy on certain shades. Covergirl’s formula feels much creamier and smoother with just the right metallic sheen without looking frosty or too shimmery.
All in all, I’m quite glad I purchased one of these and may go back for more!
