Maybelline Burgundy Bar Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Maybelline Burgundy Bar Eyeshadow Palette ($9.99) is one of the best eyeshadow palettes I’ve ever used from the brand. I am in love with this formula, these shades, this price, everything about this palette is spot on.

They did a truly wonderful job with this and I have hopes that in the future when releasing larger palettes like this they do more of the same. If I experienced this sort of formula with Maybelline The Blushed Nudes Eyeshadow Palette, the 24K Nudes Eyeshadow Palette, and many, many of the other 12 pan eyeshadow palettes they’ve launched over the years I’d be a happy, happy girl. I was thinking about it and I love the shades in the Blush Nudes Palette but the quality was really lacking. If they did a new version with the formula on par with the Burgundy Bar Eyeshadow Palette I’d probably buy backups!

I just can’t believe what a great job they did with this palette and I can’t understand why we’ve gotten so many flaky, horribly formulated 12 pan eyeshadow palettes from Maybelline over the years that are no where near this quality!

Needless to say the Maybelline Burgundy Bar Eyeshaodw Palette is a keeper.

The Maybelline Burgundy Bar Eyeshadow Palette got a European release some months ago but recently it became available at amazon.com and sadly, is now sold out but you can hunt it out at feelunique.com or ebay.com if you can’t wait for that restock.

This was an odd release and would likely have garnered much more attention if it was Fall 2018 launch. The colors just scream autumn to me but none the less, it’s already a viral sensation. Although, I do hope that this will get a wider launch as thus far it has only popped up on Amazon. I’m hopeful we’ll see it at more drugstores soon. I do know that Walmart Canada is carrying it which means Walmart US will likely get it soon as well.

This is Maybelline’s standard 12-pan eyeshadow palette that comes housed in a plastic compact. It’s the same design that’ve used for countless palettes that have released over the years since the introduction of the Maybelline the Nudes Eyeshadow Palette that launched back in 2014 that started the chain of these palettes. The total weigt of the palette is 0.33 oz compared to the typical 0.34 oz sizes in the line already. The palette is $9.99. As with past palettes there’s a get the look guide on the back that breaks down the sides in quads, trios, and duos to create a variety of looks using these shades. And of course, there’s a double-ended eyeshadow brush which was the only item I didn’t like as it’s a bit too small for application.

As you can see most everything is the same as past releases in this range but there are two major differences one of which is the fact the palette is Made in Italy where as the others I own are Made in the US. This does add quality to the overall formula and texture of the shadows. They are soft, buttery, and blend oh so easily on my lids. I wouldn’t call them a slurry texture but they are soft and creamy with plenty of lovely shimmer but nothing frosty. There is fall out during application but the pigmentation and application was supberb overall. Don’t get me wrong, Maybelline has created some nice eyeshadow formulas over the years! Many I’ve raved but as far as the long line of 12-pan eyeshadow palettes they have released over the years I must admit to always expressing constant disappointment as the formula has always been awful. The Burgundy Bar redeems so much of that. The quality is just really, really good hear. The shades blend together well the colors are at harmony with each other and the texture of the shadow is a pleasure to use. As I said, I did experience some shimmery fall put but all in all I simply can’t stop using this palette. I was able to create so many looks using it as I tested it and was terribly impressed with each look I created.

I love it. And I hope in the future Maybelline takes note of the great reviews and feedback and releases more palettes with a formula like this one.

Maybelline The Burgundy Bar Eyeshadow Palette gets a big Muse Approval from me.

Don’t miss this lovely palette.

Tried it already?

Do share!

Maybelline The Burgundy Bar Eyeshadow Palette is sold at amazon.com but is out of stock! Hopefully it’ll be back soon! You can however, still order it and wait for it to come back. Or feelunique.com carries it and of course, you can hunt down a deal on ebay.com.

I agree the colors of this palette most definitely scream autumn. And very similar to so many brand’s take on the “burgandy” bandwagon. But if the formula has been elevated over some of Maybelline’s past endeavor’s then bring on new palette’s. I am especially interested in the “lemonade” palette that I’ve seen teased!

  • Carol

I did get this a couple of days ago, although I haven’t used it yet. But yes, this is like night and day from their other palettes. Perhaps they listened to all the horrible reviews of their past palettes and decided to get their act together. Because even the Lemonade palette is half-way decent compared to their nude ones they did a few years back. I agree with you: hopefully Maybelline will continue to use this formula because if they do, they will have cornered the market on drugstore palettes for sure. I knew you would like this once you got your hands on it. When I swatched it, I thought of you. The texture is truly outstanding and the colors are to die for. Especially for us shimmer-loving girls! (Only 2 mattes in the palette, hooray!) 😉

Honestly, I’m scared to say I think it was a fluke. This was a European and Canadian release. I think they might have imported it and the quality we are seeing is that of the euro-release and if we do get newer palettes that releases here first, it’ll likely be the same formula we’ve seen in the past :-/ I hope I’m wrong!!!!!

Hope so, too. Tempted. What does the palette itself, or the box say, for country of origin? Release it in the US, if I were the co, I’d try to duplicate the pigment, but prob use the base formulas in my already tooled factory. Don’t quite know what to make of this. There’s got to be some ingredients that are proscribed here that are allowed there. Otherwise, since Mayb KNOWS that the Burgundy Bar is better, why don’t they switch over to that series of formulas, rather than what they generally use in the US? Cost? Although lots of m/u is made in Italy, or Germany, that does not automatically make it better. (Though it often is, tbh/ime.)

        • Isabella Muse

it says made in Itality but it does say Maybelline Canada on the back.

I love the smaller palettes–the bronze one and the sunset one. I use them everyday, and because there are no mattes, I supplement them with my UD and Tarte palettes.

    • Isabella Muse

I’m sadly not a fan of many of them. Shadows are too frosty, too dense, too dry, or too chalky :-/

  • Adrienne

I’m glad this one turned out well. I remember some of the past review I think the biggest fail was the 24kt one. The swatches look beautiful. Now I just have to find it!

You haven’t mentioned BBB in a while. They usually have releases sooner than the drug stores. I only go when you mention them.

  • Arcy

I saw this at my local Walmart and though “ugh! Maybelline shadows…yeah, right. “. I’m going to have to eat my words. Yikes!

  • Randi MacDonald

I usually always will chose a shadow or lipstick made in Italy over USA if I have a choice. Whenever I see ” Made in Italy” on any makeup, its usually good quality.

    • Isabella Muse

agreed, anything made in Italy makeup wise is typically very good quality!

  • genevieve

OMG – who would’ve guessed that this is so good? I think the shades are beautiful and can be utilized by a number of different skin tones and complexions really well.
That’s the trouble with brands that do a lot of fails, you can’t believe it when they get something so right. Maybelline should be producing a gazillion of these to sell.
Thank you Muse for your review.

  • Mimigaga

Hey Muse, thank you so much this post! I thought of you and picked it up as soon as I saw it! I have not been paying attention to the Maybelline eyeshadows as the quality has been inconsistent as you pointed out, but this one is definitely a winner! I love the colour, pigmentation and blendability! It is a little loosely packed, but I prefer that over hard pans that has zero colour payoff.
One thing I noticed is a questionable glitter overspray on some of the shadows- it is rather subtle so I am not entirely sure as I have not used it long enough…but it seems to disappear as I am swatching. Do you notice it on yours? Check out my post on this gem too!

Thanks for your review of the Burgundy Bar! It was available on harmonfacevalue.com for a while – I called the Cosmetic Manager in the store in Manhattan , NY (in October) and he said it would not be available in the store for a while – and now in November I see it is not on their website any longer. I found it on Ebay for $11.85 from Florida and should be getting it tomorrow. I am looking forward to trying it.

    • Isabella Muse

my pleasure! It’s actually in most drugstores now but you scored a nice deal on ebay! That’s a fair price! ;-D I hope you like it! Do let me know when it arrives and how it goes for you!

      • Ava Gorelick

I will! I have not seen it in ANY drugstores here in NYC (not Duane Reade, Walgreens, Rite Aid or CVS ) and when they have it – it will be more than $9.99.

        • Isabella Muse

absolutely agreed! likely $14.99 or higher! I’ve seen it at Harmons and also, I think Target got it! But either way you got a good deal ;D

          • Ava Gorelick

Received Burgundy Bar last week and have been doing different looks daily. Love this palette – the colors are smooth, long lasting and pigmented. Some of the colors are similar to the UD Nakeds Black Cherry and the Stila Vivid and Vibrant Eye Shadow Duo in Garnet – both of which I have and love also.

          • Isabella Muse

oh my gosh yay! that’s great news Ava ;-D enjoy my dear wear in health!
