NYX Lip Lingerie Gloss ($7.50) is a new lipgloss version of Lip Lingerie that gives color with a glossy finish versus the original long-wearing matte finish.

As you may know for Spring 2018 NYX launched three finishes in the popular Lip Lingerie Collection. The original formula started out life as a long-wearing matte liquid lipstick which is now available in this gloss formula as well as a shimmer and glitter version.

I’m not a fan log long-wear lipstick nor do I like mattes so I was pretty happy to see new finishes particularly a glossy version. At a glance I have to admit these instantly reminded me of Kylie Cosmetics Gloss. In some ways, the formulas even feel a bit the same as well as the colors although, NYX’s version seems a little thinner in consistency.

I’ve already reviewed the glitter version which I disliked so when I hauled out the glosses I wasn’t expected much but was delightfully surprised how much I enjoy them however, I did have one issue.

NYX Lip Lingerie Gloss is really quite a lovely formulation. These around in a round barrel which holds 0.11 oz of product and are marked at $7.50 each but I’m sure during sales at Ulta and such you’ll be able to score them for even less. I haven’t personally seen the displays for myself but I can imagine it is going to cause a lot of confusion if they display these together as entire line is built across the same shade selection just with different finishes. Even when I stored them in my drawer I was confused which was shimmer, which glitter, and which a gloss! I couldn’t do a quick grab but had to lean in and read the label to make sure I had the correct finish I wanted. We’ve discussed how NYX seems to have so many versions of the same product under a different name. For example, at this point they must have at least 10 different long-wear liquid lipsticks they launched that all seem identical to me under a new name. In this case, it’s not so much the formulas or finishes are the same but the packaging and shades are.

Speaking of shade selections that was one of my major complaints with this collection. I think the idea of Lip Lingerie was to create a line of wearable nudes but in reality a lot of the shades offered either aren’t nude or aren’t flattering on me. For example, I picked up Butter and had some hope it would be a nice nude but in reality it’s this nude greige. None the less, the formula is incredible! I just wish the shades selection were a little more wearable for me.

The texture of the gloss is lightly creamy with an easy glide on my lips. Once applied it felt very plush and quite shiny but not sticky nor tacky. The color is opaque on a single application and anything but sheer which I loved as too many lipglosses apply with zero pigment but this applied with excellent color pay off. The glossiness was just perfect and lasted quite nice for the first 2 hours of the 5 hour wear time. I didn’t have problems with the color moving on my lips and it felt pleasantly moist. There is some sort light cherry-ish flavor and fragrance but nothing too offensive.

All in all, I love this formula but I’d love to see a bigger shade range in it. That was the only area I felt was lacking. We all know NYX does so love to launch a product in a wide variety of colors so why not expand upon this great formula and create more shades in it?

Euro Trash looks lovely on you! I may have to get that one whenever these are for sale. I am also thinking of getting the color ‘Spirit’. I glanced at these over at the Ulta website, but geez,,,why can they not get their color swatches correct? Is that too much to ask? Lots of times when I buy from their site, I figure I’m gonna love a certain color, only to get it home and the color is sooo off. 😛

Thank you! I know! Ulta has such weird promo images! This happens a lot but more so on Ulta’s site because everything is either darker or lighter than the promo images they use!

I’m with you on the color scheme, I have one of the originals in the matte formula French Maid, and it looks almost Grey on my lips, not at all flattering.

I thought the idea was to create nude, natural shades hence the name….! But yup, lots of weird greyish colors or toffee tans. Not a good nude for me :-/

    Thanks for the review!

How does it compare to NYX Butter Gloss Intense (not the regular)? Is it similarly pigmented? It sounds like it’s likely just as pigmented.

Is it “dry lip friendly” (for those of us with dry lips or who dry out easy)?

I love how pigmented they are (Intense Butter Gloss) and that I can use just a little bit and sheer it out as little as I like or use more if I want. I prefer more of a color wash on my lips.

(I used to love NARS chelsea girls in the pot version because I could do that and get a color wash and some moisture, nothing else since seems able to do both moisture and color.)

I like the regular Butter Gloss for a gloss, but for a little more color the Intense version.

Sometimes, I look at Nyx shade ranges, and I go mm.. I don’t want any of these. I wonder how that is possible with soooo many lip products. You are right, many repeated shades.
