Too Faced Natural Nudes Intense Color Coconut Butter Lipstick Review & Swatches

I purchased three shades of Too Faced Natural Nudes Intense Color Coconut Butter Lipstick during Macy’s 15% Off a few weeks ago and sadly, only one of the three shades arrives as the others went out of stock.

In some ways, I have to express relief that the others didn’t arrive but I know at the time I was disappointed they didn’t. But after trying this formula, I was like, “I’m ok with just the one shade!”

The shade I ended up with was Strip Search and honestly, this was the shade getting the worst reviews from what I’ve read. So, I guess in the defense of the Too Faced Natural Nudes Intense Color Coconut Butter Lipstick Collection (say that fast three times) I can’t really say, “Well these are crap!” but if Strip Search ends up being the norm for the formula, well, that means I can say hey, don’t bother.

The thing that bugs me most about this collection was the shades. I feel like out of the 10 shades they launched none are really truly good nudes for my skin tone. None of them seem the ideal shade for my tone. I felt for sure from the It Comes Naturally Collection that the lipsticks would be what got my attention most.

Sadly, it didn’t turn out that way.

Strip Search is a soft warm pink which should be suitable for me as I have a good deal of warm nude pinks and they look great on my lips. Sadly, the shade gave me a really bad case of zombie lips. On me it looks more like lighter peach with a white base. Strike 1!

Too Faced calls the formula creamy and pigmented. Apparently they are infused with coconut butter to give your lips a hydrating, smooth appearance. Cool! That sounds fab as I have drier lips. There is absolutely no doubt this has a creamy texture with an easy, smooth glide on my lips. It’s a thicker texture that’s quite heavy but feels quite hydrating. The color is pretty much opaque on a single application and initially it looked very smooth but within a few minutes it settled horribly into my natural lip lines which gave it a dry, aged appearance. Ugh noooo! Not a flattering look at all. Strike 2!

You’ll notice I didn’t take a photo of myself wearing this. It’s just that bad looking that I didn’t want to embarrass myself wearing it!

There are so many things to love about this lipstick. The gorgeous packaging with the lace accents, the creamy texture, the pigment! There’s a lot of great stuff happening here.

But the color I choose just wasn’t working out for me. That did kill some of my lemmings to grab some more. And also, as I said I felt like the shade range wasn’t entirely friendly for me.

Oh well!

There are a lot of fish in the lipstick sea.

Your review is totally in line with what I read, for formula/performance. Plus, the verbal descriptions of the shades are gonzo inaccurate. Watch for markdowns soon!

the shades seems lovely at first but after a minute you’re like, “mmm these aren’t going to work for me!”

  • Carol

None of these shades were appealing to me from the get go…they all looked way too pale and a lot of them looked too similar to one another. Must have been really bad if you wouldn’t even post a photograph! And at least the other two you ordered were sold out…money saved.

Yes I 100 percent agree with your review! I got to try one for myself, and yes , while creamy and hydrating, and opaque, it didn’t set nicely. It almost like, separated on the lips if that makes sense. And as you said, total zombie lips. the tube color is almost deceptively darker than what appears on the lips . So strange! The shade selection also Is lacking for my particular skin tone as well . Your review was so spot on ! 🙂

OMG THANK YOU! I thought I was being too harsh! The color really put me off trying any other ones. It’s weird because it feels so nice going on but it just looks aging and dry on my lips! Weird!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you have this shade too or did it happen with another shade?

      • Courtney

I have the ‘Send Nudes’ shade. Definitely does look dry on the lips! I saw the other ones in-store today and the shades are just not my type of nude, unfortunately. It was a great concept tho …… anyone reading this, swatching this on your arm will swatch beautifuly. on the lips, big thumbs down . for me at least.

I had the same issue! I swatched on my arm for the review and after testing it the color was so much more different and chalkier on my lips. Sigh. I agree, the concept is great and the formula is lovely but didn’t work out on my lips!

This is the first thing that Too Faced has released in a long time that I had actually been interested in. I saw them at Sephora yesterday, and in person, I really wasn’t impressed with the colors. I love nude lip colors, but none of these seemed like they’d be especially flattering on me. Also, I really hate the names of them, like Nip Slip, come on!!! LOL

    • Isabella Muse

LOL agreed on the names! Rolling eyes here ;-D and yeah, I felt the same way! These are just not flattering nudes to me! Shrug!

  • Kristina Lemasson

Awww I wish I had read your review before purchasing Strip Search today at my nearest outlet store! I swatched it on my hand and thought it was the most *gorgeous* shade of nude pink. It looked exactly like your hand swatch, as I’m around the same skintone as you are.

Then I got in my car and immediately tried it on my lips, and it is far too pale for me! It also settled into my lip lines, like you mentioned.

What a bummer! The lipstick was final sale so I can’t return it. I’m going to try to pair it with a rose lip liner, but I hate having to work extra hard to make a lipstick shade work for me.

That sucks sorry Kristina! I’d try it with a bit of clear gloss! That really goes a long way making it look better imho 🙂 good luck!
