The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer ($4.90) is an odd little facial prime that promises mattify skin, hydrate it, and blur the appearance of pores and finer lines while keeping your foundation wearing long and strong all day.

The reason it’s a bit of an odd formula is because it’s a bit confused what it actually is. Is it mattifying? Is it silicone based? Does it extend the wear of your foundation? Contrary to the name it isn’t silicone-based but that of a water one which is great for us dry skinned ladies and lads. I found it very hydrating but wouldn’t call it mattifying and I’m unsure whether I noticed an extension in the wear of my foundation but it’s a rather fab, inexpensive little facial primer none the less.

According to Deciem this contains adaptive silicones to act as a matte, hydrating, and blurring primer. I think the name says a lot more about the formula than the actual performance. I mean, really, dosn’t “High-Adherence Silicone Primer” sound like you can go deep sea diving in your foundation and come out of Lynda Carter fresh!

Technically, it’s a pretty basic primer that’s very, very pleasant to apply and wear but doesn’t haven’t any super hidden benefits or talents. I’d liken the texture to a thicker form of my very first hydrating primer, Korres Primer Silicon-Free Primer. You see a long time ago, sometime in 2009, Korres did the unthinkable. They released a hydrating silicon-free primer! 2009 wasn’t that long ago but there were a lot few choices in the facial primer world at that time and most available were silicon-based which meant if you had dry skin you were screwed. Nowadays hydrating primers are fairly common.

I digress though! Back to my thoughts on Deciem’s High-Adherence Silicone Primer! I realize I sound like I’m bringing this formula down but I’m not. I actually really like it. It’s a thicker cream texture that absorbs super easily into my skin without leaving it greasy nor shiny which leads me to believe that oily skin will be perfectly fine using it should they like. It provides a nice level of moisture which is ideal for allowing my foundation to apply smoothly. This is what I look for in a primer as a dry skin girl. I always prep very well prior to applying any makeup and I rely heavily on my skincare for hydration but a good moisturizing primer goes a long way to helping my foundation to apply smoothly and also to look fresh throughout the day and this does exactly that.

In the end, The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer is a fairly basic, straight to the point hydrating primer that doesn’t have any skincare benefits which it never claimed to have. It isn’t going to allow your foundation to stick around longer but it will help it to apply smoothly and keep it looking fresh and really for under five bucks I’m cool with that!

It’s worth checking out if you don’t require a tons of bells and whistles in your face primer.

Sadly, this primer didn’t work for me. I found that it balled up when I applied my makeup, no matter how I adjusted the application. It did smooth out my pores, but then my makeup clung to the primer in my pores and looked horrible and speckly. It was a big fail for me. I do have oily skin and larger pores though.

I use this all the time. I also like their High-Spreadability Fluid Primer which I find myself reaching for more often. I think it does make my makeup last longer and keeps me from being shiny. They are so affordable too!
