5 stars out of 5

I dunno where Carol’s Daughter 4-in-1 Combing Cremes have been all my hair life but thank god they are in my hair life now! This stuff is amazing! And you totally need it if you have soft water in your home or a pool that’s damaging your hair.

Ok, so story time. I’m a city girl and I’m used to hard water. It was a total game changer for me when I built a Summer house upstate and was presented with soft water. WTH…! Anyone dealing with soft water daily deserves a major award. It’s rather disgusting. It feels slick and slimy and just weird and wrong. After endless questions to my plumber about the filtering of the water, etc…I finally had to come to terms with the fact that soft water was the way of the world in the country.

Yay.

Heavy sarcasm.

Not only does it have an unusual texture but when you wash your hair, hands, body it always feels like you haven’t rinsed off the soap. It’s just the weirdest session ever. Soft water also seems to really like to play havoc with my hair as well causing dryness, frizz, etc….

This combined with the fact I’m in the pool a good deal over the Summer and my hair is like a bird’s nest after getting home on Sunday night after being upstate for the weekend.

That’s where Carol’s Daughter 4-in-1 Combing Cremes comes into play. Oh my god these do such good things for my hair. I should start by saying that I don’t really like leave-in conditioners but I’m ok with detangling mists. This made me a little skeptical when I purchased my first combing cream as I felt for sure it would be a leave-in conditioner formula that causes buildup, makes my hair look greasy, and just doesn’t play really nicely with my very long, wavy hair.

How wrong I was! I tried one and just fell in love. The formula is quite thick but it has a gel-like texture that breaks down as soon as you rub your hands together and smooths into hair very easily. The best part is the fact you can use this on wet, just out of the shower hair and it makes combing through tangles a breeze not to mention it makes your hair super smooth and soft while eliminating any dryness caused by soft water or chlorine from your pool! It really improved the manageability of my hair, eliminated a ton of frizz, and provided very intense moisture! I got the Black Vanilla formula but there are three different formulas and scents to choose from that address different issues. Black Vanilla is a moisturizing formula for drier, brittle hair but it worked a treat on my drier hair that I wouldn’t say is brittle but does have a good deal of frizz.

Overall, if you spend a good deal of time in the pool (or you have a soft water problem) over the Summer and your hair needs some extra moisture and TLC these combing cremes are awesome.

Love, love, love!

Muse, you are too funny with your soft water story! I’ve had soft water growing up and then again for the past 15 years in my previous house as the water in that city was so hard it left rings in your toilet and white calcium deposits all over your dishes. We had no choice but to have a water softener. Now, since you didn’t grow up with it and are only using it on weekends no wonder you can’t adjust. The secret to soft water is to use less product. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, any and all “foaming/cleaning agents” so to speak. You simply don’t need to use as much as the water has been cleared of the harsh minerals. So you are probably having issues because you are just using your normal amount of shampoo, soap, etc and it’s 10 times harder to rinse it out with soft water. So no doubt your hair is jacked up! But the reality is, if shampoo/soap are used properly, your hair should be awesome due to the soft water. (At least mine was. Plus you’re not using as much product which is nice too). Let me know your thoughts…

I love you right now because I’m going try your rec and pray it works. I tend to use a lot of conditioner, soap, etc! I’ll start using less and see if that helps! I swear after I shower I come out feeling like I have soap all over my body and residues of conditioner in my hair! It’s awful! When I was my hands I feel like I still have soap all over them. It’s just a really awful feeling! My hair is a mess after the weekend! It’s so weighed down! Will def try this and let you know!!!!!!!!!! Honestly, the hard water isn’t that bad! No deposits, no ill effects on my hair, maybe I’m just used to it. I’m going to def use less product and hope it works out ;-D thanks Carol! You’re my guardian angel right now ;-D I’m headed upstate this weekend I’ll keep you posted!

Yes, that’s definitely the problem then. Because if you’re still feeling the residue that’s why. Yes, some cities that have hard water don’t have it bad. Where I live now, it’s totally fine. But where I used to live, every single person HAD to have a water softener otherwise all that calcium would build up over time and just clog all your pipes not to mention how disgusting it made your dishes look. It was bad. So good luck but I know you’ll find that by using less it’ll work out for ya! ❤️

oh no that sounds worst than soft water! Thank you! I’ll try it I can’t thank you enough because I’m really revolted my soft water it just feels so gross!

Hi Muse-you can probably have your softener adjusted so your water is not too soft for your taste. It might be regenerating too often.

    • Isabella Muse

how do I do that!? I had a super expensive filter put it that was supposed to help but it didn’t 🙁 If the regenerating as anything to do with the filter it typically runs daily at around 12AM.

We actually put a water softener in our home because our city water is so hard. My hair was so dry and frizzy with the hard water. I actually hate the soft water on my body, it does feel slimy and gross. It does wonders for my hair though.

    • Isabella Muse

it makes my hair ratty 🙁 I think it might be because of what carol said, I’m using too much shampoo! I’m going to try it with less and see if that helps!!!!

ps my plumber proceeded to drink a glass of it in front of me because I was whining about the texture and he was all, “See? It’s fine!” and I was sort of grossed out. I never attempted drinking it. It feels gross on my skin I can’t imagine it in my mouth lol!

This post and the comments made me laugh, because I’ve gone from soft water to hard water and am absolutely miserable. I want to shave my head, my hair hates it so much! I guess “normal” is subjective, huh?

    • Isabella Muse

that’s so beyond weird for me! Hard water is way better for me! I just can’t past the weird texture and the fact it feels like I haven’t rinsed off my hands/body!
