About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Muse, if you were to recommend some specific items from the sale section–say, top 5-10 products–what would they be?

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Carla! water eyeshadow, hydra gloss, shiny lip stylo, jelly stylo (must have), glossy dream sheer lipstick, I don’t have any of the seasonal eyeshadow palettes that are on sale but do have other nine-pans from Kiko that I love so those are a safe bet to haul! Don’t haul the Cushion Blush! It sucks! Well, the formula doesn’t suck but the color shade selection is awful and doesn’t show up skin! Skip that!

Muse, I had a bad experience with their customer service recently. I ordered a bunch of clearance single shadows and they arrived broken; they wouldn’t refund me and told me I had to return them”but they don’t accept clearance items for return. I did a CC disputed and I won’t buy clearance from them again. That being said, I ordered one of the clearance Water Shadows and paid for FedEx shipping as an experiment (to see if it was my postal service) and it arrived broke again; upon closer inspection, it appeared to have dried out and shrunk away from the pan. I don’t have this issue with their palettes or any other products, just certain eyeshadow singles (which I’m assuming have sat in the warehouse for a long time if they’ve been put on clearance/last chance before DC) but lesson learned. Wanted to let you know though!

that’s horrible! I’m shocked! I had an eyeshadow palette arrive broke and contacted them right away and sent photos. They wouldn’t send a replacement which disappointed me but they did credit my debit card right away! I’m shocked they didn’t do the same for you! I am so sorry that happened to you!

They used to be better about this sort of thing. They said my address had too high a rate of damaged goods, but it only seems to happen with them? I’m concerned that with their bankruptcy in the US, maybe they’re not doing well here? It made me a little sad because I used to obsess over their products. I’m only going to do big orders now so I can justify paying for FedEx shipping (just in case it’s my post office being rough on my packages) and of non-clearance items so they’re returnable–but even with that precaution, without a physical store to return things to unlike Ulta and Sephora, returns take 30 days to process. I’ve never been a big fan of shopping from sites that I feel like it’s a hassle for these sorts of things so I may need to find another budget-friendly obsession (I recently hauled Sleek from Ulta; I can’t wait to experiment!)

Also, even though I’m like, “Oh, maybe it’s my post office that keeps breaking my single shadows,” I’ve ordered a ton of single shadows from Etude House and StyleKorean that ship from South Korea that never arrive broken, as well as my countless Ulta orders. Although I did have 1 Sephora palette that arrived broken but that was the first time that’s happened with a Sephora package in the 3 years at my current address–which is why I question that it’s “my address” that’s the problem? My Kiko orders ship from their warehouse in NJ, which is literally a day’s drive away…so I dunno. Either way, it kind of left me feeling badly. The problem is, despite my feelings about their CS, I love their products enough to get over my feelings about it…for now. :-\

they typically pack well I wish the same could be said for amazon and target who throw makeup into a box with absolutely no padding. I’m sorry about that! 🙁 Even bankrupt that shouldn’t interfere with their customer service! They should be even working hard to keep their fans happy because of this! You should contact them again and explain to them this isn’t your fault and you’d like a credit or you’ll be disputing with your credit card. I am shocked they treated you like this. I’ve never had an issue. I had one palette arrive broke but like I said they just refunded me. I was disappointed with the refund as I wanted them to ship me a new palette which they said they couldn’t do (I didn’t want to re-pay shipping to get it) but at least they gave me the money back!

          • Agona

I tried that; CS ignored a couple of my emails and then responded a little snarky. :-/ So that’s why I ended up having to dispute. Oh, well…I’m trying not to take it personally even though I’m a little upset about it. Thanks, Muse, I appreciate the empathy”hugs!!

          • Isabella Muse

that’s horrible! Did you try tweeting them or sending a public FB message? Honestly, sometimes embarrassing them helps! I’d totally get in there with a tweet that says, “Hey what’s up with CS? My order is broke and having an issue getting replacements!” I’d be very upset about it! Broken stuff isn’t your fault! It’s different if you dropped it and expected a refund. This is stuff they shipped which arrived broke. Proper CS would be to get you a replacement! 🙁 xoxoxo big hugs 😀

Hahaha, I don’t have Twitter but did try a FB post/message…they ignored it. 🙁 I was upset because like you said, I can’t control how something arrives to me but the problem is I love their products so much that I think I might be willing to put up with terrible CS. :-\ I know I shouldn’t since I was pretty upset at the time with how they were treating me, but my fiancé (a very non-emotional rationale type of guy) pointed out to me that the fact that they closed most their stores/filed for bankruptcy in the US shows they obviously aren’t doing to well with their business practices here in the States–that makes me sad too because I want them to thrive in the US…with better CS, LOL.

          • Isabella Muse

wow! That sucks even harder sorry girl! LOL likewise! with WAY better CS than they gave you! I’m shocked they aren’t thriving in all honesty. I guess they just never took off which surprises me since the quality is amazing!
