Which Shampoo, Conditioner, or Styling Product Leave Your Hair Smelling Awesome?

I hate humidity. I mean who doesn’t right? That sticky, thick, hard to breath warmth that just makes you want to stay inside in the air conditioning all day without moving any part of your body.

You know the one good thing that comes from really hot weather is the fact it always makes your perfume and your hair smell amazing. Ok, that sounded weird but isn’t it somehow true? I’m not talking about the stench of sweat here! I mean if you wash your hair in the morning like me and race around all day in the heat you’ll catch a little hint of fragrance and you’ll kind of turn your nose up sniff and wonder, “What is that beautiful smell?” and realize, “HEY! That’s me!”

I’m having one of those moments today. My day starts at 4:30 AM every day except the weekends. Since leaving the house at 7 I’ve been racing around and we had some rain today but there’s still a touch of heat in the air so I keep catching the faint scent of my hair and loving it. When I got to my office at 9 AM I was instantly asked, “What’s that perfume!?” It actually isn’t a perfume at all since I forgot to apply any today! It’s just my hair!

I’m using my very beloved Shiseido Ma Cherie Shampoo and Conditioner today (Review). I legit buy Ma Cherie hair care in bulk from Japan! I love it that much! I typically get it from AlphabeautyUK since the prices are awesome, the shipping is fast, and the seller is super reliable.

This happens to me with Naive Peach Shampoo and Conditioner as well! The scent is so strong and lasting!

I am still the biggest Carol’s Daughter fan but has anyone noticed that their hair care isn’t as strongly scented as it used to be? When I used to use Black Vanilla Shampoo and Conditioner my hair would smell all day! Now I barely get any scent from it! Thanks a lot L’Oreal! That was one of my Summer favs as the scent just lasted and lasted and lasted and I’d get so many compliments about how great I smelled when in fact it wasn’t a perfume just my hair.

Oh well!

If you really want to go way back I remember Pantene used to have a hair fragrance mist that was created with smoker’s in mind. It was a teal shade and came in a 4 oz mist bottle. It was a really fresh scent. I’m not a smoker but I bulk it in bulk year’s ago at CVS when it went on sale and it was discontinued. That stuff was amazing! It made my hair smell so damn good!

I don’t know if you remember or ever used it but Revlon Outrageous smelled so good in my hair. I always used to get compliments. I bought about 10 bottles off of ebay years ago and have just been looking at them wanting to use them but not wanting to run out. Just checked ebay now and saw that one bottle is selling for $50+!!!

I’m tempted to sell them but really don’t want to part with them. Even wrote to Revlon who said they have no plans to bring it back. Maybe I need to find a perfume company that can replicate scents?

    • Isabella Muse

I did not have the pleasure of using Revlon Outrageous! Total urban legend for me, heard about it, never actually saw a bottle of it. OMG $50!? Crazzeeee! Etsy might be the way to go! Or Vermont Country Store as they carry really obscure beauty stuff maybe one day they’ll get Outrageous in!

    • Christina

Oh my gosh! Yes, outrageous! My mom used to buy that all the time and I would be the kid in school with the pretty smelling hair! Loved it!

    • Vee

Check out the Ouai line at Sephora. The shampoo smells like Amazing Grace imo but the conditioners all smell like Outrageous and it lingers on my hair forever.

  • Starbucks4Ever

Monat conert. 64, had itchy scalp my entire life. i have quit coloring which helped, the the plant based line has made my hair and scalp happy. Best blow dry cream EVAH.

  • Yelena Rivera

ooh i really wanna know what products u can add for smell only (not styling bc my hair is curly, so once this baby dries, you cannot touch it unless you want frizz to take over).

  • Deb

Oribe. I am addicted to the smell. Too bad it’s so damn expensive.

  • Michelle

I just picked up Aveda’s new Cherry Almond shampoo and conditioner. I haven’t used it yet, but it smells great in the bottle!

  • kjh

Being a fan on the more ‘manly’ scents, have high hopes for the earth, beauty planet vetiver/tea tree I ordered from Ulta. OGX shampoos are strongly scented, so much that I had to move to a different room from a coworker who was overwhelmed.

    • Ruth

I bought an OGX shampoo & conditioner and the scent was so overwhelming and it smelled so overwhelmingly like dude- I had to stop using it because it was making me a bit ill.

  • Deena

Omg…..I used to love Revlon Outrageous. The scent was gorgeous!! I like the Pacifica Hair and Body Mists and believe it or not some of the VO5 shampoos and conditioners. I recently purchased cocoa pink argan oil so I will see how that smells. I also like Oway products!!

    • Isabella Muse

oh yes I like the Pacifica ones too! I love they multitask for body and hair!

  • KimMWC03

I miss that Pantene hair mist. Loved that stuff. I buy the Fekkai now but it’s just not the same.

I wash my hair at night so nothing lasts on me but I always got compliments when I used Pantene.

    • Isabella Muse

WTH was it called?! I can’t remember lol! It was amazing! I agree Fekkai is nice but not the same!

  • Susan francis

I too am a huge fan of delicious smelling hair products. I have recently discovered Rose Hip Oil shampoo by Chi. I use many of their products and they smell wonderful!

  • Terumi

I use the Moroccan oil smoothing shampoo, conditioner, and the oil. The fragrance lasts all day and sometimes even through day 2. It’s not a scent for everyone but I’m hooked on it.

    • Sqeaky

Same! I only use the hair oil, but I love the way it smells so much that I’ve literally dabbed it behind my ears and on my wrists as a perfume!

  • Angie Clementine

Pretty much anything by Shea Moisture! Of course, their Coconut and Hibiscus scent is amazing, especially for summer, but lately I’ve been using their Argan Oil and Almond Milk Conditioner or their Raw Shea & Cupuacu Hair Masque. The Argan Oil and Almond Milk scent smells like sweetened, creamy almond milk. It reminds me of marzipan! I think the Raw Shea & Cupuacu line has unfortunately been discontinued, but it has a wonderful nutty scent that is similar to the Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream.

  • Christina

Okay, Muse. I’m going to run out to my local Japanese market to see if they carry ma cherie. If not, to the internet I go!

I like the scents from R&Co. Those are pretty unique.

    • Isabella Muse

let me know if you find it. SOMETIMES SOMETIMES on a rare occasion I can find it at Hmart but it tends to be expensive!

  • jennifer

i used to LOVE herbal essences shampoo and conditioner in the 90s! the pink one and the yellow one. i know that p&g has brought back both of those 90s classics, but i’ve been cruelty-free for years and cannot use the products in good conscience. sometimes i’ll take a whiff when i’m strolling through the drugstore shampoo aisle, though! 😉

  • Courtney

Orofluido elixer! It has this wonderful vanilla/amber smell that I just love.

  • Mary Ann

I’m going way back to the ’70’s-80’s for this, but I would use “Gee your hair smells terrific” and “Body on tap”. Holy smokes smelling my hair was like a drug to me after using those products. Right now I’m enjoying Pantene hibiscus and coconut I got from Costco. Pretty much anything with coconut does it for me.

    • MelodyJ

My grandma used to wash my hair with + Gee your hair smells terrific” when I was little. I thought I was the only one here old enough to remember it. Also, I liked the old school Pantene scent. It was spicy not citrusy like the newer one that smells like surf clothes detergent.

    • Claudia

I have to ask, how is that Pantene? Is it like the nature fusion moisture balance they used to make or is it like the regular stuff? My hair doesn’t like the regular stuff or the moisture renewal line, it dries it out.

      • MelodyJ

It was so long ago.It was in the 90’s They don’t make that version of Pantene anymore. There used to be a deep conditioning pack in a gold package in addition to the shampoo and conditioner. The conditioning pack worked great on my hair.

  • Gayle Galor

I know it’s simple and old school, but I’ve been using Pantene since I was a kid and my whole life I have gotten SO many compliments about it. I’ve tried a lot of different expensive brands, but it’s honestly my ride or die. It makes my hair look and feel the best out of everything I’ve tried. Whenever I used to visit my dad during the summertime, I’d stay in my baby sister’s room and she once told me that after I left she would always use my pillow because she loved the way it smelled like me.

  • Randi MacDonald

I wish that AGREE was still for sale. It smelled amazing. I think I’m showing my age with this comment. LOL

  • Randi MacDonald

I wish AGREE was still for sale. It smelled amazing.

Oh Lord a lady after my heart. I love scented products especially hair care products. Nothing like that lovely, fresh clean scent of freshly shampooed hair. I remember Outrageous by Revlon. Sad when it was d/c’d. I love one of my old stand bys Aveda Shampure. But I love trying new things. I have an older Fekkai hair scent mists that smells somewhat summery/tropical. But alias it doesn’t really last all that well. I might have to try the peach one that you mentioned. Lovely summer scent to be sure. Also if anyone likes B&BW body mists, sometimes I lightly pump out a bit and walk through the mist. The mist seems to hold onto hair better than skin. Since their body mists aren’t as strongly grounded as they used to be. Hope everyone finds something to their liking.

  • Silvia

A tea tree shampoo I got at Costco by Giovanni years ago that thing has lasted forever. It smells so clean and I find it instantly relaxes me while at shower only wish it would last the entire day but I receive compliments with that one. Saw them recently at TJ Max and dumb me should have purchased 4 bottles! The Traders Joe’s one is nice too but lighter scent. Love that stuff!

  • Diana

I have 2 different dry shampoos from the brand Not Your Mothers, one smells like toasted coconut and the other like creme brulee. That is the only reason I buy them. I also love Maui moisture because of the tropical smell. I’ve been wanting to see if the Pacifica hair mists last a long time.

  • Kirsten

Oribe anything, and if you use lightly scented regular shampoo/conditioners their styling products do the same job. Also, weirdly, Wella Brillance Shampoo combined with Fekkai for Color (the pink stuff).

  • Clare Pennell

Aveda shampure and lee Stafford coco locks both gorgeous

  • Linda

I always get compliments when I use Iles formula from Sephora and Kenra boosting spray foam

  • Rachel

I LOVE ICHIKAMI Soft Moisture Shampoo & conditioner set (the orange bottles) from Japan. You can get them super cheap in Japan – but not too bad on Amazon. Literally dollars in Japan though and it makes your hair so soft

  • DM22

I love nice smelling hair products too. Just recently I ordered Revlon Outrageous conditioner off of EBay and can’t wait for it to get here. It was $12, free shipping. I also like:

    -Finesse
-Orzene Beer shampoo (a Greek brand, smells like what golden shampoos like Breck smelled like in the 80s)
    – Herbal Essences Smooth/ Shine collections (pink/ yellow bottles)
    – Garnier Whole Blends Chamomile Honey (only certain Walmart’s have it- similar to what the long discontinued Faberge Wheat Germ Oil & Honey smelled like, but with more chamomile
-Matrix Biolage (in the classic scent)
    – Aveda Shampure
    – Victoria’s Secret So Sexy (discontinued recently)
    – Shiseodo Rosarium
    -Prell shampoo
