About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Don’t you just love that stuff? It smells so good I just want to eat it. And oh how that scrub works wonders on my dry skin here in the desert. And the oil!! I don’t even remember how I discovered the products but ever since I did I’ve been stockpiling it all.

        • Isabella Muse

I don’t typically like oil but I LOVE it on my legs! I got the sugar coconut set (I don’t like lavender so I skipped that). ;-D I’m glad you got a deal on it!!!!

  • Andrew

Thank you Muse! I’m always on the lookout for a good deal .

And you’re right, this IS the way it currently goes; and I’m afraid we’re reaching a ‘Beauty Bubble’ like the internet bubble burst back in the early 00’s. Brands keep competing to put out trendy new items first to the point that every week a major brand is launching something new. I’m afraid the market is already getting saturated and, before long, companies will start hemorrhaging money. When there’s so much to choose from consumers are extra careful to make sure they get the most bang for their bucks; eventually sales will plateau across the industry and you’ll start seeing brands disappear at a crazy rate. History is cyclical, after all.

As someone who is about to launch a beauty brand, I’m a little terrified at the implications of the aforementioned problem. I hate the thought of launching my baby into the current market; I hate to think my years of work will fold before it ever gets a chance to flourish. But I guess that’s true of any entrepreneur in any industry (lol).

On the plus side, papa loves himself a good bargain so the consumer in me is happy to see so many sales pop up all the time. I just know I’ll be in the other side of the fence soon, and then it won’t be as happy of a situation . Oh well, C’est la vie I guess!

I am too lately. Seems like the entire world is on sale. We are indeed. WWD did an article about this recently, if you have a minute look it up. It’s very interesting reading! I was just talking to a friend/fellow blogger that said you’ll see Tarte at Target soon and I was like, “wow she’s totally right!” that might just happen considering their current business model. It’s a shame though because the beauty industry has always been one that has prevailed, just look at the lipstick index, proof positive that even during times of stress we are all about treating ourselves to a piece of beauty. But at this rate, indeed things are a little iffy. OMG freaking god. Tell me more. Congrats! 🙂 I totally understand your fear but if your product is good this market won’t be an issue at all. it’s all about the quality, customer service, presentation…if you have these things your customers will come 🙂 Haha..! Me too, me too! I wish you all the success in the world and if I can do anything to help promote your line let me know. I can’t wait to hear all about it when you’re ready to share!

Tarte at Target? Certainly, and maybe that’s their plan. Target has the Balm, that cycled through S & U, and Cargo, that started at Barney’s (home of Terry deG, Serge Lutens, Sisley, Cle, and all things UHE.) Access to an even greater mass market than they now have, and keep the prices up. Tarte would be perfect for prestige Target. Maybe they’ll do a third line there. (Muse had to tell me about the different lines for U and S.). CP and before it MUG taught us all that we did not have to pay premium prices for decent product. And that’s a major (true) mentality. The Biggies churn it out at an alarming rate (MAC seems to have slowed down slightly, by contrast) counting on the FOMO and acquisitiveness to crank us into impulse buys. Then, whoops, sale section. It’s probably fairly sound in terms of capturing the most customers. Resisters and non-impulse buyers: Hey, I wasn’t ready to shell out X for Distortion, and it didn’t rate that well, but for 33% markdown, I like/would use at least 2/3 of the shades. Sold. Amiright? Plus, the world LOVES a deal, a markdown. (I’d love to see the income statements with a breakdown of how much was earned on the initial sales vs. the markdowns. They probably have more earnings from the markdowns…which is why they keep doing it!) But, yeah, Andrew it is an Icarus situation. Far too close to the sun = crash and burn. I hope you have good financial advisers as well as backers. Will def read the WWD article. The enlightenment moment will be when we all realize that ‘Whoever dies with the most makeup, wins’ is one bad and spendy attitude.

I mean, that just seems where things are headed you know? Stranger shit has happened as I always say ;-D MAC has indeed, ironically on some levels, slowed down! LOL I laughed at whoever dies with the most makeup wins! I hope it’s me!

          • kjh

You aren’t old enough, baby girl. Not even a blogger, though you’d never know it by my stash. I keep stuff for sentimental reasons and even have the original Revlon Naked Pink….doubt it’s usable…though in 1965 (I think) everything was preserved to death. Boys have that ‘whoever dies with the most’ mentality about their toys, so why not us?

          • Isabella Muse

lol thanks I think! ;-D I do too! Even stuff that expires! I guess I’m a hoarder but whatevahs ;-D

    • Carol G

I agree Andrew. I’ve been saying this for awhile now. The market is totally saturated right now. I remember just a few short years ago you would NEVER see high-end cosmetics on sale. Now, all you have to do is wait a month (sometimes less) for something to go on sale. I do love it as a consumer, but as we’ve all agreed, it starts to bring down the quality because the companies seem like they are just churning out subpar products knowing it’ll be reduced in price later on.
I hope to hear more about your collection though. I’m all about giving an indie brand my money versus some big conglomerate (or celebrity).

    • Kish

I look forward to checking out your new brand soon! With this oversaturation, I’ve found myself drawn towards small brands. They have the unique stuff that keeps me excited about makeup. Best of luck!!

  • Jennifer Bell

Thank you so much Muse, I just picked up the Nurse Jamie roller I’ve been wanting.

    • Isabella Muse

My pleasure! I was going to get that set. LMK what you think! If you end up liking it and it’s still available I might get it 😀
