What’s Your Most Beloved Lipgloss Formula?

A long time ago in a land not so far away Too Faced had a magical lipgloss formula called Mirror Mirror Lipgloss and I loved it (please tell me you remember it!?). It had absolutely zero pigment (even though it was available in several shades), was heavily flavored (which I didn’t mind), and most important had the most incredibly shiny finish ever. Oh my god! Seriously, the shine on this stuff could be seen from the moon. It was just so crazy shiny and glossy looking.

I’m talking Samantha Sang’s shiny lips turned up to 500! I always associate really super shiny lips with the disco era for some reason. I dunno if it’s dated or not but I still love the wear glossy lips. I’ll apply lipstick and right on top, I’ll load up tons of clear glossy. Probably defeats the purpose of lipstick especially ones with a matte or satin finish but I love me a good glossy lip.

Mirror Mirror Lipgloss is long gone but I do love me some Maybelline New York Lip Studio Shine Shot Lip Topcoat which is almost as great as Mirror Mirror! It’s definitely on the top of my favorite lipgloss formulas!

BareMinerals Marvelous Moxie and Buxom are my favorite lip glosses, and really all I wear (not a lipstick fan).

    • Gayle Galor

I agree with all the Buxom fans. Their Full On Lip Polish is my absolute favorite because it’s not sticky and it gives such a nice minty sensation without burning the heck out of your lips. I remember when lip plumping glosses were new and I tried Lip Venom. Holy crap that stuff BURNED! So it’s nice to have a really good gloss with a little plump that doesn’t practically debilitate you.

Clinique AirKiss in a pot, any of the old Clinique potted glosses. When I worked there they were changing formulas and I bought the last 10 we had…sadly they are all gone.

    • Isabella Muse

I can’t even remember airkiss in a pot, is it the same text as the sweet pots?

      • Wendy

No they were a little stickier and had a capped lip brush, I have an original Black Honey I just un earthed from like 1982 (won’t use, but I got it from my grandma from her GWP) . Clear pot, Clinique Green rim and clear lid. Look it up on Google under “Vintage Clinique pot gloss”. Memories, ahhhhh.

        • Isabella Muse

Will do now! curious what these are and why I don’t remember them!

    • Jules

My first gloss ever was potted Clinique! I forget the name of the color, but it was a berry shade, kind of a cooler Black Honey? I miss the formula, but never was a fan of the pot itself.

I don’t think I’ve ever met a gloss i didn’t like, but my current faves are Rimmel Oh My Gloss!, NYX lip butter glosses, and Lorac Alter Ego.

Anyone else remember the old Victoria’s Secret flavored glosses? They were the thickest, stickiest, shiniest gloss ever! I loved them, but couldn’t wear them if i straightened my hair–they were so sticky, they would rip my hair out if some strands got caught in it! Mmmmm…Pear Glacé was divine, tho!

      • Isabella Muse

Lorac Alter Ego is a good one! Great formula and pigmented! YES of course and BBW too! They were fab ;-D

  • Alaine

My favorite for the last 10 years has been Buxom lip gloss! I loved Fresh lip gloss in sugar kiss, but they stopped making it. It was the most perfect peach shade & tasted so good too!

  • Jen

    I loved Mirror Mirror too!

My current fav is Colourpop. Their new gloss line is sooo nice for the price. They smell great, go on smoothly and wear nicely.

  • Kimmwc03

I have a hard time picking a fav especially since I’m always trying new ones but the Fenty gloss bomb is awesome.

For clear gloss, I’ve been using Glossier a lot lately. It’s simple but super glossy.

Probably Buxom in recent years, but I will always have a soft spot for the fruit flavored Stila lip glaze pens – I think I had 30 of them at one point in time 10 or 15 years ago! Pink grapefruit was one I bought repeatedly.

    • Isabella Muse

Gosh I did too! I always purchased the xmas sets too! I haven’t in years but they were so good!

  • Kitten

I loved the old Urban Decay Pocket Rocket glosses for how trashy-cute they were – had a picture of a guy on each one that went from fully clothed to stripped down, depending on the angle you held them at!

  • Dot

I’ve been reaching for Glossier and NYX butter gloss a lot lately. Both are not too tacky but glossy, which is nice for the summer.

I’ve been curious to try the new Nars vinyl lip gloss and the Marc Jacobs gloss sticks, but lord knows I don’t need anymore lipgloss.

  • Lori

The new Colourpop ultra glossy lips! They make your lips look so juicy and aren’t sticky at all!

  • Susan

Showing my age here but I don’t care. Best lip gloss EVER was Yardley’s Pot o’ Gloss from the 1970s. My favorite release was the autumn group of six (??) apple-scented ones in… I want to say ’72.

  • GINA

For me I have to say Milani Amore Shine Liquid Lip Color and Clinique pop splash lip gloss + hydration they were reeaally very hydrating!! 😀 and the colors were cute too (I bought 3 from the Marimekko collection). I don’t know if they still sell them though.

  • Kelly

It’s not called a gloss, but Bite Beauty Lip Mask! I love the Champagne and Lavender ones. They’re the only lip products that actually moisturize my lips and keep them moisturized. They’re my holy grail!

  • Rebecca

NARS lip gloss. Not sticky, smeary or messy, stays on but doesn’t dry out lips or leave a ring. They had a limited edition several years ago called Coup de Coeur that was the best color ever created. Current favorite is Scandal, a pretty versatile sheer red.

  • Brandy

I really like Wet N Wild coloricon lipgloss but I can’t find it in stores anymore so I’ve been using it sparingly. I refuse to spend a lot of money on lipgloss. The thought of spending $20 or more on one makes me sick (I’m kind of frugal). I also have a no name Milani one that I found at the Dollar Tree one time. It just says “lipgloss” on it but it’s similar to Nyx butter gloss. I also have a Neutrogena hydro boost lipgloss but wouldn’t recommend it as it’s a little sticky.

    • Isabella Muse

which coloricon gloss? there are so many 🙂 and most are reruns and relaunches so maybe you can still find a fav formula or shade!

      • Brandy

It was from the Wet N Wild Pop Art collection which was some time ago. My Rite Aid never has any of the new collections which means I can’t ever find the new lipglosses. If I ever find them again, I’m gonna stock up because I really liked them. Or I’ll bite the bullet and order them online.

        • Isabella Muse

Oh you can totally dupe those! Maybe not the exact shade but some of the coloricon’s available now should be good to go formula wise ;-D

  • Val.

I love love love Lorac’s glosses (alter ego line). Beautiful color and NO sticky feeling.

I bought some Buxom glosses when they were on sale at Ulta earlier this year because so many people rave about them, but they are just a little too heavy and sticky for my liking.

I also have been enjoying the NYX Lip Lingerie gloss line lately (not the matte version.)

  • Brenda Jones

Hey, Musey girl! It’s been a really different summer for me, but I get to pop in once in a while and can post. I’m very much a lipstick girl, but I tried a gloss by Skinn called Lip 6X. I never feel tight dry lips again. It’s great and has made me a gloss girl again 😀

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Brenda! Hopefully that’s a good thing ;-D never tried that one will have to look it up!

  • Ash

Chanel lip glosses last and they aren’t a sticky hot mess. Worth the splurge!

  • Beth

I’m an OG so I’ve seen and wore my fair share of lip glosses over the decades. I’ve always preferred the stickier ones because they always lock in moisture the best and even the more cushiony formulas too. Some holy grails that have been with me for YEARS are Bonne Bell Lip Smackers and their lip glosses in general. I grew up with the jumbo Bonne Bell Lip Smackers and they were the original gloss in stick form. Love the flavors (NO one had flavors like them) and the healthy gloss sheen they’ve always gave the lips and they have always provided more than enough moisture for me. I stocked up on the Bonne Bell made ones because it was inevitable that the new company who owns them changed many things about the product (eye roll). I also wore their Lip Lites for years have had many favorites. They use to own the lip market and did SO many great formulas.
Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush glosses and Bath & Body Works Liplicious glosses are some faves too and some of the most hydrating but they seem to have phased many out and only offered limited edition ones now. Other than that I love MAC’s Lipglass and Dazzleglass for shades nowadays and I did like Fenty’s Gloss Bomb but would love more shades and different flavors in those. I recently started using Mode roll-on Lip Glazes and the brand Tinte Cosmetics glosses since they brought back the Lip Lickers tins and Kissing Potion. Check them out, I’ve been loving them!

    • Isabella Muse

It’s such a shame bbw did away with the Liplicious line and most of the VS stuff is liquid lipstick no glosses 🙁 Sad!

  • Jess

Kiko Milano 3D hydra glosses are really shiny and help with any dryness and Clarins lip perfector
