Do You Like Hearing About Makeup Sales?

sales

Hey!

I feel like it’s been ages since I spoke to everyone. I’ve been a LITTLE MIA this week as work has me quite busy! I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the Fall. Here in Gotham it feels like more like Winter than Fall. It just feels like it got cold really quickly! Last year, it was a good deal warmer and I remember being grumpy about having the AC on in October. But now I’m all grumpy that I have to have the heat on in October. I just want some brisk but not too cold Fall weather!

Anyway…!

I wanted some feedback today.

I was wondering if you like and want to hear about makeup sales? I think it is unavoidable once Black Friday I do a lot of posts featuring deals because I think people like hearing about them but I’m not sure if it is too overwhelming at times. So any and all feedback is welcome 🙂

Have a great hump day!

Weekend is looming ahead!

P.S. Let me know how

Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I don’t mind hearing about sales. I am kind of bookmarking things in my head I want, and waiting on holiday sales to buy them. So I for one am good with the sale notices, and I appreciate them – and all that you do on your site!!!

  • Elise

Keep the info coming! I told you not too long ago, you are, hands down, the #1 blog for sale info. You actually post sale information in a speedy and timely manner! I would have missed out on a few things, if it was not for you! 😉

    • MM

      What Elise said!

For example, I wouldn’t have known about the current Sephora sale if it wasn’t for you. Despite the fact that I’m Rouge and normally get all their emails…but didn’t get this one and it’s the most important. But that is a rant for another day. 🙂

Please continue to post about sales. I get so much good information from you that I might miss elsewhere! I love you and this blog, even if my wallet/bank account does not! 🙂

      • Isabella Muse

aw thanks MM! 😀 I’m glad I was the one that gave you the heads up ;-D <3! thank YOU VERY MUCH!

  • Christina

I don’t mind the sales posts. It’s always good in case there was something I wanted back then but didn’t want to spend full price for.

  • Kyuu

I like hearing about sales! But given the volume of them, it might make sense to have a [weekly? daily?] master list you can update with items you think are particularly worth checking out. You can possibly link it in your sale floating header, and then update the header throughout the day/week as more sales come in with the stores, amount, highlight items, etc.

I think that might be a good balance of people who are interested in other posts on your blog and people who like the sales posts 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

I actually wanted to do that but the only thing that prevents me from doing so is sometimes people are alerted if I don’t do a post and they end up missing out on the sale. For example, yesterday the Smashbox Covershot Petal Metal went on sale but sold out. If I just left it in the header most people prob would of missed it. If that makes sense ;-D

  • Hollie

I love hearing about sales, and I especially love when you share what you feel is worth picking up in case it fell off my radar 🙂

  • Janet Kennedy

Yes definitely, keep us posted on makeup sales! You’re my go-to for the latest beauty updates and sales. Thank you so much!

  • kjh

Listen, we all have planning calendars in our minds, bec, ya know, make up funding is important and not underwritten. I already mentally earmarked that there might be a Strobe CM, for creepycute and divinity(which might cover my ND Safari cravings.) Not that I want you to enable us in this endeavor, but I WANT YOU TO ENABLE US IN THIS ENDEAVOR. Far too much of my mental energy is devoted to this, esp at my age. Ought to pull a Nancy Reagan and Just Say No, but that might be hopeless. Esp if any noteworthy Asian, anywhere, has deals. And the hot DS, Nyx, etc. You know what you cover best, yes, do it!

  • Stacey

    YES YES YES!

Sorry. Got a little excited there.

But seriously? Sometimes the only way I know there’s a sale is by checking the site or reading the muse newsletter. The more sales = more $ saved = more $ to buy more makeup.

That’s math and you can’t argue math

  • Victoria

Heck yes! In fact, I have this habit of coming to your blog to make sure I’m not paying full price before I buy something 🙂

  • Adrienne

I love hearing about the sales and appreciate the suggestions on how to maximize the deals, what to wait on, and comparisons when several retailers are running different sales on the same products or price matching. I find it very helpful especially for the prestige items.

    • Isabella Muse

I will def take that into consideration! I did a post like that last year for Sephora as everyone always gets so hyped for the 20% off but I always recommend waiting on certain brands because sometimes the discounts are greater 😀

  • Susan

I’m so-so about sales posts; since I’m on email lists from Ulta, Sephora, particular brands, etc. they are mostly superfluous. I prefer reviews but also know those take a lot of time and effort. Also not a fan of the prevailing push to “buy, buy, buy” and “you NEED this” type of posts, not just from you but from anyone. Sometimes it sounds kind of desperate.

Also, you didn’t ask, but I never read posts about fragrances, candles, and other scented products. I don’t feel those translate well to the written word — I have to try them in person, and things smell different to different people. For what that’s worth. And I do love your blog! <3

    • Isabella Muse

Oh gosh I hope I don’t sound pushy about sales and if I come across that way I am sorry! Yeah, fragrance/candle reviews are def harder to translate. Too bad we don’t have scratch and sniff monitors. I’m sometimes moved to do a fragrance review from time to time 🙂 please forgive me that! But I do some love perfume and sometimes I really want to share the love!

      • Susan

No, you don’t sound pushy — sorry, I could’ve worded that better! I’m more sensitive to “buybuybuy” notices lately because I have become interested in Konmari decluttering and also in a version of minimalism. It’s depressing how often I’ve let myself become a victim of marketing and have bought stuff I didn’t need and didn’t really want.

        • Isabella Muse

No worries, you’re good! I totally get you! I feel like my inbox has 30+ emails daily with sales. It’s pretty insane. I wish I could be more minimal but I always have a hard time parting with stuff. I become emotionally attached to all my stuff for some weird reason lol! I’m so a victim of marketing even though I try to be level headed and I am many times but I totally make really bad choices!

          • Susan

I got to the point where I felt that instead of owning stuff, it owned me instead. I’ve gotten rid of tons of crap and feel so much calmer and relaxed. Konmari is definitely the way to go for me. YMMV

Btw, I expect you to get right on that “Scratch ‘n’ Sniff Monitor.” You’d get rich for sure! 😀

          • Isabella Muse

I think once I get rid of it I’ll be ok it’s just actually convincing myself to get rid of it! LOL totally working on that!

        • Elise

Susan, I read Marie’s book about 3 years ago! For those who are curious the title is The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing.

I started dekrappifying (my personal term for decluttering) by tackling my over-sized, underused, outdated makeup collection. Oh how painful it was to toss soooo much barely used stuff, woefully past date. It did not happen overnight, but over time I was able to move on from just my makeup, to my closets, to other areas of my home. It even translated over to my work environment. I cannot tell you how much it has helped. It is not just about the possession of stuff, but efficiency in many many areas of my daily life and overall happiness. I know I am super simplifying this for this post, but I can tell you, it has worked for me. 🙂

  • Kish

I appreciate it so much! I try to keep up, but I love checking your blog and finding out about the latest sale.

  • Brianna L Gaudett

I love the sales info! It helps me know of really cool deals that I’d want to check out! I constantly watch your site and I love all of them.

  • Melissa

Oh yes please I do value your inputs regarding sales and items to buy and many of my purchases are based on them- so keep em coming !

  • PDO

I used to turn to G at NouveauCheap for makeup/skincare sales but she went MIA over a year ago, so I’m glad you’ve kind of been filling the void for me now that she’s gone. So Yeah keep the sales coming. I especially like when you give recommendations for what to buy during the sales. That Neiman Marcus sale was killer.

  • Tara

Absolutely, Muse! If it wasn’t for your post about the Smashbox Petal Metal eyeshadow palette sale at Macy’s yesterday, I NEVER would have known…and I would have missed out.
I love your posts about sales and check every single day to see if you have any new ones listed.
Thanks so much for all you do. It can’t be easy to work and keep up with this blog as beautifully as you do, so all of your efforts are greatly appreciated! 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

aw thank you SO SO SO SO much Tara <3! Those sold out AGAIN! So I'm glad you got them!

  • Susan

I love hearing about the sales. Some I already know about but others I would completely miss if you didn’t post them!

  • Alison

I love your sale posts! I would have missed out on 20% off Chanel if not for your post about the Neiman’s sale the other day. Spend more, save more, right? 😉

  • Nicole

Correct me if I’m wrong, but you have a master list at the top of your page for holiday sales right? Or is that another beauty blogger? Either way, I don’t mind them and find them really helpful. Maybe do the sales that you think are worth it so it doesn’t seem overwhelming or constant? Then again I think a lot of people are accustomed to the sales on sales posts during this time. Not sure if any of that was helpful. Personally, I would love if you posted about the sale specifically brand wide and listed some of your wants and recommendations. Thanks for being a rockstar and running a wonderful blog!!

    • Isabella Muse

No master list, I do put a few sales there that are currently active but I don’t keep master sales list anywhere on the site. Aw thanks! Def always try to share my thoughts when I see something on sale I think is worth picking up! And will do so more in the future it seems a lot of people really like that!

  • Linda

Yes, please! Bring the news. I count on you Muse for finding the best deals. Hautelook and Nordstrom Rack don’t interest me all that much. But I love to know about the big retailers and the sales brands themselves have. Thanks

  • rachel

I really appreciate them! Especially when you call out some brands. I don’t end up using them that much, but I monitor when I’m looking for something specific. I’ve been eyeing Byredo perfume for some time, but didn’t want to pay full price, I honestly didnt think they would ever go on sale, but jumped for joy when I saw your post about Neiman Marcus.

  • Kanwal Akbar

I love reading about sales….ur blog is my beauty news go to!
So I love ur work…ur blog…never stop running it…. it’s to the point…has all the latest juicy beauty info, reviews…and yes sale info…that’s what makes me buy stuff from my wishlist (when the price is discounted, I go for it!)

  • Tj

I Love exactly the way you are doing it now. I just wished I checked frequently so I didn’t miss that nars pallete at the rack.. keep it coming… great work!

  • keliana

With the holidays coming up, yes! Please keep the sales posts coming! Thank you so much for this.

  • Renee

I adore posts about sales. Even if I’m not in the immediate market, I like being able to share information with my friends. It’s always so much fun to see what’s new and on sale, too.

  • Susan

    Hi There,
I check your posts twice a day to see what’s new and what’s on sale. If not for you I would have NEVER known about Haute Look and a ton of other fab deals
I spend way too much on full price make up and it is so nice to get a great deal once in a while
Please keep the info coming ! I appreciate all you do!

  • Susan K

Love sale posts, they’re very helpful and welcome! Also, I love posts about new collections from brands, even if you aren’t planning to review anything from them. Just good to know whats out there and whats on the way. Thanks btw for the heads up on Beasame 3 for $30 deal. I would have never known about that if it weren’t for you and I totally took advantage since thats my fav powder. Which I never would have checked out initially 3 years ago if it weren’t for your review!

    • Isabella Muse

Thank you very much Susan 🙂 I’m so happy you got in on that Besame that was a great deal ;-D (I took advantage of it too haha)! I’ll def doing new collection posts as always! Little slow this week though still battling this damn cold!

  • Sydni

I love your posts about sales! I was so glad you posted about the Smashbox sale yesterday. I had the palette in my cart when it first went to 50% off, but hesitated and it sold out. If not for your post yesterday I would have missed it again!

    • Isabella Muse

omg yay! It sold out AGAIN! So I’m glad you got it. and I hope you love!

  • Dee

Yes, I do, and I appreciate your posting the information. I don’t keep up and wouldn’t know otherwise as this is where I head for all important makeup related info!

  • TropicalChrome

Another yes vote here! I found something I didn’t even know existed that I needed (well, need is a bit strong, how about really liked?) from one of your sales posts the other day.

  • Jen

Love your sale posts!! If you wouldn’t have posted about the Neiman Marcus sale the other day, I wouldn’t have scored a bunch of my Chanel favorites for 20% off!! (I see they corrected that, btw!) I say keep them coming please!

  • Deborah

Omg yes! You’ve tipped me off to many sales. The last one was the Lorac Mega Pro 4 on sale at Kohl’s. I was having my morning coffee and reading your blog. I hustled to Kohl’s by opening and picked up my mega pro on sale. I only paid $5 with my Kohl’s cash! . Honestly I have so much make up I pretty much only buy things on sale.
Do you by chance know anything about the mega pro 3? It wasn’t on sale that day and my store had tons but now it’s off the Kohl’s and Lorac site. I’d definitely buy that one on sale.
Same here! Straight from summer to winter.

  • Carolina

I love hearing about the sales. Keep the sales posts coming as they pop up. If it’s a good sale on something I’m interested in, I want to be able to jump on it right away. I’m already looking forward to news about Black Friday sales!

  • Rhonda

    YES!!!!!!!!!!
You let us know about a Bobbi Brown sale where you got a FREE full size lipstick with $60 purchase -what a great deal !! Thank you !!

  • CC

Petal Metal is on my dresser because of you. I never comment on anything, but had to say thanks for all the work you do. You are one of the only bloggers I trust. Please keep up the good work with both reviews and sales !

  • Michelle

I love hearing about sales. Most sales I wouldn’t even know about if you didn’t share them! I love that you always cover a wide range of sales as well, from drugstore to high end. Thanks for all your hard work!!

  • Bethanne

I love to know about holiday-related sales, Black Friday deals, etc. You do an amazing job keeping us all informed, Isabella. I am so grateful to you and your blog and follow it every day (even when I’m working late into the night). Thank you for all you do!

  • Vail Valley Girl

Sales provide me the opportunity to buy more things that I don’t need. And a few that I do.
So, yes, please bring on the sales!

  • Audrey

Absolutely I’d love to hear about sales going on. You already do a great job of providing a simple list of brands and sales and folks that don’t have lots of disposable income like me appreciate the ability to pick and choose what and when we make our purchases! Of course, don’t put crazy effort into compiling your lists for us. Makeup sales and launches come fast and hard and it’s very hard to keep up with them. Keep doing what you do!

    • Isabella Muse

ITA Audrey! It’s hard keeping a list of sales since they come and go so quickly ;-D thank you for your feedback 😀

  • Nush

I think crazy good sales on very popular products (like, Better Than Sex and stuff like that) is great, or ridiculously good bargains (30%+, ideally) . Tbh I do not give a crap about 20% off sales, those happen year round. Just my two cents 🙂

  • Anie

My original go-to for sales and info in the beauty world was Nouveau Cheap, but as she’s been gone over a year, I’ve gone back to just stalking here and Temptalia. More info is usually never a bad thing.
Granted, whenever I walk into Sephora or Ulta and see employees wearing foundation so thick it looks applied with a paint-roller, I keep thinking to myself that not bothering with makeup is OK as well.

  • Ashley

Yes! Staying in the know really helps, I tend to go to gwpaddict.com daily to see if I’m missing out on anything.

  • Claudia

Yes, please keep the sales info if you have the time to post. If it weren’t for you I would have missed out on stuff I had an eye on but waited for it to be cheaper. I LOVE your blog for the reviews, heads up about new releases, sales info and foreign releases/recommendations. I am lost when you post on the Asian drama/tv stuff because I just don’t watch it. And I love the rants because I often get a chuckle knowing I’m not the only one that feels that way! You have an amazing blog which I know takes a lot of your time so I thank you from the bottom of my ♥ for all you do!!!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thank you Claudia 🙂 ,3! LOL omg I’ll covert you to the joys of Kdramas haha ;-D thank you so so so much for the lovely compliment/comment!

  • Ann Marie

YES YES YES and YES! I check your blog 50 times a day before I shop ANYWHERE!!! Never quit!

  • Elizabeth

YES!! I LOVE hearing about make up sales! I need to hear about make up sales!! Sometimes the sakes are the only way I can afford some of the products. Thank you for all of your research and information! I feel you have the best blog out there! You are definitely my favorite! Thank you!!

  • Linda M

I do like hearing about sales as I am not signed up to receive emails from many of the makeup companies or stores. You’re my go-to gal! Thanks!

  • moi

Isabella, you know you’re my first email to read every morning under my category “Promotions”, so YASSSS, you need to keep talking about sales. It’s in your wheelhouse now, so you’re bound to stick with it, ha! Love, love, love opening up your emails. Again, my bank account spurns your existence, but don’t worry, there are ways to keep it quiet……Hugs from Canada. Moi

  • Kristi

Yes, love the sale updates! I work a 11 hour shift most days and usually only have the energy to check my email at the end of the night before going to bed. Your emails help me keep up to date on what’s going on since I don’t have time to sift around on sales- and if there’s a good sale, I try to stay awake a bit longer to shop it before I fall asleep with my phone on my face. But yes, I appreciate your sale updates, please don’t discontinue them!

  • Susan DiMonte

Love hearing about makeup sales. The Narcissist cheek palette you listed on sale the link doesn’t work

  • Julie Fielding

Yep, love ’em! I too have canceled many of my email lists from Ulta, bareMinerals, Sephora, QVC, and the list goes on for daily inbox promo emails. I like the Reminders from you on what is going on. That is how I just got my Freeman masks at Ulta and the new bareMinerals Celestial set. Keep it all coming! And please don’t stop on the candles, perfume and shower gel reviews!!!!

    • Isabella Muse

thank you so much Julie! This is very flattering ;-D haha I am always moved to do candle/perfume/and shower gel posts ;-D

  • Liz

I have mixed feelings about this, so I’m glad you asked. I enjoy your blog a lot, and have taken advantage of too many of the sales in the last year, if I’m being honest. Some great, and others I really didn’t need and have basically already forgotten about.

Since I need to seriously go on a low buy/ or really a no buy, I was worried I was going to have to stop reading your blog as often, if not altogether. ☹ I’m just in a place right now, where I need less temptation, not more. And fewer things, not more. So it’s hard to combat that, when I’ve gotten so accustomed to the entertainment value of reading about makeup, watching videos about makeup, and playing with products and techniques. It’s hard to find the balance between the entertainment of blogs, and the constant temptation to buy which is a real weakness for me. It’s like watching the Food Network, when you are on a diet. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense.

I like when you review things, or when you introduce a topic, like last week’s hated brand. Those are articles I can enjoy without feeling the urge to splurge.

Of course, that is just where I’m at, which doesn’t mean other people need to be there too.

Thanks for everything you do, Muse!

    • Isabella Muse

Aw I’m sorry to hear that Liz. Honestly, sadly I can’t build a blog on “topic conversations” only. Most readers want me to cover a variety of things like reviews, new product launches, sales, topics of discussion, etc…! I can’t get around the tempting you part sadly as there’s always going to be a temptation to buy something you might see me review or introduce/post about etc… I’m really sorry about that 🙁 If I could built this on beauty discussions and topics alone I’d totally do just that! 🙂

      • Isabella Muse

ps I hope you’ll stick around anyway even if it’s just to participate in the discussion posts I do 🙂

        • Liz

Of course! I doubt I will be going cold turkey any time soon. But I wanted to put it out there, as I have a feeling there are other readers who have a whole love/hate relationship with the Sales section.

          • Isabella Muse

I think so too! that’s totally why I asked as I feel like it can be very overwhelming at times. I hesitate whether to post or not at times!

  • Melissa

Yes please! I wish I had seen some of your sale and review posts before buying some products that were not great for me. Now that I follow your blog regularly it helps me to be ‘in the know.’

  • Lizzie

Yes, please do notify us about sales! I have scored many great sale item’s, just from discovering about sales them from your blogs. I find you have the best product reviews and information on new products and sales out there! I look foward to every email. Keep up the great work!

  • Merideth

Love your blog and want to weigh in with a different viewpoint … I don’t read in a timely enough way to take advantage of most of the sale information, so I don’t read those posts at all. Love the reviews, new product roundups, and everything else, though.

  • Lynne

Yes , All sales please ! Shoppers should help each other out . Just the actual facts of sale should be shared . Thank you in advance .

  • Debby

I love finding out about makeup sales! I am hoping for great Black Friday/ Cyber Monday beauty deals.

  • Sherry

Isabella, I love hearing about beauty sales. Keep them coming…..Thank you for posting them!

  • Robin Hawkins

I always enjoy hearing about makeup sales because I am too busy to keep up with everything…Thank you for keeping me aware of whats’ going on. I appreciate your hard work!

  • nora

Somewhat late comment, but YES! Please keep posting beauty deals! I’ve made purchase decisions based on your recommendations on what’s a good value
