What’s Your Beauty Secret To Younger Looking Skin?

How do you keep your skin looking young? Do you have a beauty secret or skincare product you use to keep your skin looking young? I have drier skin which I’m convinced ages faster. If you’re in this boat with me here’s how I keep my skin looking young.

Moisture! Moisture! Moisture! Moisture! It’s the key to the fountain of youth! Even for oily skin or combo moisture is very important but in particular drier skin really needs to keep their skin hydrated to the max to keep it looking younger.

Some of my favorite hydrating products include the legendary Sana Hadanomy Deep Moisturizing Mist which you’ve heard me go on and on about in the past I’m sure. This is a spray essence in my opinion since the texture runs a bit thicker. It’s one of the first things I use after washing my face in the AM and PM. The entire Hadamony Skincare Collection is fantastic but the mist is one of the items I’ve turned to again and again and again!

Another fav of mine is Belif The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb which has a gel-like texture that absorbs easily and leaves skin super soaked in lasting moisture! It’s def one of my favorite moisturizers in the Winter!

I am not a big fan of Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream as it seems over hyped and I wasn’t impressed with it at all when I tried it. However, the same does not hold true of her other three Magic Skincare products! Charlotte’s Magic Night Cream is my go to for long, hard Winters. This has a thicker texture that almost feels vaseline-line which absurbs easily and leaves my skin so incredibly smooth! Magic Eye Rescue Cream is another incredible product and one of my HG eye creams! I wouldn’t say it made my eyes look younger but it is super rich, thick, and delicious for drier under eyes! My eyes just soak this stuff up! And finally, one of my very favorite products that I do not use as a cleanser but as an overnight mask is the Multi-Miracle Glow Cleansing Balm. This formula was created to use as either a cleansing balm, beauty balm, or an overnight mask. I slather this ALL over my face in the evening after my other skincare before heading to bed and I wake up with super soft skin! Truly it’s as miraculous as the name implies!

And of course, CosRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence and CosRX Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power are also two of my get moisturized fast favs as well! Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power is particularly great and not only moisturizing skin but plumping it up giving it a cushy, youthful appearance.

Oh I ADORE that snail mucin essence from CosRX! Fun fact: I put it on a deep cat scratch on my hand and that sucker healed four times faster than usual!

Also all I can picture is Lady Cassandra now- MOISTURIZE ME! That would be a fun Halloween costume!

Yoda! He’s the best! Huge SW fan here.
Anyway, I attribute my “young skin” to wearing sunscreen. When I was 34, I read an article about the effects of the sun. It said: 90% of aging comes from exposure to the sun. It was like an alarm went off in my head and since that day I wear sunscreen religiously. I am now 50. I am constantly told I do not look my age and it is true because I have spent the last 15 years taking my skincare very seriously. Like the old saying goes, you have to have good skin in order for your makeup to look good. Otherwise I just use good products and, like you, moisturizing is key.

    • Isabella Muse

Likewise! I live for SW ;-D SPF is def def def key to keeping your skin looking great!

  • Susan

You’ve got the face stuff covered, Muse. My advice to everyone is don’t forget your neck, earlobes, and hands. Especially hands. I have used Neutrogena daytime moisturizer (for face) with sunscreen on the backs of my hands every day for years, and at age 60 I have zero sun spots aka age spots or liver spots on them. I think spotted hands are extremely aging, and boy howdy, does my husband wish he had listened to me decades ago about wearing sunscreen.

      • Susan

Use a dab of sunscreen on your earlobes; skin cancer can appear there too. Also don’t wear earrings that are too heavy for too long. Just MHO.

    • Carol G

Susan, completely agree with the neck! Everyone neglects that. You see it all the time with the news anchors. Their faces are made up but then you see their necks and you can tell their age. Even actors. I always noticed that my whole life and always, always put sunscreen/skincare on down my neck (even the start of my cleavage – anything that is exposed to the sun basically). Then whatever is left, the residual, I rub on the back of my hands. Hands are dead giveaways too!

Well, I can’t really say how successful I’ve been, but a key for me is exfoliation! i adore alpha skincare’s revitalizing cream. It has 12% glycolic acid, plus some lightweight moisture. I also use philosophy’s microdelivery scrub once or twice a week. My skin gets super congested, so exfoliating makes it look smoother, and allows my natural oils to reach the surface.

I don’t really have a go-to moisturizer; I generally just smear on whatever is lying around. Oh! and sun… I tend to be a vampire/night owl, which seems to have paid off.

    • Isabella Muse

what skin type are you? I def agree exfoliating is fab for my skin but I can’t do it a lot otherwise it makes me drier 🙁 AMEN on sun! being a vampire has it’s youthful benefits ;D

      • Jules

I would say I’m combination? I tend to run a little oily in the summer, and drier in the winter. I’m 43, and so I run drier now than I did even 5 years ago… i never used to use moisturizer, so I’m just now exploring those–Sephora play keeps me pretty well stocked, so i can try to see what works best. But I get clogged pores like a mofo, so I have to exfoliate year round.

  • PDO

Retin-A ( takes care of fine lines and acne …..ya double duty bb)
Hada Labo Perfect Gel before moisturizer
Hadalabo Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Foam to cleanse
Cerave moisturizing cream or Cosrx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask as a moisturizer

Oh and of course SPF SPF SPF

I’m in my 30’s and I still have people mistake me for a teen and the only thing I can come up with is avoiding sun exposure like it’s the plague! I’m super fair, so I’ve been heavy on the sun screen since I was a pre teen (a few sunburns as a little kid convinced me that sunscreen was the best thing in the world), so I’ve been avoiding sun exposure long before it became common knowledge that sun damage was the #1 cause of aging skin. I do moisturize more these days, but it’s mostly to combat cystic acne. I recently discovered that plain old maracuja oil does wonders at keeping my skin moisturized and keeping those painful cysts away, and it’s fairly inexpensive to boot!

I wish the Belif didn’t have denatured alcohol in it. It has such a great ingredients list otherwise, but denatured alcohol just kills my skin. Burning and a red rash literally within seconds.

I have oily skin, which as someone who turns thirty next year I’m starting to appreciate. That said, I’ve found the texture and needs of my skin has changed a LOT over the past couple of years, and my laissez faire attitude towards skincare no longer cuts it. I’ve started using retinol products (RoC’s Correxion Sensitive Night Cream and Correxion Eye Cream) every other night, and a weekly lactic acid peel (Drunk Elephant’s TLC Sukari Babyfacial), both of which have made a huge difference wrt the appearance of my pores and fine lines on my forehead. Retinol also reduces (but not completely) my facial redness.

I’ve also learned to not be scared of facial oils, though I can’t wear them during the day – they just don’t seem to sink in quickly enough for me? Also, some are too greasy – I tried 100% argan oil, and it just sat on my face. I’m currently using Botanics (Boots brand) Organic Facial Oil, which primarily is a blend of sweet almond oil, rosehip oil, and argan oil, on the nights I don’t use a retinol cream. It’s been doing wonders for me – I always wake up with my dark circles greatly reduced, and glowy skin. However, it has citrus oils and essential oils in it, which I recently learned can be irritating; I haven’t personally had any issues (and I have pretty reactive skin), but I worry about becoming sensitized. Not sure if I’ll buy another bottle after this one runs out.

I guess I kind of look younger, but I always say not for the right reasons. I believe it’s all pretty hardwired, and I misfotunately got my dad’s skin. My mum’s was poreless and great, with no deep wrinkles, when she died. I am recovering from inverse psoriasis, that I was shocked, jumped from my pits to my face. Also have a yet incompletely diagnosed issue, even though I kicked it up to the best derm/rheumatologist in Boston. My dad also gave me the genes to keep my hair color…natural darker blond at 70. I’m usually mistaken for upper 40s to 50, and was hit on by a ~33 y.o. at night job. Skeeeevy. Dad was oily, and i’m still acne prone. Of COURSE I use those Cosrxs, after a boatload of BHA and the pha mist. Most of the year I use nothing richer than an essence. Use differin at night, with azelaic over; if feeling dryer (like now), seal with the Mizon snail gel. Because of the new deep lines (don’t have many fine) that I hope will clear (with effin steroids) I target with steroid, and Paula peptide booster, clinical ceramide, and Cosrx Balancium ceramide cream. I sheet mask a lot, but tolerate only a few. Also sleeping mask by day, some days at home. I’m reactive to so many things, that I spend inordinate time researching. Think I found out about my bible, Cosdna, here. My mum washed with no special product and moisturized with a milky product from Helena Rubinstein. God, was I envious. Skin is so tough.

  • Sera

I saw that Collagen Mist at my Mitsuwa but I put it down after I saw how much damage was in my cart LOL. (I’ll get it next time!)

Lately I’ve been layering my Hadalabo Gukujyun Premium and the Kikumasamune Hi-Moist Sake Lotion. I’ve been only washing my face with water in the morning because every type of cleanser strips my skin, and probably because I do an intensive double-cleanse before I shower the night before. =)

    • Isabella Muse

omg me too! I feel like I can not get the best double cleanse down without feeling tight after!

  • Moxie

    Sunscreen and hydration.

I drink nothing but water after a huge lifestyle change and wear sunscreen every day.

Also sheet masking every day, and using Vitamin C serum.

  • Dee

It’s definitely combination of many things like moisturizing, diet, exercise ,load of sleep, bla bla bla. For me diet+exercise+sleep seem impossible, LOL. But since I’ve added sunscreen to my daily habit (about 2 years now), I swear I can see the difference. It’s not like that 10 years younger looking but it makes my skin better.
My favorite sunscreens now are Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ (lotion) I use it as a primer before makeup, no white-cast, and very affordable. And second is Brush On Block SPF 30 (powder) hands down best convenience and quality powder. When buffing into skin, it’s flawless! I use this as a setting/touch-up/blotting powder. A bit pricey but worth it.

  • Chris

My beauty secret is choosing your parents. My parents looked always younger than their stated ages.

  • Ashley

Night Estee lauder advanced night repair serum ( it’s the 1 product I use religiously besides suncreen), then the ampoles $112, followed by a moisturizer on top. For colder weather at night I put creme de la Mer moisturizing creme on top to lock in the moisture. Day: anti aging serum followed by a moisturizer w/ spf 30 and then bb cream.

  • Ricci

You are not going going to like this but the majority of the reason why my skin is young looking is because I never once worn foundation. I started a strict skin cleanse at the age of 20 I’m now 48 and I look around 35 or younger. I wash my face with organic cleanser (Eminence) and mask several times a month I am now using Alya & Eminence.

    • Isabella Muse

I totally believe that! in some ways I wish I never wore makeup at all and just relied on skincare to look my best!

  • Elise

This is a tricky question…because my thoughts immediately went to my healthy habits as being a contributor for looking younger…being physically fit, drinking water, not smoking, getting enough sleep. 😉

Skincare – If I only knew then what I know now!!!

I keep the sun off my face and wear sunscreen. At age 50 and having naturally tan skin, hyper-pigmentation and age spots are already plaguing me. This summer I bought and wore the biggest, floppiest hat ever. Hey it might look silly, but it worked!

I am a long time fan of the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair line for both eyes and face. Vitamin C helps with pigmentation and scars.

For years, I battled oily skin and that too I think has helped with staving off deep wrinkles. I also think my maintenance Retin-A prescription (for acne) has helped with wrinkle control as well.

Moisturizer – There is hylauronic acid in many of the other products I use, so I really don’t use a full face product. I do use a cream about my eyes.

Finally, I also figure in my genetics. All of the women on my mother’s side of the family looked youthful into old age. I am very fortunate! 🙂 Of course I would always like to look young, but I am also okay with aging gracefully.

  • Kris

My Mom used to say there are 2 types of aging skin: sinkers and saggers. Sinkers are wrinkly and saggers lose firmness and have drooping eyes, jowls, etc. I am definitely a sagger.

My fave moisture products are the Belif ones and Dr. Jart+ ceramidin line. I have oily skin and those hydrate and plump my skin without being greasy.

    • Isabella Muse

I feel like a sagger lately too! like the skin at the side of my jaw doesn’t look as plump that worries me!

  • Magenta Wilde

Staying out of the sun. Not smoking. Those are huge. I’ve got products I like but my favorite is an Egyptian Magic dupe that’s great in winter. Then some exfoliating peels and something to reduce age and acne spots. The last two tend to vary.

    • Ricci

I smoke & I tan & I have very young looking skin & no wrinkles @ the age of 48. Skin care is important. It makes a huge difference

    • Isabella Muse

I rarely venture out of using Allie Extra UV 🙂 It’s def my fav!

  • Brandy

Olay SPF 30 for sensitive skin, Clinique moisture surge spray, Clinique moisture surge concentrate, Clinique moisture surge overnight mask, sometimes the CeraVe gel oil, and Mary Kay men’s eye cream (stole it from the bf). For the record I have very dry, red, sensitive skin. Don’t know if it’ll keep me looking younger, but it helps my dry skin.

  • Jodi J

I’m 54 but I’ve been asked how old I am. They usually guess mid 40s. lol! After cleansing my skin every morning with Garnier Miceller Cleansing Water , I use Clinique Moisture Surge then Simple Hydrating Moisturizer on top of it. I’ve been using that combination for years on my very dry skin.

  • Britni

Omg there’s so many skin care treats I keep in constant rotation! Dr. Jart’s Microdermabrasion for exfoliation, Pixi’s Glow Tonic and Glow Mud Cleanser (smells JUST LIKE a spa!!), Glam Glow anti aging mask (the silver peel off one), any kind of tissue mask for moisture, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Moisture Gel for under my make up, Fig and Yarrow Rosehip & Argan oil for nightly use. I change a lot of others things but those I run out and buy before I even run out!

  • Leslie Babineaux

I use Lancome skin products and I am very loyal to the brand for skincare and also foundation. I use their foaming cleanser, Genefique serum, Renergie moisturizer and Renergie foundation. The Genefique serum greatly smoothes lines and the moisturizer and foundation plumps and firms. In my opinion, Lancome has the best skincare. ❤

Smile and run from the sun!

Let me tell you. Genetics is everything. Up to 38… I still passed for a 20-22 girl and people that knew me for some time always asked what I did to look young. That was because I was doing… nothing! Just wash the face with my green clay soap and that is that. That was when I was bitten by the makeup bug.

Yeah! The definition of late bloomer was updated with success (44 now). .

I started taking care of my skin because of the makeup I was using, but nothing extraordinaire. Clean with my green clay soap for my oily skin, glycolic toner and moisturizer at first. Sunscreen in the mornings. Nowadays, I incorporated glycolic acid 15% (neostrata), Sephora Mud mask (this is so much better than Glam Glow) and peptide serum (the ordinary).

In the eyes, I use a peptide serum from Biossance and a moistturizer only at night.

  • val

I have very oily skin. It has been both a curse and a blessing. It is really hard to find a foundation that lasts on me without looking super greasy. However, I’m convinced the oily skin has helped keep wrinkles at bay now that I’m in my 40s, so… Silver lining.

I also started using heavy duty night cream when I was in my 20s and I think that helped too.

What is helping now is that I totally cleanse my face as soon as I get home from work and put on rose hip oil or a good moisturizer. Then I wash again before bed (with a Clarisonic) and put on night cream. Every time I find a good night cream, though, it gets discontinued! So I’m constantly on the hunt for a new HG.

  • Anie

Exfoliation seems to work, then again I’m of the group of people who is always assumed to be 10 years younger than I am. Yay for Italian/Portuguese genetics.
