Etude House #Caffeine Holic Play Color Eyes ($15) is a new Fall 2018 10-pan eyeshadow palette that released in Korea a few weeks ago and has become a rather big hit across the K-Beauty makeup community. I think in general when a new Play Color Eyes Eyeshadow Palette releases it can stir up some excitement but it feels like Caffeine Holics went viral rather quickly! Such a wide variety of Asian Instagrammers, youTubers, and bloggers seem to be talking about it.

As for me, well, Play Color Eyes and I have a love hate relationship! I have almost every one that Etude House has released and I’ll bitch and moan the formula but I’ll also rave about what killer eye looks I can get from them. It’s a very unusual romance I have with these palettes.

As for Etude House #Caffeine Holic Play Color Eyes, well, read my review to see my feelings!

Etude House #Caffeine Holic Play Color Eyes is actually a retake on Etude House’s In the Cafe Color Eyes Eyeshadow Palette that launched a year or two ago. This version is quite a good deal warmer and I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate saying this but the shades sort of remind me of Urban Decay Naked Heat as they lean towards being more orange-y. I love oranges so, yeah, this is sort of my ideal Fall color palette. That being said, I wouldn’t say these are as fiery as anything that can be found in Naked Heat and looking at the palette you’ll be all, “What the hell is she talking about?” because honestly, there isn’t a lot of orange here. But certain shades once blended together they seem to go a bit fallen leaf looking on me….! Plus other shades have a bit of an orange undertone. That’s why I said I hate comparing this to Naked Heat 🙂 but it’s just the looks you can get are along the lines of what you’d get in a softer version of Naked Heat if that makes any sense! On the other hand though there a few cooler shades as well like a pretty shimmer taupe that I did a look with below.

As you can see the palette is adorable with a line up of different coffee drinks gracing the front (how freaking awesome would it be if they scented like coffee?). Inside you’ll find a nicely sized mirror as well as two dual eyeshadow applicators for application. Typically Etude House has a plastic film over the top with the names in printed in both Hangul and English however, this time around the names are in Hangul only and I’ve been unable to find the names anywhere in English! I’m not sure if any of these shades repeats! I know none of them appeared in the In the Cafe Palette but I’m not sure if any appeared anywhere else as I haven’t compared all of my Play Color Eyes Palette. They seem new to me but don’t hold quote me on that.

The palette is made up of an even number of shimmer and matte finish shades. Typically I get on great with the shimmery shades but I tend to complain about the mattes in the Play Color Eyes Palettes. However, this time around I was fairly happy with both the shimmers and the mattes. I wouldn’t say the matte formula is soft or silky but it does blend very well and it isn’t dry nor patchy! The shimmers were great as well with a soft, easy to apply texture that didn’t have any fall out issues. All the shades had very good pigmentation!

I was happy with Etude House #Caffeine Holic Play Color Eyes and was very glad I purchased it. It’s a very Fall friendly palette that I’ll likely get tons of use out of and I do recommend checking it out if you like shades like this!

If you own it I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!

Where to buy

Ebay

Etude House #Caffeine Holic Play Color Eyes is a new Fall 2018 palette that contains a mix of ten shimmer and matte eyeshadows in shades inspired by coffee. The palette and I got along very well! The mattes aren’t the softest nor the silkiest but they applied and blended well as did the shimmers which had absolutely no fall out. I also felt all the shades had great pigmentation.

Pros

  • Beautiful assortment of Fall friendly shades.
  • Very nicely formulated compared to past Play Color Eyes Palettes.

Cons

  • Mattes aren’t the softest nor the silkiest around!
  • Ships from Korea so stalking the mailman is required.

Verrry pretty, and both looks are great on you. Agree about the UD vibe. On my monitor, it kind of echoes Naked 3.

So many pretty shades! I’m still working through the makeup I have right now, but I’ll have to keep this one in mind–I love that it was inspired by coffee! :]

    The colors do look lovely.
Is the formula significantly better than the original In the Cafe palette?

    • Isabella Muse

It is to me! I think Cafe is WAY drier! I have a love/hate relationship with play color eyes! Sometimes they aren’t the best but I can get such great looks from them I tend to overlook the poor formula! I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by Caffeine Holic though! The formula seems better!
