Which Makeup Brands Would You Like To Hear More About?

Did you know you can search by brand on my site? Look all the way on the top menu bar on the right hand side after my logo and there’s a brand drop down which allows you to search popular brands or sort them in alphabetical order! You can also filter your results to look for reviews from one particular brand should you want!

Just go to the review menu, click the review item you’d like to see, now use the drop down filter to sort all the blushes you want from a particular brand.

This reminds me I’ve been meaning to ask which makeup brands would you like to hear more about? Is their a particular brand you’d like to see featured and reviewed more? I think I cover a pretty extensive assortment of brands but I’d love to hear which brands you think need more coverage!

Let me know!

Hi Muse, long-time reader here! (Since ~2010)
Your site used to have a search bar where you could type anything in such as a specific product or keyword. I noticed that that functionality is no longer available (or at least that I can find). Could you add that back into the site?
Also, to answer your question: The Ordinary, Farmacy, Catrice, Clinique, Pacifica.
Thanks for everything you do and have a wonderful day! 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Emily! Thanks for reading so long! the search box is still there! Right on the menu bar there’s a little magnifying glass, click it, and a box opens you can use to search ;-D I cover a lot of Farmacy/Catrice/Clinique already as well as some Pacifica too ;-D see the archives but will def incorporate more into my reviews! ;-D as well as more Ordinary!

      • Emily B

Oh my goodness. I see it now, it shows up below all of the menu options and on a small screen you have to scroll down after opening the menu to see it. Thanks for the help!

  • Lee

Also could you please please please write where the products you review are made and who the umbrella company is such as Estee Lauder, Elizabeth Arden, Lancom

Thanks and I love the sale postings!

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Lee! Thanks for the feedback. I have quite a lot of k-beauty coverage including all the brands you listed! Did you see the beauty abroad section: https://www.musingsofamuse.com/category/beauty-abroad <---all brands featured are alphabetical listed! 😀 including Etude House, Tony Moly, Skin Food, Holika Holika, etc...! When I review a product I make sure I include where the product is made however, I don't always include the umbrella company! Will try to do that! I'll take your suggestion on all the brands you listed as those are brands I don't commonly feature (melt, sugarpill, etc...)!

  • Dee

It’s not a makeup brand but I would love to see something about Clarisonic. Are they discontinuing their Mia 2?

  • Adrienne

Muse I think you do a great job at covering a wide variety of brands (makeup and skincare). The benefit is that you introduced me to a lot of brands that were VERY good that I was unaware of and in covering the high ends that I was considering because of marketing you said save your money. I can’t think of anything to add or remove as you have a good balance.

    • Isabella Muse

EXCELLENT ONE! I really need to try more their stuff thanks for the suggestion!

  • Kish

You do an amazing job of covering so many things in this ever-expanding beauty world. The only brand I could think of is Bad Habit Beauty, but I know some people aren’t interested in them since they dupe other brands. I really appreciate your hard work and honest reviews. As much as I enjoy Instagram, I feel like most of the reviews aren’t honest. People just sucking up to brands who send them free stuff. Or send them on trips. So, thanks again 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

Aw thanks Kish <3! I don't even know who Bad Habit Beauty is I'm going to google ;-D haha! <3 xoxo!

  • Dot

Love the variety of things you cover on here; I love that your blog is not cookie cutter or chasing every trendy palette or brand (which I find pretty tiresome), and I’m so grateful that your reviews are honest! I’d love to see more natural/clean skincare picks, and if you’ve got the budget for it, it’d be lovely to hear your opinion on some higher end pieces and how the drugstore dupes compare!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks Dot! ;-D Sure! Will try to incorporate more higher end! I started this blog on higher end brands but it evolved into more of a budget blog ;-D will def starting including more of my higher end purchases!

  • Chris

    Hi Muse,

You do a great job at covering numerous brands (drugstore & various store brands (Ulta & Sephora) in addition to many other cosmetic lines. Maybe less focus on the obviously geared to tweens/teenagers lines & more to the established lines seen in department stores. I don’t really see an emphasis on many fragrances, (yes, that could get expensive to test) but the ones you do cover are okay with me (B&BW for example).

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Chris! Which would you say are geared towards tween/teens? Like Too Faced? Tarte? I’m actually a massive fragrance fan and have a rather huge collection of perfumes but I rarely review as I’m always scared I’ll bore people silly with perfume reviews plus I’m not an expert on notes ;-D But I’d love to do more perfume reviews for sure! Sometimes I feel like I love fragrance more than makeup! But also, some of the fragrances I like are $200+ dollars and sometimes that isn’t always in everyone’s budget and I end up getting a bit backlash for the cost of a bottle. I misted myself with La Danza delle Libellule this morning and I was so compelled to write a review about it but the $130 price tag had me second guessing if anyone wanted to read it!!!!! Likewise, for Tom Ford Lost Cherry! I feel like my target audience is more about drugstore/budget makeup versus perfume! However, I will totally try to do more fragrance reviews if more people are interested! I KNOW I’m interested in writing more of them ;-D and also, hearing what others thing of certain scents I love!

      • Grace

I love Chris’ suggestion about fragrance….and I would LOVE to hear your reviews of high end scents! Please do more of them!

        • Isabella Muse

I am overjoyed so many people are replying about wanting to hear fragrance reviews ;-D because I’d really love to do them! I have a massive collection and I’d love to share it some of it on here!

      • Dot

I’d love to hear your thoughts on perfume! I love perfume, and I rely pretty heavily on reading Fragrantica for people’s general thoughts before I purchase a scent; your thoughts would also be helpful!

        • Isabella Muse

YAY! ;-D another for fragrance ;-D I’d love to do more! Truly! I just don’t want to bore anyone! ;-D I’m going to do more in 2019 for sure!

          • kjh

Indeed, Isabella. You write fragrance so well. Who cares if we can’t afford/decide not to save for/whatever. My fave notes could be the opposite from your gourmand, and I still gobble up every word. Pun intended. One can infer, based on how well a fragrance designer does a gourmand or fruity, how well they might do on a white or yellow floral, or an outdoorsy, air or water scent. I understand that your rep is based largely on DS m/u reviews, but you do AB/KB so beautifully, both s/c and color cos. I would not mind reading about BPAL, or Martriarch, or Santa Maria Novella, rather than the next installment from tf, and whether Jerrod is digging another hole, or filling it in. You are smart and insightful. Don’t feel limited by what has traditionally been your forte.

          • Chris

Yes, I would say Two Faced is geared for tweens & teens.
On the other question, fragrance is subjective, what one person loves, another will say, ‘yuk!’
Most times if I see a fragrance in a store, I will sample it & walk away. If it lasts for 5 hours on me, I consider that a great fragrance. Then I will buy it. Bath & Body Works has lower priced fragrances that might be interesting to review.

          • Isabella Muse

Thanks for the feedback! I actually review Bath & Body Works fragrances already here and there ;-D

  • Grace

Honestly, I think you do an AMAZING job of providing content for us!

I would love to see more Pat McGrath coverage, on all her products really but especially your take on her shadows.

    • Isabella Muse

Grace, for sure! I’d avoided Pat in the past just due to price as many people that read here prefer budget options but I’d love to include more Pat coverage for sure ;-D her stuff is amazing!!!!!!! thanks for the feedback!

  • Hannah

I’d like to hear more about cruelty-free brands. It was a great victory for Covergirl to go cruelty-free and perhaps by setting this example it can empower beauty influencers to send out the message that it’s totally possible to create great cosmetics without animal testing! In this era especially, when product sales are so contingent upon social media, bloggers/vloggers are testing products all the time! By now we should know what’s safe for human interaction and what’s not.

    • Isabella Muse

Will do my best to do more CF brands Hannah! ;-D thanks for the suggestion!

  • Carol G

Muse, I see a lot of comments about doing perfume reviews, but for me I actually don’t read them when you do them. Perfume is a deeply personal beauty product and what one person likes another finds smelly. Plus the fact that body chemistry plays a crucial part in perfume smell. Case in point: Clinique’s Aromatics Elixir. Ask 100 people their opinion on it and 90 out of 100 will say it smells like bug spray or a funeral home (these are actual things people said as I used to work the Clinique counter) but the other 10 will buy it and say “I absolutely LOVE this perfume and get so many compliments when wearing it”.

Just my two cents, and it’s fine if you do more perfume posts, after all it’s YOUR blog. You should do what you want. But some of us just like makeup posts only. And that’s cool too. I just skip over what doesn’t interest me. Just like any Tom Ford posts (whether it’s your blog or another) I skip because I cannot and will not pay his obscene prices for makeup.
Same with anything Kardashian related. I just skip to the next post. No big deal.

That being said, you are my very favorite blog. I check it numerous times a day and actually I think it’s fine just the way it is. It has a fine balance of drugstore, mid-range and high-range posts. All I would ask is if you ever decide to stop, just put out a final post letting us all know. There’s nothing worse than following a blog for years and then one day the person just stops posting and you wonder what happened.

    Cheers!

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Carol! This is actually a reason I don’t cover fragrance and another is price as I tend to like a lot of niche brands which are quite expensive and many people have expressed that paying that much for perfume is obscene. A lot of people do in fact come here for the makeup posts and many enjoy budget makeup brands versus higher end which I do concentrate on a good deal. I appreciate the feedback! I might do a fragrance review in the future here and there and hopefully it doesn’t bug you too much and like you said you can just skip reading it ;-D Oh gosh I’d never do that! That would be horrible! I’ve been doing this 10 plus years and I hope to do it 10 plus more! ;-D

      • Christina

Totally silly of me, but because I can’t wear most perfume, I actually read your perfume posts and imagine what it would be like if I could. Haha! I usually go to the store after your review and test them. No, I never bring them home, but I like to at least try them just in case I need to buy one for a friend or family member who is into niche fragrances.

    • Silvia

I second every word you said Carol G. makes perfect sense to me also. I like Muse page as it is already she covers from drugstore to Asian beauty to high end. I will never purchase a thing from either the Kardashians or Patrick Star just no. Fragrances are highly personal best way to decide is truly by sniffing some. My mom says the smell of roses remind her of funerals. Lol! Reviewing fragtances is a challenge what some love others might hate even get a migraine! I’d love the idea of dupes that’ll be great. I’m thinking of breaking my piggy bank and giving my daughter a Pat McGraph eyeshadow palette on her birthday. Between Pat and Tom Ford is a great way to go flat broke within seconds but their presentation knocks my socks off. Awww so pretty (I never buy them just way too much! I’m a hardcore drugstore person and happy with my stash) and the tinsel on T. Ford items. Another great blog I follow is Temptalia. Both of this have this beauty junkie addicted.
Thanks so much for all your research Muse & Happy New Year to all the beauties in this wonderful page!

  • Chrissie Dyson

Revolution now do skincare that is similar to and cheaper than The Ordinary, well worth looking at.

  • Tiff

Hi Muse! Thanks for asking! I think you do have a great variety on your blog already. If I had to add something it would be more reviews on higher end prestige and luxury brands. .. but it just may be that I’m so over Tarte, Too Faced, and Urban and am looking for some new brands to love.

  • Kat

MAKE Beauty! They’re indie, based in Brooklyn, and 10% of sales are donated to the We See Beauty Foundation, a non-profit organization promoting equitable social and economic change through the incubation and acceleration of women-led, worker-owned cooperative businesses throughout the Americas!

  • Christina

    Hi Muse,

I totally get why you don’t do it too often because it’s not as accessible for people, but I’d love some more reviews on Japanese or other Asian countries makeup that you pick up. It’s always nice to see what else is out there, and I know several items can be purchased online nowadays.

    • Isabella Muse

This is exactly why I don’t do it I love that you are so attentive that you realize that ;-D You know me, I LOVE my Japanese makeup and my Korean skincare (and makeup) but I got so many rants about how hard it was to get I decided I’d do less reviews. That saddens me because I really started this blog on two things, high-end makeup and Japanese/Korean beauty but I rarely feature either lately and they are both things I really love :-/ I’m glad to see you and a few others mention wanting to hear more about Asian Beauty as I will def start doing more ;-D I just purchased EH Piglet, because I couldn’t resist, and will be reviewing those items shortly as well as a few items I got from Japan recently as well ;-D

      • Christina

Awesome! If it becomes too much, I can always private message/text you for thoughts and recommendations, but I find that it’s a lot easier than it was back then to find these items on the internet now. There are so many sellers!

Ooh, the Piglet collection! I feel like I need to pick something up because the Pig is my year. HAHA! Actually, the Innissfree Rosy Piggy Palette from the Toy Story collection also caught my eye. So many pigs! I can’t buy them all!

        • Isabella Muse

ALWAYS any time at all email/text me whatever ;-D I’ll happy rec! But I am def going to do my best to start reviewing the latest Japanese/Korean launches ;-D I was happy to see so many people asking for beauty abroad reviews ;-D OMG is it!? ;D Haha that’s a sign you do NEED all the piggie things ;-D That palette caught my eye too btw!

  • Christina

I never hear alot about Burberry makeup and maybe Givenchy, Giorgio Armani, more chanel. Thanks.

  • Susan K

I feel like you cover a great mix of brands and products! It would be fun to see some more indie brands here and there like Sydney Grace, Rituel de Fille, etc. Oh, and you cant ever stop doing this blog! I’ve visited everyday since at least 2010, maybe earlier. You make my happy days even brighter, cheer me up when I’m low, and are just such a part of my regular routine I would really miss you if you went away!

  • Ale

I love your blog, and really appreciate the reviews of drugstore releases, as those are generally accessible to me in Canada. All the posts about Ulta sales just make me sad (no Ulta here!), but I can understand those are helpful to a majority of your readers.
I would love to see more reviews of Japanese makeup and Korean skincare. It is becoming easier to find products even out here in the frozen north, but it is hard to find reviews.

  • Catherine

    Hi Muse,
Just to add to the other posts regarding fragrance, I agree, please do more of them! I never wore fragrance prior to reading your blog and I now own an extensive collection including Clean Reserve (almost all of their scents), many BPALs, several Juliette has a gun, Love Potion Magickal Perfumerie is a favorite source (have you tried Glacé au Cafe? I love it), a couple of Kilian perfumes, and many others I cannot think of right now. Without your blog, I would never have known about the world of fragrance (which lead to exploring of my own) and I would have missed out on how much fun it is to play with different scents. Thank you so much for your blog and honest reviews (with hopefully more fragrance reviews )!

Happy New Year, may 2019 bring you continued happiness, love and success!

    • Isabella Muse

omg that’s awesome Catherine! I’m so so glad to hear this! I never tried Glace au Cafe but sounds totally me! Ordering it right now haha! Happy New Year my dear! I wish the same for you and thank you for this amazing comment ;-D made my day reading it!

  • Gabrielle

Maybe Sydney Grace Co and Makeup Geek (once they finish their rebranding). I would love to see your opinion and swatches of their single eyeshadows to see if they are actually any good. You could also do a ‘build your own palette’ from Colourpop. I think it would be interesting to see comparisons against single eyeshadow formulas from the brands and what colors you would choose to build your own palette from each brand. ☺

    • Isabella Muse

never heard of sydney grace co will google ;-D and that sounds like a great idea thanks for the feedback!

    • Isabella Muse

will def take note but I can’t promise less drugstore brands as a lot of people really love those!

  • Emm

Hi Muse, I agree with one of the previous commentators that I miss the reviews of products from Asian countries, the difference from US beauty is really interesting even if I rarely go out of my way to buy them. And now to sound contradictory, I would really love it if you could review sunscreens from the US that are readily available and work well with makeup. Thanks for all of the reviews your do!

    • Isabella Muse

Emm, I actually feel really bad how little I feature Japanese makeup and Korean beauty anymore. A lot of the comments/feedback/emails I got were complaining items were hard to get/etc so I stopped doing them as often as I once did which saddens me as I have a great love of Asian beauty. I’ll def start doing more reviews as I’m seeing a lot of feedback on this post saying people miss them which delights me ;-D Girl, I WISH I had good reviews of US sunscreens but I tend to hate them :-/ I’ll def do more though! My pleasure! thanks for reading them!

  • Kim Marietta

IT Cosmetics…. everything about the items… benefits for women over 50! 😉

  • Kim Marietta

I’d LOVE to know what products (makeup & Skincare) for women over 50…..
My problem is visible spider veins on my cheeks & large pores plus I am fair neutral!!!

  • Brenda Lifsey

    Hi Muse,
I have been a reader for several years. I like your balance of reviews, but would like to you to review high-end/luxury makeup and skin care, Korean and Japanese Beauty and skincare, also beauty and skincare from other countries, New Zealand, Australia, Sweden, Italy, Greece, etc. I don’t mind the high-end perfume reviews. Also updated reviews of past products. I did send you update review request to you by email,
Happy New Year and to another 10 years!

    • Isabella Muse

Brenda I love your suggestion for Italy and Australia/New Zealand as I have a few makeup brands I love from italy and some skincare lines from down under I love ;-D I’ll try to get those posted up for you! I’ll start doing more luxury beauty!!!!!!!!! as well as Korean/Japan. I feel badly that I let those two categories fall out a bit! I’m sorry I probably got it but my inbox is crazy sometimes! Can you tell me which item you wanted an updated review on!? Happy New Year and yes, I hope so 😀 I’d love to be here ten more!

  • Melissa

While I read virtually all of your posts b/c I just like to be informed about things, and I am more than happy to skip over things that aren’t particularly of interest to me, I am most interested in seeing more high end makeup and japanese/korean brands. I wear mosty mid-to-higher end products in terms of skincare and makeup, and i value your input on large purchases and/or hard to find products the most; I don’t mind so much if I hate an inexpensive product. And you have totally converted me when it comes to the asian skincare!!!! And while I typically don’t wear drugstore products, I always like to see what’s out there, and if i’m really unsure about a “trend,” I’d like to try it out inexpensively first (I’d rather spend $8 vs $24 learning that lime green is not my color!!). Also – sometimes you throw out a drugstore product that totally wins me over: case in point the Pond’s Cleansing Balm. I was a Clinique cleansing balm junkie (IT too but clinique was a better value) but after your review, i grabbed two of the pond’s on a buy one/get one CVS sale and OMG I love it even MORE than the Clinique or IT balms. So, keep doing what you do, for sure!!!

    • Isabella Muse

Hi melissa thanks for the feedback ;-D Def including more higher end for the new year as well as Asian beauty (korean and japanese)! Thanks for the feedback and so so so glad you liked the Pond’s Cleansing Balm!!!!!!!

  • Natalie

I personally am very strongly fragrance-free (one person’s love is another person’s asthma attack or migraine) so I am only interested in make-up or skincare reviews, but I like how your reviews are now and can just skip anything that doesn’t interest me. I do like the drugstore focus. I’m actually hesitant to purchase high end than drugstore, but high end returns are usually fuss free, and drugstore returns are more of a hassle even if the staff is nice. I really think hard before a drugstore purchase and appreciate those reviews!

    • Isabella Muse

I feel you! I was very ill in October with a bad cough that lasted for a month. I was on meds but it just wasn’t going anywhere! Anyway, I’m better now BUT I still have a tiny little bit of that cough left over and I have to say since getting sick fragrance has been bad to me. I typically LOVE perfume! loving smelling it, love using it, love collecting it, but for some reason I’ve become a bit sensitive since that cold and now when I mist myself I find myself choking a bit. I was going to go to the doctor’s and having a breathing test done just in case! I’m not asthmatic but I do wonder if that cold did any damage. Don’t worry, they’ll always be drugstore reviews ;-D

  • Jennifer Fong

    Hello Muse,
I’d love it if you could review the Pola line from Japan. Especially the new BA line. It’s very hard to find any info (ingredient lists and reviews) on it. I want to know if it’s worth the search.
Thanks for your blog! Love it!

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Jennifer! oh ouch! You go big girl ;-D B.A. The Mask is on my wish list! I have quite pulled the trigger on that one yet ;-D If I do, I promise I’ll be on here raving it (or ranting the fact I spent so much lol). Thank you so much for reading it xoxoxoxoxo!

  • LAURI

Love your blog. Thanks for doing all that you do. I would like to see more high end stuff myself because I made a vow to myself I would start investing in more high end products. Love to see more skincare. Thanks for allowing us to give our input.

    • Isabella Muse

you got it! ;-D <3! thank YOu for sharing your feedback! It's very helpful!

  • Cassie

Maybe some more Colourpop, and Pacifica”? Definitely certified cruelty-free brands”!

  • Heather

Honestly I’m on a tight budget so I enjoy all your sale posts and drug store opinions! I’d love to see more budget friendly brands like catrice make up revolution bad habit beauty etc

  • Heather Barber

I desperately need a photo of your vanity table and makeup storage!

  • Linda

    Hi Muse,
I’m surprised to hear that people really like the drugstore/budget reviews, as I tend to skip over them. Maybe the drugstore folks are just more vocal?
I never wore perfume before, but your review of zoologist perfumes from Canada inspired me, and I bought samples of their entire line!
I love the medium to higher end makeup and skin care reviews. I’m at a point in my life where I’d rather buy one great product rather than 3 so-so products.
Having said that, I’d like you to review every single one of The Ordinary products, as I’m hearing great things about them despite their low price.
Thanks for all you do – I LOVE your blog

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Linda! I was never much of a drugstore girl but drugstore makeup has evolved and there are quite a lot of good quality makeup out there that doesn’t cost a ton ;-D I def cover it because it’s a popular topic in the makeup world but I’m going to aim for more higher end as well ;-D Oh my gosh awesome! Did you like them? I agree!!! I’d rather buy one really expensive mascara versus three really cheap bad ones! Totally with you on that because weeding through drugstore makeup to get to the good stuff can be expensive! I’ll def review some of the Ordinary but there are some items that I don’t really need or won’t work for my skin type but I will def review ones I try and I like if that helps ;-D thank YOU!!!!! xoxo 🙂 I’m always so glad to hear that! <3!
