Metallic eyes and luminous cheeks are back for Spring 2019 and I’m having a melt down about how to best achieve them. Seriously, I shouldn’t be allowed within 5 feet of a highlighter! I’m just too heavy handed with them and that age old saying of “You can see my highlighter from space” becomes a serious reality for me. Getting the perfect luminous glow can be a difficult task for some (like me!). Likewise, for getting a perfect metallic eye look without looking too sparkly or frosty.

I round up a few tricks and makeup hacks I use to get the metallic eye and luminous cheek look for Spring that might help you out.

Take a look!

Most important rule of highlighter club is get your facial mist out. I have dry skin which means highlighter can look cakey or cling to drier areas on my face. I haul out your Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray to tackle this issue. First, apply your highlighter with a fiber brush! Fiber brushes are a god sent if you’re heavy handed. The bristles only pick up a very small amount of powder which results in a lighter application. Still feeling like you went overboard? No problem! Pick up a paddle brush like the Real Technique’s Blend + Blur Contour Brush and gently buff in the highlighter. You’ll not only sheer and tone down the spotlight on your highlighter but you’ll also have a smoother finish! Now, the most important part to your glow! Time to mist yourself.

Yes, I know. This is always the step I dread. I think some of you feel the same way! I always feel like I’m ruining my makeup when I apply any type of setting spray but the good news is Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray sets really fast and the formula is a fine mist. A quick mist will depowder the look of highlighter and gives the final finish a much smoother look. Not to mention the addition of liquid intensifies the glow of your highlighter. Seriously, when in doubt with highlighter reach for a setting spray. It really depowders the completed look and gives it a much more natural finish that’s less “I’m wearing makeup!” and more “I woke up with this glow!”.

If you need a highlighter rec especially if you’re a newbie try out Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter. I love Becca’s formula! It’s not only produces a beautiful glow but the formula is easy to work with.

And when all else fails…

Turn to a blush that acts like a highlighter! NARS Orgasm Blush is a perfect way to get gorgeous color and a gorgeous glow on your cheeks without the hassle or know how of highlighter application! I’m wearing it below! See? Insta-glow! No mess!

Moving on the metallic eyes another tricky issue for me. I might be alone in this but metallics tend to look frosty on me. I either get formulas that are too sparkly or too frosty. I’m all about the sparkle, that’s fine! But the frost I can’t deal with. The eliminate the frost issue or the sparkly one there’s a few makeup hacks that might help.

First off, try a cream eyeshadow. Stila’s Glitter & Glow Eyeshadow will give you all the metallic you can handle as well as a gorgeous sparkle without the frost factor. Speaking of which cream eyeshadows are great to tone down the frost factor on powders too. Apply your cream eyeshadow and proceed to follow up by applying your powder metallic eyeshadow on top. The cream acts as a base for the powder and not only intensifies the look but it’ll tone down the frost factor in a major way. I always feel like metallics look WAY better with a cream eyeshadow under them! If you’re using Stila’s formula for this job you can also reverse things and apply your powder first and gently top the look with a little Glitter & Glow Eyeshadow for extra sparkle!

You can also pair eyeshadow finishes! That always works SO well for me when it comes to metallic eyes. Apply a matte shade first and accent it with a bit of metallic eyeshadow. The new Essence Yes, Eye Can Eyeshadow Palette I was talking about this week has a combination of 24 eyeshadows in matte and metallic finishes that make it way easy to try out this trick.

If you want a softer metallic look Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Eyeshadow Palette is a great pick up! The shadows are really refined so you get that metallic sheen but no frost and no major sparkle. They are really easy to work with giving eyes a beautiful accent of metal with overkilling the look!

Revlon also has a new Crystal Aura Collection that launched at Ulta.com that has some interesting products to achieve a metallic and glowing cheeks everything! The Crystal Aura Collection Glow Gelée Highlighter is infused with rose quartz and has a jelly texture for easy application.

Do you have any cool tips and tricks for perfect metallic eyes and flawless highlighter application?

But remember, you can always Create Your Own Beauty Trend! Spring might be about metallic eyes and glowy cheeks but it doesn’t have to be. Pair up the products and looks you like best to create your own unique trend for Spring looks! The best rule of thumb with makeup trends comes from the late great Cass Elliot when she sung her heart out and said, “Sing your own special song, make your own kind of music even if nobody else sings along.” If you like nude lips and a natural look for Spring DO IT! If you want a bold, fierce aqua eyeshadow look GO WITH IT! Creating your own beauty trend is where the real fun is!

Do share them!
