5 stars out of 5

Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture So Extra Drenched Hydration Buttery Conditioner ($22) is a new deep conditioner that I recently purchased at Sephora. The name drew me in because when I was like 12 I wrote an essay on Madam C.J. Walker. See? Even way back I was obsessed with beauty! Madam C.J. Walker was a political and social activist but also, an African American business woman who sold developed and sold her own line of hair care around 1905. Now, Madam Walker has long since left us but this hair care line is inspired by her.

Madam C.J. Walker Beauty was created for those with textured hair but I have drier, very wavy hair and never had a problem using brands like Carol’s Daughter, Shea Moisture, etc…! I always find the formulas rich yet gentle on my hair!

Speaking of gentle, this formula is SUPER gentle!

Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture So Extra Drenched Hydration Buttery Conditioner arrives in a 9 oz chubby pump jar. It’s formulated for girls or guys with curly, coily, or wavy hair. It contains peach nectar that acts to deeply hydrate hair.

You can use it after shampooing as a deep mask or as your conditioner. The formula is super thick and has a butter-like texture but it melts down super quickly once applied to hair. You can be really generous with this formula as it melts down very easily and rinses clean away not to mention it leaves behind ZERO build up in my experience with it. I was concerned the formula was too thick and I’d have issues rinsing it completely out. I was also worried that it would cause build up which might lead to my hair breaking. I shed like a cat in the shower and after using this, combing it through, and rinsing it out I swear I didn’t lose one strand of hair in the process.

It has a very light fragrance that’s sort of peachy but not really. It smells like the skin of a peach if that makes sense. Sort of a warm fuzzy, slightly peach fragrance.

Oddly enough, it isn’t super duper intensely hydrating. It leaves my hair soft and smooth but not necessarily super hydrated! But I’m ok with that because my hair still looks amazing after I use it and it seems like I have less tangles and knots after using it.

All in all, a very nice conditioner that doesn’t cause build up or breakage!

Worthy of a checkout for those with breakage issues or who hate build up.

One of her descendants developed the new line. Sadly, its a bit too upscale for my current finances.
