Anastasia Jackie Aina Eyeshadow Palette is a new, limited edition 14 shade eyeshadow palette that was created in collaboration with Anastasia Beverly Hills and youTube Beauty Guru, Jackie Aina. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to pick up the Anastasia Beverly Hills x Jackie Aina Eyeshadow Palette because the shade range reminded me so much of what I already have in other palettes from the brand! I mean, it feels like the Norvina Eyeshadow Palette and the Riviera Eyeshadow Palette that just launched and which also had a lot of purple and pink in it and when I looked at Jackie’s palette all I was seeing was a lot of purple.

I think you have to see this palette in person to appreciate it because although it does seem to look like what you might already have or it might appear to be a “purple palette” it’s actually not what you expect or at least it wasn’t what I was expecting.

The palette has an interesting split with purples and pinks the left side and more warmer neutrals on the right but the two sides can easily meet and mesh up together to create a variety of different looks. I think it’s a very Fall friendly palette as well. The colors are very bold and vivid! It’s truly a beautiful selection of shades.

The palette arrives in a gorgeous ombre iridescent faux croc compact with Jackie’s initial’s on the front. Inside you’ll find a dual-ended eyeshadow brush and 14 shades with the names of each printed below their wells. Each eyeshadow is 0.02 oz in size, it’s $45, and made in the USA. The pricing is a little unusual with ABS palettes as sometimes they are $42 where as other times they are $45. Norvina’s Palette was $42 with the same amount of shades and the same size of each eyeshadow where as the recent Alyssa Edwards Palette was $45 likewise for the Riviera Eyeshadow Palette! Some people might be quick to say, “Oh it’s more expensive because it’s a collaboration eyeshadow palette!” That’s not the case at all because even palettes that ABS didn’t work with anyone on are sometimes priced at $45. I think perhaps “pressed pigment” palettes seem to be the ones that have the extra $3 charge tacked on because these shades seem to perhaps have a higher grade of ingredients or pigment.

Speaking of pigment….! This is labeled as an eyeshadow palette that contains pressed pigments. The three pressed pigment shades are Big Wig, Pinker, and Supreme and are are clearly labeled on the outer packaging as “not intended for use around the immediate eye area.” The shades likely contain color additives that might stain eyes or cause issues or an allergic reaction for sensitive users. They are also not approved for use around the eyes by the FDA in the USA but may be approved within Europe. Thankfully enough ABS does warn which shades can’t be used around the eye area as many palettes do not explain which shades aren’t eye safe. However, the warning is still very tiny and located on the outer packaging only which always bugs me a smidge since most people don’t think the look for such warnings.

I have broken so of my own rules lately using pressed pigments on my eyes and haven’t had any averse reactions. I did use these shades on my eyes and Big Wig and Pinker did leave a bit of staining behind however, Supreme did not. The staining isn’t too big a deal as after a few go overs with eye makeup remover much of it is removed easily. But I do warn sensitive users to be careful as these shades have the potential to irritate eyes.

Now that we got all that boring eye safe warnings out of the way let’s get to the good stuff.

This is such a nice range of shades! As I mentioned above I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked it! The shades are all so rich and vibrant and the formula and the texture of the shadows are truly some of Anastasia Beverly Hills’ best. The palette contains six matte shades all of which had a very soft, silky texture that was lightly powder but didn’t have any fall out during application. The rest of the shades are a mix of sparkle and foiled metallics that applied outstanding but they are a bit loosely packed which meant I felt way more comfortable applying them with my finger than I did a brush do the fall out. I think the metallics are the best! They are so rich and creamy and they apply with a beautiful pop! Wiggalese is probably my favorite shade! It’s a warm brick red with an intense color pay off. All the shades had excellent pigment but Wiggalese was a shade that stood and really popped for me!

I think collaboration palettes can be very hit or miss at times! I’m happy to report the Anastasia Beverly Hills x Jackie Aina Eyeshadow Palette is a hit. I do urge you to check it out if you had some doubts about wanting it like I did. I was a little meh about purchasing it but I’m pretty happy I gave in because it’s definitely one of the brand’s better palettes! Not that they ever disappoint but this particularly formula seemed to tip the scales!

Anastasia Beverly Hills x Jackie Aina Eyeshadow Palette will be available August 15th.

Anastasia Beverly Hills x Jackie Aina Eyeshadow Palette is a new, limited edition palette that’s made in the USA which contains 14 eyeshadows (three of which that are labeled as pressed pigment and not for use around the immediate eye area) which are 0.02 oz in size. The palette is $45 in price. I was very pleased with the application and blendability of these shades. The eyeshadows are soft, creamy, and easy to blend with very little fall out on the mattes. Some of the shimmer and metallic shades were best applied with a finger to avoid fall out and these also, had a beautifully textured formula that was velvety smooth. All in all, a beautifully curated eyeshadow palette that will create great looks for Fall!

Pros

  • Rich and pigmented.
  • Excellent formulated eyeshadows that apply and blend easily.
  • Beautiful selection of shades that work well together.

Cons

  • Contains three pressed pigments which are not eye safe.

I don’t tend to like Anastasia palettes, the formula and color usually aren’t a good fit for me, but there are some gorgeous colors in this palette. I won’t buy it, but I think it’s pretty and I think ABH and Jackie collaborated well.
