Can You Get Lice from Eyelash Extensions?

Can you get lice from eyelash extensions? Apparently, yes you can. So, here’s the thing….! I used to have very full, long lashes but too much curling has left me with short lashes as I got older. Lately, I’ve been exploring lash serum options but the thought of getting lash extensions never crossed my mind and I’m glad about that because if I can get lice from eyelash extensions that’s just wrong and gross. ABC News 7 reports that it’s very important to properly cleanse your lashes extensions and around your eye after getting extensions as the area is prone to bacteria growth and infection which could result in redness and itchiness but grossest of all, lice.

Using an eyelid margin brush can prevent usses as the brush is small enough to remove makeup, dirt, and debris from your extensions.

The weirdest part about this would be the fact the lice can easily spread as if you wipe your eyes with a towel they can end up on the towel resulting in them ending up in your hair or on your body.

Ugh just thinking about this makes my skin crawl!

I guess I’m sticking to lash serums! Lash extensions sound terrifying.

What do you think of this report from ABC News? Does it freak you out?

Ok, you got my attention then grossed me out. Lol. However, I don’t think the probability of getting good lice is that high because it’s your eyelashes and your bacteria. I am not a Dr but from what I remember in school lice were always spread from some form of contact. I would agree with some type of eye irritation or infection but lice, not so much. It’s an organism not a bacteria. Just my thoughts.

honestly, I don’t even wanna know how lice would end up on your eyelids lol! I just hope you’re right ;-D

Not to gross you out further, but you wouldn’t need to wipe your eyes to spread them. Just like other types of lice, these suckers can JUMP.

Not at all! You can get lice in your hair too but you don’t shave your head off. You simply continue being clean and cautious. I’ve had lash extensions for about 1 year now and I cannot ever imagine going back to mascara. But to each their own!

Disgusting! I’ve never though about extensions because I like to wear eye makeup; plus, there’s also false lashes (which I can’t apply for the life of me). I am lucky that I have full long lashes, and I rarely wear mascara unless I’m wearing a full face of makeup. Yes, I’m that person who’ll wear eyeshadow without mascara. I’ll curl it a little if it looks droopy, and maybe apply a clear coat to make it glossy, but that’s about it. I think the mascara does more pulling and tugging to the lashes than the curling does.

I used to be you! I use to just curl and go but my lashes aren’t as full sadly so def need mascara ;-D I blame my curler! Every time I curl it seems like I lose a lash!

Have you tried the Surratt curler? I love that one so much, more than my Shu and Shiseido ones! Maybe you need a new one if it’s pulling out your lashes. Lol!

EW just EW. My Mom sent me this article with a picture and I wanted to GAG! No thanks, I’ll use mascara like I have been for years!

Admittedly gross. I did not read an article on it and maybe I should. Are they saying lice like head lice? But I remember reading years ago that people have eyelash mites that are spread person to person. Babies can have them – spread from mom. Are they calling these mites, lice, like a new thing? I would think that if someone gets eyelash extensions And the “lice” are really the miniscule “mites,” the mites are already in their eyelashes. I think they burrow down next to the eyelash.
