Pantone Color of the Year 2020 Is Classic Blue That May or May Not Thrill You

It’s that time of the year again! The time that the Pantone Color of the Year for 2020 is released! What is the Pantone Color of the Year 2020? It’s Classic Blue 19-4052 and the question is, will it translate well to makeup?

I gotta admit every single time Pantone releases a new Color of the Year I have hopes it’ll be some variation of coral or orange because I’m still stuck in 2012 when Tangerine Tango made its debut. But hey, I can do blue maybe.

According to Pantone they selected the Classic Blue because it was a beacon of reassurance, confidence, and connection in an unstable and emotional time in our world. It’s a very strong shade with deep roots embedded in the American culture. Blue signifies vigilance, perseverance, and justice. It’s a color represented in our flag, in the uniforms of the hard working men and woman that risk their lives daily on the police force, and the shades of the waters on our planet that signifies life.

You probably won’t see a ton of makeup collections that will embrace the shade simply because the Pantone Trend has sort of died away. The only brand that always gets very involved with the Pantone Color of the Year lately is Butter London. I’m sure they’ll launch something fabulous including a nail polish in the Classic Blue shade. Speaking of which, that’s one area in the makeup world that will get plenty of love. I’m positive plenty of nail brands like Essie, Butter London, etc will embrace this shade for Spring 2020 launches.

What about you?

Do you think you’d like to see some sort of smoky blue eye palette to celebrate the Pantone Color of the Year 2020?

I can do blue with gold…! It looks pretty brilliant!

I like the color, would look nice in my home. Can’t do much for makeup with it. Blue eyeshadow, nail polish. Blue lips seems like a past trend.

I too see it more as an apparel and decorating color. Maybe CP will do another mono in darker blue. A smoky blue palette. Definitely there will be lips; I don’t see the offbeat color trend abating, though I don’t think it will be big. I liked the Sephora versions better than the Butter London ones. Did we even see a COTY eye palette in 19? Yes, for beauty, it’ll be nails.

def into the apparel and decor aspect! I can see CP taking it on! Sephora hasn’t done anything with Pantone in a while which is a shame but no one really did aside from Butter London!

Ooh!! Kind of looks like the color I’m having my bridesmaids wear in August. It’s called horizon from David’s Bridal if you wanna peep it 🙂

I’m DEFINITELY in for the nail polish! (Not if Butter London does their overpriced mini’s again like they did with the purple ones though.) I’d also like to see an eye pencil in this color! I don’t know what to do with any blue eyeshadow lol. I make a mess!

I’m not much of a nail girl but I think it’ll make a damn classy nail look! Blue and gold girl blue and bold works a treat 😀

Simons (a Canadian department store) had a Klein Blue feature in its fall collections.

I can see maybe adding a green shade to an eyeshadow palette for a lagoon look.

Agreed this will be a dud in the makeup world. I am reminded of the year they did emerald and all that product seemed to end up on sephora clearance within weeks of launch. Won’t mind seeing it in clearance rack clothes in a few months though! Makes me think of that scene in the devil wears prada where the boss cuts down the intern about her blue sweater as fashion cycle detritus. OK I had to google it. Here it is:

“Miranda Priestly: “This…Stuff”? Oh. Okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select , I don’t know that lumpy blue sweater, for instance because you are trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you don’t know is that that sweater is not just blue, its not turquoise. It’s not lapis. Its actually cerulean. And you’re also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then i think it was Yves Saint Laurent – wasn’t it who showed cerulean military jackets? And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. And then it, uh, filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic Casual Corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and its sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact you’re wearing a sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff.”

Yup! Emerald went down fast! LOL! I love you quoted the devil wears prada! I bow to your greatness right now!

Bottom lash mascara and bottom lash line eyeliner. Wont be as harsh as black which works for upper lashes. Blue will give the right amount of focus for bottom lash area.

Nail polish is as close to anything blue as I get. It doesn’t really flatter me. But I understand being “stuck” on a color of the year. I loved Marsala.

Well, I think Blue Man Group are a head of the curve with this color!

But yeah, no. I don’t do blue in anything other than the occasional lipstick.

I hope we will see some beautiful smokey blue, classic navy shades in eyeshadows this year. This is my favourite colour…Love it.

This is going to surprise you, yet not at all. Firmenich, an international F&F co has announced the 2020 FLAVOR of the year, and it’s CLASSIC BLUEBERRY ! Firmenich markets themselves as sustainable and natural, trying to reduce salt and fat on the food side, and being producers for such designer brands as Boss, Armani, Lauren, and Lolita on the scent side. Firmenich is Swiss.

I can see this color being used in decor & clothing. But eyeshadow? Reminds me of the 1960’s when it was popular to wear on your lids. It might work as an eyeliner or corner of the eye accent color.

I know blue eyed women who wear blue eye shadow and prefer it. I would not choose it. Seems like once in a while, blue eye shadow comes back as a fad.
