Red lipstick fans rejoice because it’s Lunar Year and red is the color of the Holiday! Today, I present to you the Charlotte Tilbury Lunar New Year Magic Red Matte Revolution Lipstick for Chinese New Year 2020. Magic Red Matte Revolution Lipstick is a new, limited edition shade that looks like a warm brick red in promo images which I can totally dig because more blue toned red lipsticks don’t quite work out for me. However, that being said, I do think blue reds look amazing on Asian skin tones so that might have been a better option to go with for this launch! What do you think? The shade comes housed in limited edition red barrel.

Along with the lipstick there’s a limited edition Charlotte Tilbury Lunar Year Charlotte’s Magic Cream with a red top! These come as a set as well if you want both and that set is available exclusively at charlottetilbury.com.

I do want the lipstick but I don’t need the Magic Cream. I love Magic Eye Cream and Magic Night Cream but Magic Cream simply doesn’t do it for me. I really need to maybe give it a second chance as when I originally tried it I was not impressed.

I sort of wish mine had a red top haha…! Which reminds me! I read an article recently that brands were cashing in on Lunar Year. I had some very strong feelings about the fact that the makeup world was capitalizing on Pride Day. This was mainly because there were so many releases that month and very few were actually helping the LGBT+ community. Great rainbow packaging but what about a donation or two to an LGBT+ organization?

I do not feel as averse about Lunar Year launches. I’m actually pretty happy that this year more than any other year we have so many options to celebrate the Chinese New Year. I also think it’s nice brands acknowledge the Chinese New Year.

What do you think?

As for Charlotte Tilbury Lunar New Year Magic Red Matte Revolution Lipstick for Chinese New Year 2020 it’s available now.

I bought Scarlet Spell and the Magic Red lipsticks because they both look so beautiful (yet very similar). I wanted a deep, darker red, but just to warn you, both came out much brighter and lighter than the pictures! On my NC10 skin, the Scarlet Spell looks light, more blue-red than the Magic Red, which appears more orange-red on my skin. Temptalia has both swatches and you can see the difference. Very similar but if you have a certain skin undertone they might look a bit different. I prefer the Scarlet Spell because it is blue-toned and makes my teeth look whiter.

I am a sucker for the Chinese New Year packaging too! I love how festive these look. 🙂

No Rat, No buy. Love the color. CT is not my bestie. Did get the CP reds for LNY. At least no one is scolding us for appropriating LNY.

I think it’s mega capitalistic and lazy. At least for other holiday launches, the packaging has to re-designed to reflect the holiday and they’re usually completely new products/designs. For lunar new year, brands just put already-existing products in a red box. Maybe if they’re really pushing it, they’ll add a tiny picture of the animal of the year, but otherwise they just repackage their reddest product in a red box. It’s also completely transparent that the new effort to honor lunar new year is just taking advantage of the growing consumer base in China, a country that mandates animal testing of all foreign branded cosmetic products and a country guilty of huge human rights issues (Hong Kong, Uighur minority group, etc. ). So while I love lunar new year, these brands can miss me with this blatant, lazy money grab.

I am so with you on lazy! Special packaging is cool but the relaunch of shades or products bugs me for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish they did more LE shades or even an LE item of some sort!

These are beautiful”thank you! It looks similar to her other recent red release Scarlet Spell but minus those super cute lip print designs on the bullet! I also read the other day that CT’s people have apparently confirmed via IG that Magic Red is the exact same shade as the now discontinued Shanghai Nights from her Cities collection. Just obviously renamed and repackaged. It’s such a beautiful shade though and the red case is just so pretty. Happy New Year!

I agree these are stunning! The lipstick looks similar to her most recent red release, Scarlet Spell, but minus the very cute lip print designs on the bullet. Apparently the CT team has recently confirmed via IG that Magic Red is the same shade as the now discontinued Shanghai Nights from the Cities collection-obviously repackaged and renamed. Still very pretty though. Happy New Year!

I like this color but have never tried one of their lipsticks. Are you planning on reviewing/swatching this one?
