What The World Needs Now Is Distraction

Good Morning friends!

I hope and I pray this post finds you and your family safe and healthy. There’s a lot of insanity happening in our world at the moment and I had to sit back for a moment this weekend and think hard how I wanted to address it in this post.

If you know me you might know that not a lot gets me down. I take on life with a lot of happiness and I don’t let things get to me. I find the goodness in every situation. I’m ever always an optimistic human. But life isn’t always perfect and we are in the midst of some of those imperfection at the moment. Right now my optimism is being put to the test. I’m not one for feeling anxious or paranoid but like many of you I’m scared. Scared for my loved ones, scared for friends and neighbors, scared for the way the world acting right now. We just have to keep calm and carry on but it’s ok to be scared too.

I’m at work today because I am self-employed and have to take care of my business. I’m armed with plenty of items to keep me and any clients that I see safe. I admit, it’s not the place I want to be right now. I want to be home in bed with the covers thrown over my head and a good book on my Kindle so I don’t have to think about what is happening outside my door. But I have a business to run and take care of and that’s what I am trying to do right now.

I’m going to try to get some blogging done this week. I’ve been really busy at work and it slammed me so hard I’ve had little time to actually post. In my 10 plus years of running Musings of a Muse that was never an issue but the last two months have been crazy for me.

I want to blog because it’s a good distraction for me and I hope for you too. I hope you’ll take time to comment on my posts to take your mind away from the news for a minute or two.

Just remember, this too shall pass and I’m urging everyone to follow Wheaton’s Law during this trying time in our world (that means not hoarding TP and sharing with others!) If you need a lift here and there I’m posting away on Instastories!

Be safe my friends and be the good, strong humans I know you can be.

You got this.

And so do I.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Thanks for your kind words! I love your blog! Sending you prayers (and the whole world) for health and happiness. Thank-you for what you do!!

I live in Seattle and you can’t imagine the level of panic induced insanity out here. I just don’t see the point of freaking out and acting like the zombies are coming for us.. Our governor in my opinion is a moron who is just fanning the panic flames.. they just down the bars and restaurants yesterday……what happens now to those people who worked there? Everyone I know has lost their damn mind over this virus and frankly I’m sick of it.. I know it’s serious especially for a specific demographic however I think it’s time to just calm down get a grip and carry on with common sense and caution. Humankind will get thru this I promise.

    • Isabella Muse

It’s getting there in New York and I think that scares me more than the virus. I do think it might be smart to shut down smaller public areas however, it does make life a hell of a lot harder for those working in those places as they have to support themselves and maybe even family members. They might try to limit the amount of people they let in. The news is making things very much making it into a panic panic panic situation and that’s not good for anyone. I agree. We will get through this the way we get through all things.

      • Mary Brenner

Oh I am with you on the media making things 100000000000000 times worse, the way this has been handled by the news media and all platforms has been totally wrong in my opinion.. they just increase the panic daily.
I’m off to shop the Neiman Marcus sale, I wish you and yours good health and calm minds !!
Carry on with common sense and caution is my new slogan!

        • Isabella Muse

I feel the news can be a double edged sword. In someways I want to know what is happening. In others I feel like, “Ok this is overkill.” Some news sources are really making the situation wayyyy worst. You really have to be aware of the news source you use because a lot of information floating around is completely wrong. I wish us all well and I agree to proceed with caution! have fun 🙂 I might just buy myself a pretty thing or two today to bring my stress level down!

  • Jujubes

Thank you for your post, Isabella. I do find solace and comfort reading your blog, as I have been reading it for the past many years. 🙂 I hope you stay safe. It is quite shocking to see this kind of behavior in people, the panic buying, the hoarding. I hope things will go back to normal once this is under control.

    Stay safe and healthy! xoxo

    • Isabella Muse

Thank you for being such a long time reader 🙂 That means the world to me! I hope you stay safe as well! It’s crazy isn’t it? I think maybe people have seen one too many bad zombie moves thus the panic buying mentality. I hope things get back under control soon too! Because right now things are a crazy. Everyone needs to be a bit calmer and proceed with caution .

  • jana

It’s so good to see a caring, compassionate soul out there. Hang in there, be safe, and thank you for the uplifting words. We are all in this together, and together we rise, divided we fall. Love the blog, always have, always will!

Jana truer words were never spoken. I hope we all stand up together and be there for each other. Thank you for your comment today! It made my day 🙂

  • Bella

I love your blog and have bene reading it for years. You have compassion and common sense.
    Thanks for all you do!

  • Christina

    Nice to see you back!

It least in California, our governor is advocating ordering take-out and utilising services like Door Dash, and expanding it etc. so that our smaller businesses don’t go out of business.

It’s a scary time for everyone. I’m not worried, but I want to make sure I do my part and not spread anything to others. I work in administration in education, so all of our schools are closed, but lucky me, I’m considered essential staff (Business Operations) and have to be at work daily. It’s all good, though. Staying at home all day would drive me nuts. And thank goodness for the beauty community to help me distract myself from all the unpleasant news out there.

Muse, are you watching Kingdom 2?

    • Isabella Muse

It’s good to be back! I hope I can stay back! I’ve been swamped with work 🙂 I have my own small business so I am quite worried as my industry is very effected by this. 🙁 Wow. You’re not alone! Some of us have to be out there fighting the good fight. Just be careful! You’ll be fine I’m sure of it. I feel the same way! If I had to be home all day I’d go nuts so I guess sometimes stuff like this is a blessing and not a curse. We all have to do our part! I believe we’ll get through this. We’re strong even though sometimes it feels like we are not 🙂 I’m NOT! It’s on my list! I’ve been trying to get through the New Pope (I have 2 episodes left). Kingdom 2 might be next up! I didn’t even watch To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You yet! BEHIND! 😉 Be safe Christina!

  • Dee

Always a good thing to see a post from you! Glad you are well, and please, always keep your positive attitude!

I am sick in bed with a fever. Have called my dr and was told to stay away from my family. Really don’t think it’s THE virus but best to keep my distance for awhile.

The media can certainly whip things up but I do believe we need to take what is happening seriously. This is very contagious and if we don’t take steps to try and contain or slow the spread down we will be in a world of trouble. You don’t have to watch tv. But you should pay attention to what the health experts are saying.

    Hope everyone stays well!

    • Isabella Muse

Oh no Dee. Please take very very very very good care of yourself. I completely agree! The media whips things up into a panic at times but yes, we need to pay very very close attention to what is being said!!!!!!!!!!! Please be careful and check in with me when you can!

Gentleness is a word that comes to mind right now….gentleness towards ourselves, our neighbors, our fears, and towards those with differing opinions.

  • Rio

Thx for posting today! This will pass and be an opportunity for all of us to pull together.
Keep calm and just don’t touch your face 🙂

  • Blee

Hi, Musey girl! I too own a small business with my hubby. And here they are a tad crazy buying TP, fresh chicken, and bread. I told my hubby that we have 3 weeks of TP (Sam’s club). I have been praying for all in the world, but being WISE. In the last 6 months had to lung infections ( never had those before) and my mom just had a knee replacement and she should not be out in public. So she is home. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of Love of the Abba, power of the Holy Spirit, and a sound mind of Christ! I rest in this promise XOXOXO <3

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Blee! I wish you luck! Small businesses are going to struggle through this! We have to stay strong <3! Same here! Everyone is mass buying everything! There's really no shortage of TP so not sure I am totally understanding that one at the moment. I'm totally using the Fear the Walking Dead mentality here, "Take what you need. Leave what you don't". I wish everyone else would do the same. I had really, really bad bronchitis last year! My first time having anything like it and it lasted for months! It was horrid and it made me really scared of this outbreak. I've forbidden both my parents to leave the house which is hard as my dad is really one to get out and about every day! Make sure you tell your mom to stay safe and out of public. I believe we will all be fine but we need to get pass this with patient, strength, kindness, and by being calm! 🙂 xoxoxo!

YOU. ARE. AWESOME!!! Love reading your posts and have been doing so for years! Also thanks for all your posts on Instagram!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thank you OK <3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! be safe and healthy!

  • Colleenie

So nice to see a post from you in these times! It is so scary and crazy. I’m grateful I work from home, but I live with people who are at high-risk, so it is all still worrisome. I hope everything works out well for all of us and that the worst of it is the panic we’ve had so far. Better to be safe than sorry.

    • Isabella Muse

That’s hard Colleenie! Please keep those high risk family members safe. We’ll be ok! We’ve been through a lot! We’re strong! Be well and safe!

  • MDW

I think you are in a similar business I used to be in. And that business had a very wise principle. Invest in the emerging markets being spawned from the current situation. I think this particular go round will create new millionaires just like past situations have done.

    • Isabella Muse

I gotta admit I’m not really worry about making millions 🙂 just that my clients are safe, happy, and still have jobs when this is all said and done!

  • Daphne B

Thank you so much for keeping up your blog, despite the fact that you are slammed at work. We need more people like you, who bring joy and fun to each day. I hope your workload gets much lighter. Stay well and stay safe. You provide a valuable source of respite for all of us from a world gone mad!

    • Isabella Muse

Aw thank you Daphne this made my day! Please be safe and healthy and most important of all, happy!

  • GINA L

Thank you for being so positive! I am a long time reader and your posts always brighten my day. Stay healthy!

    • Isabella Muse

Thank you Gina 🙂 I appreciate your readership! You as well! Take good care of yourself!

  • Ava Gorelick

Thank you for your kind words. I am here in NYC and everything is closing – the libraries, Broadway, Sephora, Nordstroms, Bath and Body Works, etc. Everyone please take care and be safe.

    • Isabella Muse

I’m in NY too totally can relate. Be safe Ava! <3! We're the best city in the world 🙂 Look at what we've been through in the past! We'll get through this! We're strong!

  • Victoria Thompson

Thank you for your wise words. My family are all in England, and they remind me daily to keep my British stiff-upper-lip attitude. Living in Northern Virginia, media craziness is the norm. Your sanity lifted me up this morning, so, again, thank you.

    • Isabella Muse

I think we all NEED to embrace our inner Brit right now because things are becoming a little too hectic. Keep Calm and Carry On has never been a truer statement. We need to remain calm, we need to go about our life (whether that means from home or sadly, outside of our homes) and we need to be strong. You’ll be ok Victoria don’t worry! Keep that stiff upper lip 🙂 It’ll help you through this! Thank you for commenting today!

  • Jane

Awesome post!!! Thanks for the positivity, I work in the OR & can use that support! I will spread it around… Thank you again & please Muse, keep it comin’!!! You rock! ❤️

    • Isabella Muse

Thank you SO much Jane! Thank you for working so hard for us! We appreciate it. You be safe. Keep your chin up! I know you can do the work you need to do! Thank you for being on the front line <3!

  • Jill

    Isabella!
It’s good to see you in my inbox; I’ve been missing you! It’s not just about the makeup (although you have historically pointed me in the direction of some very awesome deals) I miss your “voice”. You have a very a-musing way of expressing yourself that I do so look forward to. You have such a wonderfully unique way of expressing yourself that each of us out here feel as if we are your high school BFF, sharing makeup tips and giggling as we try different products and make a big mess together. You, our Muse, hold a very important place in our lives, and I want you to know that. Truth.

I get it that you’re slammed at work, we all gotta do what we gotta do. We will wait for you. Meanwhile, the silver lining is that I’m saving a bunch of money since you’re not here every day to tell me about all the sales going on!
    That’s actually a GOOD thing!

Be good to yourself, be safe, and come back to us soon. We miss you, and we’ll have a ton of money saved up by then.

    ❤️❤️❤️

  • Mary

Wishing you and yours well, Muse. We’ve gotten through much worse than this, and I’m more afraid of the panicked hoarders than I am of any virus.

I’m going to join Gloria Gaynor and sing a chorus of “I Will Survive,” while I wash my hands 50 times a day, plaster a smile on my face and help someone else if I can.

Take care, my dear, and chin up.

    • Isabella Muse

Likewise Mary! I wish you and yours health and safety! I am too! I’m also terrified of the economy. I’m not sure what’s worst this point! The lack of toilet paper, the virus, or the freaking economy. It’s all insane. I do that 🙂 I’m washing my hands 100 of times a day, plastering my best smile on, and doing my best to be strong for my family, friends, and clients. We can do it!!!!!!!!! Chin is def up! ;-D

  • E.Green

    Been missing you
..but work is vital. Take care of all. We need each other. Hope to sail the boat your way this summer. We can grab a drink. Appreciate your insights & notes. Hope your Cali love is well too. E

  • genevieve

Thank you Muse – it’s always good to read your comments. I am feeling pretty chilled myself and I am not panic buying or anything like that. It is worrying about what the virus can do, but we are all healthy people in our household so we shall see.
Our restaurants and shops are still open, but organizations that have more than 500 people have been asked to work from home. Schools are still open too Unless an infected person has visited the school, the school will remain working as usual. This is great news for a lot of parents and for the kids themselves. I see a lot of people being really sensible around where I live – outer Eastern Melbourne Aus. I hope everyone here remains well and healthy.

  • Lisa

Thanks Muse, your blog post cheered me up, as always, I look forward to seeing an email from your blog in my inbox! We will all get through this together.
