April 17th the big old Sephora Beauty Insider Sale starts! EEP! 20% Off your total for Rouge Members! If every their was a moment to treat yo’ self it feels like right now would be it.

This sale actually brought up something interesting for me as I was left wondering where most of my beauty budget goes? What am I spending the most money on in the beauty world? The answer actually didn’t surprise me.

10 plus years ago I’d say most of my beauty budget was blown on color cosmetics. I was one of those people obsessed with purchasing entire collections and if I really liked an eyeshadow or a lipstick formula I wanted to own it in every shade. Nowadays it doesn’t really surprise me that a lot of my beauty budget is actually spent on skincare! And even more of it is spent on fragrance which is one of my biggest passions in the world of beauty. It comes as no surprise to me that my cart at Sephora currently has most skincare and perfume in it and very, very, very few makeup or color options. I’m still very much the concealer h0r you know and love 🙂 but there aren’t many new concealers available at the moment to snap up.

I think we all reach a point where we are like, ok, more or less when it comes to makeup! We only have one face after all and two eyes so how man eyeshadow palettes do we need? This doesn’t mean I’m not tempted by eyeshadow palettes and other new makeup! I’ll always be drawn to the next big thing because I’m a magpie that likes to collector all the new, shiny things and hoard them away! But I do find that a lot of my beauty budget spending goes mostly to skincare and fragrance lately.

What about you?

Are color cosmetics still a big spending item for you?

Or do you concentrate on some other aspect of the beauty world to spend your hard earned money?

Do share!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.

Skincare and bath, neither of which is a Sephora strong suit. Concealer: getting the Hourglass. Scent: well, CosBar Creed, thanks to you. No S appeals to me. Color and scent: will never finish what i have. But today, for work, i have on nothing but concealer and a big fat Cosrx zit patch on my nose, after Innisfree volcanic masking it yesterday. THAT’S how you look younger….acne @ 71, lol.

I’ve switched to more skincare and less color cosmetics in the last 2-3 years. Now, I mostly just buy new lip products with my skincare. Excited for the sale (maybe just cuz it gets my mind off the pandemic a bit).

Right now, perfume since I wear it constantly and skin care, I am sick of palette and blush it’s all the same if you look at it I bet we all have the same colors 10 times over

Hahaha, yes!! My cart is basically all skin care except for the mascara I’m picking up on sale for my mom. And most (if not all) of the skin care in my cart are repurchases. I really feel like I’m getting to the point where I know what my skin likes and will really only branch out to try a new mask or so.

Also, I would normally restock on any base purchases, like foundation, but with the self-isolation and working from home, I really haven’t been putting makeup on as much, if at all so my makeup is lasting way longer. Unless it’s nail polish. I’m a sucker for nail polish 🙂

I’ve become so bored with makeup and I have enough for several lifetimes I’m really not buying anything anymore,. Because I’m in nursing I can’t wear fragrance so my slush fund spending has turned to shoes.. I can’t get enough cute sneakers and flats.

Most of my beauty spending goes towards nail polish, mostly indies. I like pretty colors.

I don’t buy too much in the way of color cosmetics – I have eye shadow palettes I’ve never even opened, and most of the current crop are way too warm for me. (No, I am not putting orange on my eyelids, thenkyeweverso).

But even though I’m past the half-century mark, I also don’t spend too much on skincare. If I come anywhere near the regimes recommended for my age group, I break out like a teenager. I use a few basics and I’m happy with the results. But this is also why I don’t ever do mystery boxes aimed at different age groups – all I’ll get is a mess of skin care stuff I won’t use.

My budget definitely goes to skincare. I used to purchase a lot of colour cosmetics, but everything is pretty looking the same lately–there are so many colours out there, after all. I did splurge on the Colourpop Mulan collection, but now it’s on indefinite hold, I’ve kind of lost my enthusiasm for it and might end up cancelling. I liked it for the packaging, really, and was planning on gifting away things I know I won’t use, but maybe I should just cancel? Save myself some money? I’m back and forth…

I love you! I’m buying all things lip because I wear a night guard which I’m apparently allergic to and it ends up irritating my mouth and lips. Yes, I have a variety of night guards too. They ALL irritate me. I think it’s one of the materials they’re all made of. Thanks for your blog!

For those with time on their hands, all those eye shadow palettes can be used as artist paints.

I will always do the super thin tilted up eyeliner and lengthening mascara. I will never admit how I separate each mascara-ed lash.

    Crayon concealer is a godsend.
