About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I have two of them and I love them. Best investment I ever made!

Do you follow Nordstrom business closely enough to know if this is a sign they may get swept up in the business woes that hit Barney’s, and has been hitting Macy’s, Neiman Marcus and other department stores? I saw some clothing for 50% that never goes on sale (high end, classic suits). I really love Nordstrom and hope their bottom line is okay.

Nordstrom is in a unique situation as they haven’t opened a lot of larger department stores has really concentrated heavily on their online business and rightly so because they are aiming to grab $$ from Gen Y and on some level millennials. Without having to pay rent and having to deal with malls closing down etc they are in a better condition than department stores like Macy’s which has a BnM on every street corner. There stock is still sh1t though and has been for a long time. I think the last time the stock sold decently was 5+ years ago and even at that time it wasn’t high. They have been very smart with how they run their business but I do think the flagship store in Manhattan was dumb. It cost them a little over 500 million to open and apparently they predict it’ll bring in 700 to 800 million. The problem with Nordstrom and other luxury department stores and even high-end brands and merch is that we’ve all grown accustomed to paying sale prices. Even those with money to spend are out to score a deal. I think this hurts stores and brands like Nordstrom big time. All that being said, Nordstrom has a fair chance of surviving the storm. For how long is the question though. I think consumers may be a little smarter now and after all this is said and done we’ll be even more smarter and thoughtful about our spending power (or I hope). If you want to make money you need to invest in something of value not something that’s easily tossed away. “Ooo I love this sweater I’m buying it!” Does the sweater have any value? Will it go up in price in the next year? Can you make any money from it in the future? Is it a worthy investment? Sure, looks cute on but will it actually have any return investment. Probably not. People will come out of COVID-19 maybe questioning their purchases and asking all these questions before they buy something. And if they do? That would part department stores like Nordstrom in very bad shape! You can’t really judge right now though because everyone is having a sale and trying to push for consumer dollars. The real test is after everyone goes back to “real” life how things will work out.

Hi Muse! Do you recommend this mirror with all the extra tech or do you think the other simple human mirror with the light adjusting panel in the back is the better buy? The latter is currently not on sale at Nordstrom but is tempting me …
