It’s A YOLO Makeup Day Start Opening That Makeup Vault I Need to See What’s Inside

If you read my long-winded Instagram post yesterday you know I spent part of the day opening up Star Wars Collectibles that I purchased on May 4th. It was a just because moment…! I sat on the floor, I hauled it all out, and I ripped into with my teeth.

About 75% of it was never supposed to be opened at all. I was planning on displaying in the packaging or hoarding it away somewhere. But if this current situation has taught me anything at all it’s you only live once. Let me tell you, I even threw out the damn boxes. You know I always keep the boxes right? There was a time in my life when I used to keep all my MAC boxes. I mean, even shades that were permanent I’d keep in the box. WTF was I thinking?

Remember when MAC pigments were all the things? I used to buy a backup of LE shades. Another thing, I’ll never truly understand about myself. Why am I buying backups of all this crap? With age, comes plenty of experience as I never, ever buy backups of anything anymore. My makeup stash is massive I do NOT need to do the backup thing because I’ve realized most everything can be duped at some point. A few years ago I came to the epiphany that I really needed to start using the makeup I purchased. I used to store away all my limited edition makeup pieces. I still have a perfectly pristine Givenchy Prisme Solitaire Precious Diamond All Over Powder in my beauty vault and the sad thing is now it’s too old to actually enjoy. I do wish I used it when I purchased it instead of hoarding it away like a magpie.

It didn’t take COVID-19 to make me realize I should enjoy my makeup though (it did take it to realize I should be enjoying my collectibles though!). I realized that makeup is meant to be enjoyed even special limited edition pieces should be cherished and used because life is too short to hoard all the beautiful things away. I do urge you today to go through all your beautiful makeup, stuff you haven’t used or you’re saving for a rainy day and just enjoy it. Life is too short, we only have two eyes, one set of lips, and one face. We are unfortunately not Zaphod Beeblebrox! So, go forth my lovely beauty junkies and open the beauty vault.

And pretty please tell me what’s inside your beauty vault that you haven’t used!

I’ve been using this time to blow through my sample stash that I was “saving for travel.” Pre-COVID I only traveled like 3-4 times per year, but I have saved a bazillion sample products. Now, with even less travel, I’m trying to use some of this stuff, especially high end products before it goes bad. I think it’s also freeing to feel no worry about trying new skincare during this quarantine. I wouldn’t normally try a new facial oil on a workday in case it didn’t play nicely with foundation or caused a breakout, but these days I’m just using all the skin care samples I’ve stockpiled whenever I feel like it.

It’s actually a super time to try something new without fear you’ll have get a pimple or have a bad reaction because hey, who cares who sees us we’re at home! ;-D

I’m doing the same! In fact when we first went into lockdown I realized I had so many good sized samples of products that I wouldn’t need to worry about runnnything.ing out of anything.

I’m also wearing colors that I hesitated to wear before. And I’m breaking out nail polish colors that I wouldn’t wear day to day either.

I don’t have backups, I don’t really have a vault… but I have noticed that there’s almost a fear I have associated with new products because I have such high hopes for how things should work/should look/pigmentation and I’m so often disappointed that I hesitate to use the stuff I’ve purchased. It’s better now than when I was younger.

I think we’re all scared of crappy formulas lately!

MAC Pigments were a major part of my life ten years ago! I miss collecting them!

    • Isabella Muse

Mine too! They never release pigments with LE collections anymore!

Omg, I have sooo many that I’ve collected and never used too! What immediately comes to mind is I hauled all of the UD GoT last year & have only used one of the brushes so far. I would buy the special edition YSL Touche Éclat pens & prob used only one. I think I have all of those cute cheap Stila travel palettes from many yrs ago & have prob used only one too. I’ve never hit pan on Stila singles, but I still bought plenty of backups. My current obsession is the Chantecaille philanthropy collections & I’ve used one blush & one lippie so far. I guess I need to break out my skincare & m/u sample stash too & try some stuff out.

I have have the travel girl palettes too from Stila and I think I used them maybe once or two times each! It’s sort of sad!

Preach it sister! I reorganized this weekend and moved some new stuff to the forefront that I just never got around to using. I’ve been working at home for about 2 months now and one thing I am doing using a different hair product every day lol. I tend to buy too many curl definers, air dry creams, and beachy hair products. But I’m always afraid to try them out in case they look terrible and I’m at work with crazy hair. No worries now! I’ve found some things I love and some things I’ve tossed.

I use my makeup but sometimes I forget about things. As part of my Covid quarrantine, I’m going through and making myself use all my makeup to determine whether to keep it or not. I found an old Kevyn Aucoin “Making Faces” Pallet that yes had gone bad 🙁

Me too! I def try to rotate seasonally to remind myself what I have!

My Mac Hello Kitty NC20 powder with the Hello Kitty pink l/g that came with that line. The compact I only use when I’m out, still haven’t hit pan. The compact weighs like 3 pounds. They were smart and made it just a tad smaller so you can’t hit pan and put another powder in. Maybe on of their blushes like my beloved Pinch o Peach they d/c might fit in it???

    • Isabella Muse

You know what? You reminded me I have that compact :O!!!!!!!!!!

      • Veronica Denise Lee

LOL when you find it pick it up and see how heavy it is. I also used to go beserk with the Mac postcards. I loved Mac when they had 4 collections a year. I think Xmas 2000 or 2001 their Xmas collection was all white. A beautiful metal white e/s compact with 12 e/s. I thought I was the shit. Remember when Coco pigment came out and they d/s it and people were selling samples LOL.

Besides HK collection my fave was the Mac Liza Am. I bought 4 of those. Beige, pink, taupe and dark brown perfect for day and for work I just hit pan on all 4 colors in my 3rd one and my last one *cries* I already used up the pink in that. At least we can recycle But for now I’m going to organize my stash and shop it.

        • Isabella Muse

I kind of remember it being super heavy! 😀 Now I got to go look for it. I used to love the mac pcs! They were fun! I still have a lot of them! OF COURSE! My bestie in the UK used to have me send her all the newest piggies and she would decant them and sell on a forum she was part of! I’ve been shopping my own stash since isolation! I forgot how much great stuff I have 😀

awesome Please don’t tell me you have Macs Coco Pigment- for years I have been on the hunt for that and Estee Lauders Go Pout l/s line I had almost every color but my fave was Sugar Daddy. There are some fakes on Ebay and a couple of old broken down ones that look rancid
