I recently added Flora & Curl Flower Garden Hair Butter Concentrate to my hair care arsenal and it’s become my Summer staple for creating glorious pigtails, crown braids, and perfectly hydrated and fuller waves. I’m in love!

But be warned, when they say concentrate they really do mean concentrate!

I don’t really do hair styles. When I’m at work my hair is slicked backed with a headband and tucked into a bun. If I’m out and about I’ll leave it down and wavy or in a half ponytail. There’s not a lot of effort that goes into creating hair styles over here. I don’t really like it completely straightened but I also, don’t really love all my wild waves either!

I do wear ponytails a lot around the house because it’s easy to just split my hair up and do two pony tails at the back of my head. It’s cute, it’s fast, and it keeps my hair out of my eyes. I do have a new obsession which is a crown braid. Don’t panic, I didn’t attempt it myself. I know you worry about me and get scared I’ll hurt myself doing some new hair style. Ha…! In all seriousness, the crown braid passion started on a whim back in February when my bestie did it on my head when he slept over one night. We were watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens, perving on Adam Driver because really we both want to climb him like a tree, and trying to do Rey’s triple bun on me but it somehow ended up a crown braid. And it turned out so awesome. At the time my BF was sitting on the couch working while we sat on the floor attempting this Star Wars hair style and he obviously picked something up because when I attempted to re-create the look I couldn’t do it. It came out sloppy and all kinds of messed up. But my BF was able to re-create it. Who knew he has a touch of Jonathan Antin running through his veins? In all seriousness, he taught me how to re-create it quite easily and now it’s sort of my Summer hair style of choice. One thing that really helped when he re-created the braid is he used Uno Fiber Neo (I don’t even know where he gets it because I think Shiseido discontinued it didn’t they!?) It sort of smoothed my hair and made it easier to create a tight braid to wrap around my head. I don’t really love Uno Fiber Neo for my hair even though I want to be Orlando Bloom when I grow up (remember those Japanese commercials? I bet you do! I mean, who doesn’t? They were a mini Bond movies starring Orlando!). Fiber Neo always works great in his hair but when he used it on me it created really hard helmet hair after I released my braid. So, yeah, not a good look. But I do think my first attempt came out messy because I didn’t really have something good to smooth my hair with and his came out so good because he used a pomade to smooth my hair and create a tighter braid to go around the crown my head.

After slowing learning how to create the crown braid myself I started experiencing with different products to smooth my wavy hair and make it easier to braid. I tried some of the Carol’s Daughter 4-in-1 Combing Cremes at first but they didn’t quite get it right as they are a bit too moisturizing with very little hold. My search led me Flora & Curl Flower Garden Hair Butter Concentrate.

I consider my hair dry but not textured. This will work best for someone with more textured hair but a little does go a long, long way for this to act as a moisturizing hair pomade for those of us with curls, waves, or frizz.

It arrives in a 4.2 oz jar and believe me when I say they should make it smaller than that because a tiny dab is all you need for your entire head. This is a shea based butter with a creamy, thick texture that instantly melts into an oil when massaged into your hands. It contains a host of amazing oils like coconut, almond, and rice brand as well as vitamin E and floral extracts from rose, hibiscus, and marigold just to name a few! All those plant and floral oils make it smell amazing as well! It sort of has a fresh herbal rose fragrance that lingers beautifully.

It actually works in a variety of ways! You can style with it, use it to create shine (it does this amazing well), and it also works as a scalp care to add hydration and moisture to your scalp. It contains no silicones, sulphates, petroleum, mineral oil, artificial fragrances and artificial colors plus it’s vegan, cruelty-free.

I started using it to smooth my hair and make more manageable when I’m braiding my hair. It really smooths my hair super well without giving me helmet hair. It can be a LITTLE challenging to work with on wet hair as it feels almost like a petroleum of sorts with a very balmy texture but remember what I said about a little going a long way and you’ll experience no trouble.

Although, it started our as a pomade I now use it daily when I leave my hair down as it gives my hair a fuller, lusher look and tames frizz. My wavy hair looks so much more refined now and the curls feel soft and touchable. It’s like I had a super deep conditioning treatment when I use this. I don’t have fine hair and already have plenty of volume but this doubles it. So, if you are struggling with finer hair a little dab of this will not only hydrate and tame your hair but also, give it a super fuller appearance. If you want slicker pigtails or braids I also recommend it because it really lets you smooth and twist hair into different designs very easily.

All in all, an excellent way to de-frizz, hydrate, and give a fuller look to your hair not to mention a most excellent styling pomade and tool!
