Due to the Pandemic I Purchased the Following Makeup and Beauty Products

What’s your life in quarantine been like? Are you slowly creeping outside like me and my follow Gothamites or are you closing yourself inside still? My life has rebooted, restarted, and it’s slowing moving forward. Cases in New York seem to be remaining low but we all need to be a bit more diligent as I see a few too many crazy things going on around here that aren’t exactly safe.

I spent way too much time home and during that time the pandemic made me do one or two goofy online purchases. I tried to keep my online purchases to essentials only because I was actually very concerned about people working delivery and those working in shipping warehouses. Things were scary for a long time and our cases were so high I just kept thinking of my UPS guy out on the street 14+ hours delivery non-essentials and it really stopped me from doing major retail therapy.

Towards the end of June as things got a bit better my online purchase definitely revved up some. I recently ran across a hysterical post on Facebook a friend post that said to begin a sentence with your favorite quote and end it with “due to the pandemic”. Some of the replies were hysterical! My personal favorite: “Chewie, we’re home due to the pandemic!” As a Star Wars nerd I thought this was pretty funny.

It made me think about doing a beauty twist on it so here we are.

Complete the following line “I purchased_________________due to the pandemic!”

1, 2, 3!

GO!

What’s your reply?

I purchased hair care due to the pandemic!

I dunno why but the pandemic suddenly had me really focused on my hair. I did an order from Carol’s Daughter, Alikay Naturals, and one from Flora & Curl. I’m all about trying all these curl creams lately as I like to wear a crown braid or slick back pigtails. I love how they work to smooth my hair and tame my curls but also, they leave my curls bouncy and soft too!

So, yeah, due to the pandemic I’m suddenly some sort hair aficionado and addict.

Feel free to fill in the blank and share your pandemic orders!

Due to the pandemic, I purchased an OXO salad spinner & 2 new silicone tipped spatulas. My trusty Rubbermaid spatula I use for removing batter from a bowl, broke off a corner! It was very old! :O The salad spinner got put to use twice so far for home grown lettuce. 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

OMG! I did too! a Salad spinner that is. I suddenly felt like we needed a salad spinner! hahaha! ;-D I love you grow your own lettuce! I planed baby lettuce and cucumbers this year too!

      • Chris

Garden tip: cut off the leaves & leave roots in ground after the 1st harvest. The lettuce will make more leaves for a 2nd harvest. But… once any flowers form, the lettuce turns bitter & is unusable!

I purchased my first Fenty cream contour and Hourglass ambient lighting powder because of the pandemic. I also spent a bunch of time to successfully purchase the Pür X Raw Beauty Kristi pressed pigment palette, but I would have bought it anyway.

Due to the pandemic I purchased all the things from Amazon! I’ve never really been an Amazon shopper aside from the occasional here and there stuff but as of the last few months, it’s gotten so out of hand lol. The items range from organizational things to skin care and all else in between. I’m starting to ease up and now I’m waiting for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

    • Isabella Muse

ME TOO! haha! Amazon was just there for me during the pandemic! I mean I always purchase from Amazon but Amazon seemed like the spot to get all the things I really needed when I couldn’t get them in stores ;-D Can’t wait for the anni sale!

Due to the pandemic, I purchased:

-The Melt Cosmetics Impulsive Palette (fitting name!) – its on sale for over half off right now, but I don’t really recommend it… its pretty but I find the color story quite frustrating on its own!

-The Pat McGrath Subversive Mini Palettes – These were also on sale for half off, and dang are they pretty! Again they aren’t great as stand alone palettes but the metallics are so creamy.

    – I put in an order for a small Sydney Grace haul during their sale last week – I’ve been wanting to try their cream eyeshadows for ages!

I think that’s it beauty wise…. probably! I’ve been trying to resist retail therapy with all my might but a few purchases definitely snuck in XD

        -seven Coloured Raine shadows
-sooooooooooo much during the Sydney Grace sale (shadow singles, lip stuff, mystery bag)

-three neon cake liners from Glam Vice

Due to the pandemic I purchased some korean skincare and because a friend of mine invited me to start the Curly Girl Method (I have wavy hair) sooo… hello dear shampoos, conditioners, hair creams and hair masks!! <3
And I have to say that my hair never looked this healthy <3

    • Isabella Muse

I’ve been practicing some of the Curly Girl Method too (i have super long, wavy hair). I realized after reading a lot about it that I actually care for my hair completely wrong!

      • Gina

I’m in a facebook group called Rizada de México and I think it’s a lot of information about silicones, parabens, sulfates, etc., but at the same time it’s very interesting 😮

Due all this virus thing I haven’t had the chance to go to the US this year, and I reeeaaally want to buy Not Your Mother’s shampoos because they have stopped selling them here. And I want to try the Garnier Fructis Curl Treat Jelly Shaping Gel (they sell it at Target and Walmart) because we just got the Cantú Shea Butter Hair Cream (just bought it but haven’t try it yet, but almost all the girls are crazy for this hair cream) I think you can find it in Target, Walmart, Sally Beauty, maybe HEB?

I’ve been purchasing hair care too! For years I’ve worn my hair in a ponytail and now im starting to see signs of hair thinning at the crown. I think its from stress and my boyfriend’s baby brother committed suicide in February. I have a dermatologist appointment in 1 month. It may be scalp alopecia. Ive tired castor oil & rosemary oil and now im trying a hair thinning shampoo from redken, blue and silver packaging. I try not to wear it tightly pulled back. I’m hoping the derm will have all the answers!

    • Isabella Muse

Oh my gosh Ashley. Sorry to hear about your boyfriend’s brother jeez. 🙁 Good luck at your derm visit! Maybe it is stress!

    • Amy

Ashley – I’ve got the same thing going on and my dermatologist said it was alopecia. Though she didn’t recommend anything to help, other than easing up on the ponytails. Well, that’s not going to happen. I hope you find a solution.

      • Isabella Muse

I wear my hair slicked back in a bun all the time but I use a bun holder to do it. It allows me to have a tight bun without straining my hair to do it! I’m sure you can find something for pigtails and ponytails too 🙂

Pandemic made me buy wool dryer balls, new pillows (yes, 2 down pillows=a car payment), hanger stackers, some neon eyeliners, and concealers. Undereye circles were not improved by this crisis. Ari: let me know how you fare with the SG creams. I’m not Tim Gunning them well at all. (Making them work) Even though I got lighter neutrals, they are very intense and metallic. Frankly, a tad scary. And I ADORE Sydney Grace.

  • CC

I stated using more skincare and less makeup due to pandemic. That Foreo works!

  • Miska

I have fallen down into the big black hole of indie perfume oils. I’ve long since been unimpressed by main stream offerings. The prices are ridiculous and the scents don’t last. And don’t get me started on reformulations! I haven’t been wearing makeup because my mask will just smear stuff around. I’m on a “no buy” for makeup (so far I’ve been good) while masks are in full swing. I did get on Amazon and purchase a spinning lipstick tower and I love it so much. Also got 2 multi level spinning lazy susan type organizers to sort out all of the stuff on my dresser. Definitely makes finding things much easier and freed up space. *sighs*speaking of hair…I have fine curly hair in dire need of a good trim. I look forward to your reviews on the curl creams that you use. The ones that I’ve tried have all been too heavy for my hair. I’ve experienced hair loss from extreme stress a few times in my life. I’ve used biotin (in the vitamin section of any drug store) when it happens and feel like it’s helped. Also, I switched my elastic hair ties to these things called Teleties. They’re much more gentle on the hair.

    • Isabella Muse

oooo anything good? Bpal has two new ones I am gagging to grab! ;-D and I love a good makeup organizer ;-D I’ve had some very nice lightweight ones! I’m rounding them up and planning a master post on them all ;-D SO GLAD you like hearing about that because hair is kind of a new avenue for me ;-D Teleties are really great! Very gentle on hair!
