Shopping Fragrance In Stores? Don’t Do This!

Are you shopping fragrance in stores yet? It’s a little hit and miss around here as a lot of Sephora and Ulta stores are still very much closed! There’s still plenty of fragrance around in a variety of places though! Walmart, Target, Bath and Body Works, etc….But there is something you should NOT be doing when you go to these stores!

Please, please, please remind yourself to not sniff open bottles of perfume when you’re at Bath and Body Works or Target or Walmart or wherever you go. Target still has open fragrance samples up as does Walmart. I’ve been to one Bath and Body Works and they too have open bottles out too!

Please don’t put them to your nose though. I think people are forgetful and just randomly sniff stuff from the bottle without realizing how dangerous that is right now. You know how many noses have touched that fragrance bottle? I’ve seen this done twice so far! Once in a Target and once at Walmart and each time I cringed. I’m not sure what the rules and regulations are for sterilizing these bottles but I have a feeling it’s the wild wild west out there when it comes to actually making sure these are safe to sniff. It’s not like they have a sales rep wiping these down every few minutes in larger stores like Target.

The first time I saw someone do it I didn’t say anything but when I saw another lady in Target it do it I took a chance to gently remind her maybe that wasn’t a good idea. And thankfully she took it very well and thanked me profusely saying how she didn’t even realize what she was doing and how it was just instinctive! It truly is as your first instinct when you see a fragrance is to put it to your nose.

So, I know you’re likely going to reach for something and want to sniff it at the bottle but please remember not to. Mist some in the air and try it like that but don’t put the bottle to your nose.

Be safe out there 🙂

Too right. Check for the weapon bulge, though, before you say anything. Plus, you have to lift up your mask, and who knows what rebreathing into it does? It might ‘concentrate’ just what we’re trying to avoid. One of the most important things with stopping the spread of Covid is to check your automatic habits and be mindful of your own behavior.

I tried some fragrances at Sephora the other day. The associate sprayed them on Paper cards for me. Normally, I prefer to spray on my wrist before buying though.

I haven’t been to Sephora yet! I was wondering how they did it. I know at Target/Walmart it’s sort of wild wild west they don’t have SAs walking around sadly and the samplers are out and on display. I personally think they should have taken them down!

Thanks for telling everyone! I’m scared to go out aside from the necessary grocery trip and work. I know too much about this virus. My husband is studying it to find a therapeutic. (We are scientists studying infectious disease.) I wish everyone the best of health! Health is wealth!

My pleasure! Oh I know I know! I was like that for a long time. I’m becoming a little more braver lately. 🙁 Health is indeed wealth! take care of yourself and thank you so much for your work on this! You’re an important part of this pandemic!

My mask is on before I open the front door to leave. I don’t wait for the local authorities to tell me. Here in Munich, I saw people wearing masks as early as February. I keep an extra mask in my shopping bag along with sanitizer spray in a plastic baggie.

Too bad we cant test the scent of hand sanitizers before purchase. I bought some liquid ones that don’t smell nice. I put those in a spray bottle to disinfect surfaces. The smell of it goes away after the alcohol dries. I purchased some gel sanitizers that don’t smell nice. I may use that on smaller things, like keys.

This virus is a particularly tricky one. The spikes bind uniquely to human cell sites waaaay tooo efficiently. I know a pathologist who argued with a virologist, “where did that polybasic furrin prrn cleavage site come from?!”

And that virologist sarcastically replied, “where do humans come from?!” So that got me thinking. Like humans are so extremely different from other animals, this virus is so ridiculously different from other viruses.
