Lord & Taylor is going out of business! I have to admit I’m not terribly shocked by this but I still feel awful about it. Larger department stores are really struggling hard lately!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I almost feel like I’m grieving for how things used to be with shopping. Shopping in store and leisurely browsing is something I took for granted and honestly never thought twice about before. I go way back with Lord & Taylor and am so saddened.

You’re not alone. Shopping is a really different experience due to COVID but also, even before COVID shopping has been leaning more and more towards online! I do miss the days when you can just browse in store, feel things, try them on, etc…!

Exactly. I’m old, so I have seen a lot of retail come and go. When L+T came to Boston, it was like a state holiday. A standard. A classic. I remember when xmas/holiday shopping was actually fun. You dressed up (even ‘nylons’ before pantyhose existed,) browsed and shopped in a leisurely fashion, stopped for a bite or a dessert. The onslaught and the insanity came ~a few decades later. Shopping was not a competition. Since 2000, I won’t go to a mall between Halloween and Valentine’s. Now, won’t go at all. Online all the way. But my habits mirror many people’s, and put a nail in the coffin for some of the US’s best retailers. Sad, really.
