I know I have a lot of makeup already but I have to admit I love purchasing makeup around this time of the year because of all the sales. The interesting thing about this time of the year is that I’m not really out their grabbing all the new Holiday sets but I sort of browse through and explore a brand’s core catalog because that’s where the real gems are. I’ve been disenchanted with MAC for a while. They may catch me here and there with a new highlighter or a blush but their limited edition eyeshadows are sort of meh as are some of the eyeshadow palettes they do. Thankfully MAC is one of the brand’s that really slowed their role. MAC Collections always came fast and furious even before fast and furious was a thing MAC was churning out collections like four times a month (slight exaggeration) and like many makeup junkies I lived for it. MAC has definitely timed their releases better and they aren’t nearly as plentiful as they once were.

MAC is having their 30% off sale at the moment (no code needed) and I decided I would explore some of their single eyeshadows during this time because you can score them at such a deal ($12 each).

So here’s one of my favorites (more to come) if you love a good matte brown!

Would the reader that said to me, “When you’re older you’ll appreciate matte eyeshadows!” please step up? I was all about sparkle and shimmer and glitter when I started this blog and oh now things changed. I think mattes eyeshadows when I started Musings of a Muse were horrible. They were just so dry and patchy to apply. They have evolved so much in the past ten plus years.

I wanna say my matte eyeshadow life started when Urban Decay Beware came into my life. It’s such a great muted matte brown that works so well for my eyes. It took me down the rabbit hole and I found myself exploring any and all brown eyeshadows. Many years have passed since that discovery and it’s still a fond favorite!

If you want something a little less deep and a little lighter MAC Soft Brown is perfect. It’s a very natural lighter brown that’s perfect as a transitional shade or all over the lid for a simple nude look! It’s one of my favorite shades because not only does it flatter my brown eyes but also, because it’s testimony that MAC does do good eyeshadows. It has a firm texture with a soft, silky consistency that isn’t powder and applies flawlessly with an airbrushed finish. Definitely one of MAC’s better formulas.

If matte brown eyeshadows are your thing I’d recommend checking out Soft Brown for yourself.

Try it! You may like it!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.

I don’t own this but I do love Cork and Soft Teddy from MAC and wear them all the time.

Soft Teddy is a great one too! I don’t own Cork though! Adding that to my list 😀

Omega and Wedge are also good ones to try. I’ve owned and been wearing Tempting forever (does it even still exist?), which is funny because I don’t like browns on me, but Tempting is a nice shimmery bronze. I still need to pick up the powder kiss ones to play with.

I got them! They are LOUD! I like them but I think I need to wear them with something else to tone it down! Omega and Wedge are both awesome shades ;-D and Tempting is around still I THINK! That was like one of the first shades I owned haha!
