OleHenriksen Lemonade Smoothing Scrub Shouldn’t Be Allowed On Your Face

OleHenriksen Lemonade Smoothing Scrub launched today at sephora.com and has 121 favorable reviews already and I’m all like don’t put this on your face please don’t! This is a new exfoliating scrub that promises to retexture your skin while removing dry skin and reducing pore size with AHAs, lemon peel, and sugar. And I cringed. Glycolic, Lactic Acids, and lemon peel? Holy cow. Have you ever stupidly made the mistake of cleansing your face with your Clarisonic and proceeding to use a physical facial scrub after? THE BURN OH GOD THE BURN!

This sounds like an incredibly harsh scrub. It has some really excellent ingredients like Glycolic and Lactic Acid both of which are great to remove dead skin build up but the addition of lemon peel and lemon extract is a huge problem in my opinion. This is really going to make for a harsh scrubbing experiencing. Not to mention it can be very skin sensitizing!

It should come as no real surprise though that OleHenriksen released this as they do tend to favor lemon and citrus extracts in a lot of their skin care.

It sounds fun? But I think it might be a really harsh scrub. I’m going to skip this one! Not sure I need to be rubbing lemon and AHAs onto my skin at the same time.

Anyone who has started or uses the Ordinary AHA/BHA peel, and uses this to wash it off should be prepared to call the fire department. There are so many offenders using bad ingredients in skincare. These days, with truthful info on the net, tiny research would prove this NG. Can’t wait to see this hit Cosdna.

Oh no … don’t tell the folks over at Beautypedia, they would give this a failing grade for the sensitizing ingrediants for sure.

I like the idea of this for a foot scrub though. An expensive foot scrub 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

LOL how odd is it that I think it would make a great foot scrub ;-D

  • Rio

I love citrus scents but my sensitive face skin would be even more red than usual. Might use it for a body scrub.

I think he knows what he’s doing when it comes to creating effective products. It could be a mild amount of lemon. Has anybody tried it?

  • Shelly

Maybe if you use gentle pressure, lots of water? I do love lemon. Samples would be nice.

  • FrugalCat

So true! I think this would be good for elbows, knees and heels- but not at that price!

When I read the title I thought it was a joke. Before reading I thought it truly was a body scrub like the Neutrogena grapefruit body scrub. It must be the trend because Ultas daily deal also contains one by Kinship that contains Lemon, Honey and AHA. I’m not an expert by any means but it seems very similar. Thanks for all the information on protecting our skin. I’ll pass on this one

I saw that kingship one too! Not a good idea to put lemon extracts, lemon peel, oil etc on your skin! eep!

  • Elizabeth

Holy Moly! I’m not sure how this even got made into a product. I can feel my face burning off just looking at it.

I guess I should have paid more attention to the ingredient list, but I don’t have sensitive skin so not much bothers me. I ordered this direct from Ole Henriksen (scored 15% off!). I actually find it quite lovely. It’s barely abrasive and smells like lemon buttercream. I honestly was looking for more of a scrub (yes, I do love to scrub my face), and this “scrub” is really mild. If anyone else wants to try it, order direct from Ole Henriksen – code is OLE15.

I have extremely oily skin at 52 yrs of age, oh how it would be nice to be less oily with age but this isn’t the case with my skin yet anyway. Having said that, I know acne prone skin has to be careful not to aggravate their skin and cause more acne. My skin is extra oily and acne prone due to the excess oil but my skin is not sensitive at all. Which means I need all the daily exfoliation i can get. I haven’t tried this scrub but have read it is mild. Usually Ole Henricksen products for oily skin are in the green containers and this scrub is in a blue one. Just saying because all skin is not created the same. I respect your opinion and value it a lot however this sounds perfect for my skin.

I saw an ad for this and was so shocked that it had both AHAs, sugar exfoliators as well as lemon extracts, that I immediately googled it to see if anyone else thought this combination of ingredients was insane. Lemon can be an irritant for skin. And I’m always a bit hesitant to try cleansers with both physical and chemical exfoliators due to my sensitive skin. But even for people with normal skin, the combination of the 2 types of exfoliators and the addition of lemon extracts sounds like a recipe for overexfoliation leading to dehydrated and sensitized skin. I’m shocked this even made it past R&D!

    • Isabella Muse

100% Agreed Krys! It sounds like a nightmare! Ole does so like to add lemon into everything! CRINGE!

I made the mistake of using this after epilating, with a foreo, and a micro fibre cloth to wipe before rinsing. Feels like I have chilli sauce on my face now.
