Hey guys!

What the story all my morning glories? Totally an Oasis moment whenever I type that sentence or say it out loud in greeting. I binged My Mad Fat Diary on Hulu a month or two ago and I was obsessed with all the Oasis references and mentions. Also, Nico Mirallegro is my boyfriend now after that binge he just doesn’t know it yet.

What’s been cooking this week? I mean literally, what’s been cooking? In your oven. I am proud to say I made the Tomato Feta Pasta that’s been going viral on Tiktok and I did it without burning the house down and people, it was delicious.

It was actually the pasta dish that almost didn’t happen. I ordered all the ingredients on Whole Foods and they had no solid feta cheese available. They texted me but I missed the text so they just substituted with crumbled feta. I googled furiously but nothing said, “Hey!! Use crumbled feta instead!” So, I got on Doordash and ordered a block of feta cheese from the local Mediterranean Market! It arrived and it was crumbled…! Ok, so, the gods hate me. I was starting to believe that the feta cheese shortage was real. Postmates came through and found me a solid block! Thank you Postmates!

Everyone knows how we make this right? Get a baking dish, a cup of extra virgin olive oil, and a bunch of cherry tomatoes. Slap all of it in a the baking dish and pop the entire feta cheese block in the middle of the tomatoes! Pour some more olive oil on top and stick the dish into the oven to bake for 30 to 40 minutes. You can boil the pasta of your choice as you wait. I went with bow ties!

Once the cheese begins to melt down take your dish out of the over and stir in fresh chopped basil and minced garlic. Mix it all together and break the tomatoes up with a spoon or a potato smasher. The cheese, tomato, basil, and garlic will all mix up into a delicious sauce. Now pour your pasta on top, mix, and enjoy!

It was really delicious but it is a bit salty so I don’t recommend putting salt into the mix even though some recipes say to do so. You can stir in other stuff too like crushed pepper flakes for some heat or even extra veggies like spinach or mushrooms! It’s a pretty basic recipe that you can add a variety of yummy things to!

I did all this wearing Urban Decay Gash Lipstick. I have no idea why but I’ve suddenly decided that Gash needs to come out and play again! Could be Valentine’s Day got me in a red lipstick kind of mood!

Red feels way too much a commitment right now. Heaven forfend I unexpectedly need to put on a mask! BUT in the interest of (virtual) interaction with other humans, I went and swatched a few of my favorites and was reminded of my love for: Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Golshan, Avon Perfect Red (a discontinued black red that should not have been discontinued), and Estée Lauder Emotional (which is as close to their looong discontinued Very Red, which had the worst formula but best, truest blood red ever).

And I won’t make that recipe because I liked Once Upon a Chef’s broiled feta and tomato – served with a butter lettuce salad it is *chef’s kiss*. I’m a stick in the mud that way.

LOL! true someone randomly knocks on the door while you have a bright red lippie on and you need to pop a mask on face to answer the door! I remember Avon Perfect Red! How long as that been gone!? Gotta go look up that recipe! Broiled hmmm!!!!

I’ve been making one skillet rice variations. Types of parboiled rice don’t overcook like pasta can.
Speaking of pasta, I’ve been doing the minimal water version. Again in frying pan with water just to the top of the pasta. Continuously stirring. The loose starches work with any sauce to stick the sauce to the pasta. So I do use oil in the pasta water.

Muse, I think I will try your recipe with zucchini, crumbled feta, olive oil, herbs and spices. Again on stovetop. What husband did to the oven is a story for another day.

About Valentines wear, been insisting for two weeks on wearing V-Day mask over this region’s mandatory N95 mask. After tomorrow, will go back to wearing previous stylish mask over serious N95 mask. We have masks here that filter even more than N95! But husband is ok with N95 levels.

I heard that makes the sauces stick to the pasta better too for more flavor! ooo that sounds yummy! HAHA oh no I can just imagine! What happened? Major clean up? I have a standard n95 and I placed a fabric vday one over it for decoration lol! It has hearts all of it and it’s pink! Made me happy on some weird level!

Ok, it’s too good not to tell. Husband makes about ten pizzas to freeze, leaves oven door completely open to cool it faster. Forgets about it. At night he wakes up and walks/falls right into the completely open oven door. Completely smashes inner glass and unhinges one side. Managed to bend the metal too. He does these kinds of things on a regular basis. There is at least one thing broken on practically everything we have.

    Isabella,
Ooooh that feta tomato pasta reads/looks really good, like good enough for me to join social media. I’ll have to try making it soon. Now, on to the lipsticks. I have a shameful amount of red lippies…they’re like my children, it’s hard to pick a favorite. That’s funny coming from me as I have no children but, those with a lipstick addiction understand me. UD’s Gash is a good one. Speaking of UD, Gash nail polish from the 90’s was a favorite red of mine. Back to UD reds…Sancho *metalized*, Mrs Mia Wallace, No Tell Motel *cream*, Bad Blood *matte* I love the Revolution formula but hate the rounded bullet, Both the sheer and cream F Bomb. Nars Cruella lip pencil *which I believe is satin*. Also, Nars Dragon Lady matte pencil. Wet n Wild Cherry Frost 539A, Wet n Wild Cherry Picking 965, Wet n Wild Just Garnet 538A. Revlon Love That Red, Revlon Rich Girl Red, Revlon Love Is On, Revlon Bombshell Red ***love love love this one***. Milani Best Red 07 and Ruby Valentine 08…these aren’t mattes but they dry down and hang on like a matte lipstick. I didn’t include reds that lean pink (UD Wonderland, UD 69 are a few if memory serves) or lean orange like the color of a ripe tomato (UD Slowburn in both the cream and sheer formulas). Can a person ever really have too many red lipsticks? Lip products are my weakness for sure but reds of all shades have a special place in my lipstick loving heart. Avon Perfect Red was a GREAT color, why do they always get rid of the good ones?!?! Hmmm, I bet I’ll dream of pasta and lipstick tonight!

I have no idea if you read old posts but I finally made this! I haven’t been able to find feta cheese in blocks since you originally posted this and several recipes recommended using feta made with sheep’s milk and that was impossible to find. Made it a few nights ago and was amazed at how good it was!

    • Isabella Muse

I try too lol! YAYYYY! I’m so glad you made it. It’s really quite yummy! I’ve started doing add ins to it when I make it! I’ve tried it with spinach and also kalamata olives and it really makes it even tastier!

      • Dee

I’m going to add those ingredients next time I make it IF I can find feta cheese again!

        • Isabella Muse

LOL! I know feta cheese has suddenly become hard to find! It’s crazy! You can try it with crumbled as well but personally I think it works best with a block! Also, if you have a larger greek or Arabic community sometimes you can get nice fresh French feta from a local Mediterranean grocery! It melts like butter!
