Just As I Suspected Tarte Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer Isn’t as Pigmented as The Original Formula

Just as I suspected Tarte Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer as pigmented isn’t as the original formula! I picked up two shades recently when Ulta had a sale and I’m ever so glad I did as they were truly a steal. That being said you can still get yours for 35% off or anything else plus free shipping by signing up to be a Loyalty Member at tartecosmetics.com and using code BFF (not a member? I got my order this week and I’m still testing but as I mentioned in a prior post this isn’t as pigmented as the original. I suspected as much and I did mention that when you go more hydrating with a concealer you end up also losing out on pigment. It’s just very common that hydrating concealers can really bring the moisture but tend to fail miserably at coverage and pigment.

I still like this but not as much as the original. Keep in mind that Shape Tape is actually my ride or die. I’ve been using it since it launched and even as someone with dry skin it still looks incredible under my eyes. I’ve always wanted a more moisturizing formula from Shape Tape but I knew that if Tarte ever released one I’d be forsaking what I love most about the original. The pigment! Shape Tape is super full-coverage and hides everything. My puffiness, my finer lines, my tired eyes, it just whisks it all away and makes me look human again.

Of course, when Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer launched I was over the moon with excitement but I didn’t expect much from it and I got exactly what I expected. It’s creamy, it blends beautifully, it’s an ideal formula for drier or mature eyes. It is not pigmented. This is not disappointing to me as I didn’t hype myself up into believing this was going to provide the same full coverage as the original. And I’m ok with that. I actually do really like this formula. It’s not super sheer so don’t worry about that! However, it’s also not super pigmented. I’m still in the testing phases at the moment but I’m gonna say I really like what I’m seeing from it so far.

Will it replace the original Shape Tape for me? No. Is it something I’d buy again? Possibly. I have to test a bit more before I give you more details but so far, so good.

After reading Isabella’s announcement about the new formula, this is exactly what I planned to do. I love the Shape Tape, but I am a woman of a certain age and really need something less dry under my eyes. 😉 So when they went on sale, I ordered the original formula shades I use (replenish) and the same shades in the new Ultra Creamy. I plan to blend/layer them together and see how it goes.

LMK how it goes! I haven’t done this yet so curious how everyone else does with it!

Thanks for posting the truth! I see so many YouTube and tiktok reviews saying it’s the same coverage. I bought into the hype and it’s just not the same full coverage. It needs min 2-3 layers to achieve the similar coverage and it moves the corrector underneath.

No wayyyy! It’s def not the same coverage at all. that’s bs. When you have a hydrating formula like this you’ll get moisture but not the level of pigment you’d see in a more matte finish. That’s crazy to say that. It’s very nice but not the same Shape Tape I know and love!

Thank you for confirming that! Lol I thought it was my lack of skills at applying it. I love the original shape tape! I’ll deal with the little settling if it means I don’t look like a panda going out lol. Always love reading your honest reviews! 🙂

naa it isn’t you at all! It’s just less pigmented. I love the original as well! Totally my HG! and this is nothing like it! Honestly, if you prep really well (eye gel followed by eye cream) you’ll be fine with the original imho ;-D no matter how dry! Thank you so so much that means the world to me 😀

Bummer! Yours is the 2nd review that said the same thing. Was looking forward to this working out. It’s too bad. I’ll stick to the Pat McGrath concealer.

It’s a great formula it’s just not pigmented as the original sadly! 🙁
