Ellis Brooklyn Sweet is a fragrance that launched in Spring 2020 that was an instant blind buy for me. As a gourmand I couldn’t not purchase a fragrance named Sweet. Images of candy, creamy vanilla, marshmallows and whipped cream danced in my head.

In reality, Ellis Brooklyn Sweet Eau de Parfum isn’t exactly the gourmand you’re looking for if you’re expecting a scent that will give you a toothache. It’s actually a more traditional warm gourmand with notes of pear and ambrette! Marshmallow happens to here too but it plays a back note to orris which gives it a hint of spice.

You may love if you like a bit of spicy warmth in your fragrances.

Sweet can be a very a confusing juice. The top notes are fruity, the middle floral, and the dry down warming. but the confusion stems from the fact that I only ever get pear, ambrette and a healthy dose of amber from this scent.

The initially blast of fragrance, wet on my skin, is ambrette and bergamot. If I close my eyes I can faintly detect the pair but ambrette remains very dominate. The scent should let in room for the floral notes as it begins to dry down those being violet, orris, and heliotrope. I think I can smell heliotrope very, very lightly combined here. The finally dry down includes marshmallow which had me over the moon but sadly, it never makes an appearance. As it dries and settles it becomes warmer and cozier with amber playing a very important part in finale of the scent. There’s supposed to be cashmere here but amber is the guest star here and isn’t giving up it’s spot in the limelight for anyone else to make an appearance. I think the amber note does give this a more unisex feel making it easy to wear for either a man or a woman.

It can be disappointing in someways as the name implies it’ll be some sort of sweet yummy little scent but in reality, it’s a rather simple and underwhelming.

It’s not something I’d recommend as a full-size purchase but you might want to play with a little in the travel-spray as it can grow on you the more you use it!

Has anyone tried Ellis Brooklyn Sweet?

I tried Sweet and didn’t like it at all. But I love Bee, the new one! Smells like honey to me.

I wouldn’t say I hated Sweet. It’s nice just not what I expected! Bee is gorgeous! Very nice warm honey scent ;-D good choice!

I love several of Ellis’s other fragrances (Sci Fi, Raven, Rrose, Myth), but for some reason this one has never sounded appealing to me, and based on your review, I don’t think I would like it. I generally find amber too heavy/masculine for my tastes.

I have a few too! Sci-Fi is a fav of mine. Sweet was kind of unexpected from them tbh but unexpected in a sense that it isn’t something I would have expected from Ellis. That being said though I was actually thinking it was going to smell sweet! It doesn’t so it fits right into their catalog. It’s not a heavy amber, it’s actually lighter but retains warmth.

I bought Ellis Brooklyn’s rollerball trio of sweet, salt, and myth, and love them all. I also appreciate that they are all clean fragrances with no harmful ingredients.

Oh interesting. I was tempted to buy it…but probably as one of the small sets now, thank you! I bought Bee during the Sale as a blind buy. That one was surprising. It has a balance between sweet and warm that’s unusual! I do like it a lot once it dries down.
