If You’re Fully Vaccinated You Can Start Wearing Your Lipsticks and Lipglosses Again

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eased its guidelines today and says fully vaccinated Americans don’t need to cover their faces anymore unless they are in a larger crowd of strangers. They even went so far as to say those who are unvaccinated can go outside without masks (there are some limits to this).

For anyone un-vaccinated it’s advisable to wear your mask if you’re in the company of other un-vaccinated people including outdoors and in restaurants. Fully vaccinated people do not need to cover up in those situations.

Everyone does need to wear a mask in crowded outdoor situations.

Yeah, so, it’s a little confusing because right now it seems like the advice is wear a mask for the most part but hey, you may just see a return to wearing lipsticks and lipglosses really soon.

Are you prepared for that?

I’m………..

Not!

I am not prepared for a mask-free life just yet. I’ve received the first vaccine and I’m near my second one very soon. And I can honestly say once I get vaccine number two it won’t make me feel anymore confident about being in large crowds of people or at large gatherings. It also, won’t make me feel any less comfortable talking to strangers or even being around my parents (my dad has a pacemaker).

I’m still a little anxious about COVID.

Normal life has returned for sure but not quite to what I’d like it to be. I miss eating out, I miss the experience of going to the movies, I miss socializing with my friends, I miss brunches with friends, I miss game nights with friends, I MISS FRIENDS period, I miss my family, I miss shopping without doing a mad dash and run out, I miss concerts….

Are you read to go without a mask and start wearing your favorite lipsticks and lipglosses?

On that note, I sort of like wearing a mask. It makes me feel like a super hero….!

I’m not really ready. My parents are fully vaccinated, I just got my first shot on Sunday (sore arm, a little tired, but honestly a weird almost “buzzing” sensation throughout my whole body? Way fewer side effects than I was worried about!), but no, I’m not going to change much of anything regarding masks. Too many people aren’t getting vaccinated, some people are getting breakthrough infections… I’m just going to keep masking.

    • Isabella Muse

I’m not either. My parents are both fully vaccinated and my sister too now! Some of my friends got their first one as have I. I had the same symptoms as you but not the buzzing! The first few hours I was fine but that night my body was aching badly and my arm was sooo sore for about three days. I couldn’t even sleep on it. I’m going to as well! It just makes me feel a bit safer!

      • Melissa

I’m ready but I’m not fully vaccinated until this Thursday that’s when I get my second shot. So I’m still a bit nervous until all of that is done.
My parents are fully vaccinated and most of my friends right now are either working on their vaccinations or are already done, because they work in an industry where it’s required.
I miss lipstick and lipgloss a lot.

  • Swoozy

I’ve been fully vaccinated since early February and feel okay in crowds. I wear a mask if I’m indoors or can’t be farther away than 6 feet out and I don’t know if someone’s vaccinated, but it was a huge relief and most people I know are now fully vaccinated, so we’ve been able to see some of our extended family and friends. At this point, I mostly wear a mask as a courtesy because no one knows I’m vaccinated unless you work with me or are in my circle.

    • Isabella Muse

I hope I feel like you soon! I’m not quite ready to ditch the mask yet!

It’s super hot and humid where we live already, part of my workday consists of walking an almost mile stretch between buildings several times a day, and I am fully vaccinated for a few weeks now. SO ready to have mask off outside!

    • Isabella Muse

I can relate. I do a two mile power walk most mornings and when it starts to get warm the mask makes me feel like I’m about to pass out. Masks and warm weather=not good.

  • Mary Brenner

I’m READY!! I was fully vaccinated months ago because I’m a nurse. Most of the people I associate with are fully vaccinated as well. I’m going to set my masks on fire and dance with glee!! Thank god thank god thank god they are finally letting us do something normal!!

  • Carolina

I am fully vaccinated but will still wear a mask when I am out and about. I have pretty bad year round allergies and living in Texas, the masks do provide some relief. However, I do still miss wearing lipstick when I go outside the house. I guess I will just keep saving the lipstick for my never-ending stream of daily Zooms.

    • Isabella Muse

LOL likewise! I keep the lipstick for the daily zooms but tissue it off when it’s time for a mask! ;-D I think we should just embrace masks like Japan does. It should be customary to wear one if you’re sick. It sure would help with flu season!

      • Donna Jensen

Masks for life. I haven’t been sick once since the world starting wearing masks. I doubt I will quit wearing one in public even if Covid magically went away.

  • Lexi

I miss lipsticks in a major way, it’s such a spirit lifter! That said, am definitely not giving up masks. The vaccine reduces one’s likelihood of dying from Covid. You can still get it, there are variants out there that are very concerning, and I think folks have a false sense of security because we all want this to be over. Being able to not wear a mask outside is common sense as long as you can keep distance; essential workers who are exposed to multiple people, gathering and indoor dining have high contraction rates. I hate all of this as much as everyone else, and Covid has taken such a huge toll, but yes, plan to wear my mask unless am walking along the beach or am around my small circle, who are also vaccinated.

    • Isabella Muse

Likewise! Lipstick and lipgloss for that matter always make me feel gorgeous! Likewise! I’m not really ready to take my mask off and be out and about with a bunch of strangers…!

  • Kimmwc03

I still have to wear my mask all day at work even though I’ve been vaccinated for over a month. I wear gloss or lip balm everyday but I miss regular lipstick use.

    • Isabella Muse

I feel safer with one! I miss lipstick but my mask just makes me feel better!

  • Christina

I’ve been fully vaccinated for a while now and have been seeing family and really close friends who are also vaccinated. I don’t have a huge social life, so I’m not too concerned about being around a bunch of people who aren’t vaccinated. The only place I really go to is the mall/stores, and since they require masks, the new guidelines don’t really change anything for me. I’d be glad when enough of the population takes the vaccine and we can go out to the stores without wearing a mask. That would be nice with the summer heat coming.

    • Isabella Muse

But what about our date? We need to see each other soon! ;-D At least we do when I’m not terrified of flying due to covid lol!

  • Sakura

I’ve been fully vaccinated since Feb. I will still mask when I’m out running\walking when other people pass by me. I’m unsure about the mutated strains (variants.) Especially since a triple mutant is now in India. I don’t mind wearing mask and did when I was in Japan. But because I’m vaccinated I don’t get as nervous when others are too close to me when I’m in the store.
Even prior to this recommendation, people in my neighborhood rarely wear a mask outside. Haha,I wish they wouldn’t stare at me when I do. I really feel like a lot of people care too much about what other people do. Live and let live people!

    • Isabella Muse

Likewise. I do outdoor yoga and I keep my mask on at all times. I also power walk daily and I do past a lot of joggers and other walkers and again, I still leave it on. Unless I am fully alone I don’t remove it outside. Me too! I had a lot of anxiety about shopping last year and it’s something I’ve never experienced! But thankfully, it lessened a lot. I still dislike crowded stores but I’m not running out of an aisle if someone else is in it anymore either! No problems here thankfully. Everyone in NY is very compliant and no ruckus or drama about having to wear one. Most people do! You do get the occasionally person with the nose uncovered but aside from that all wear one!

      • Sakura

Good to know! I guess that we are on the same page. Everyone at their own pace. I’m glad that NYC is behaving. People are invading my personal space lately here in Philly.

        • Isabella Muse

mmm that’s a little bit of a problem! Personal space. Some people really do get on top of you when in line…! It really depends where you are but a lot of people have disregarded that six feet rule and it can be frustrating at times :-/

  • Mariele

Eh. I already got COVID-19 back in June (parents are RNs in nursing homes and spread it to me), so I already had immunity there for awhile. And now I’ve gotten my first vaccine shot and I’ll be getting my second the 12th. Will you ever catch me maskless? Nope. It doesn’t matter how pointless it’ll be, I’m going to be wearing my mask until most of the nation is vaccinated because I don’t want to seem like I’m promoting not wearing masks and not being vaccinated. Wearing lipstick under a mask is a pain, sure, but it’s the price I’m willing to pay for camaraderie.

  • Dee

Last Friday was my two week period after the second vaccine so am fully vaccinated. Am NOT fully ready for life to resume. I agree very much with what you said about embracing masks like Japan does. Not full time, but if you are sick put one on. I won’t get rid of my masks for that reason. It has never been that big of a deal to me to wear one although I miss my lipstick and gloss and will love not having my makeup end up on the inside of my mask.

My husband is ready to go without his mask and I’m not so there is a bit of tension, and I would bet a lot of couples and families experience this. We are going to see a few of his family members this weekend. All are fully vaccinated or I wouldn’t go. But it’s going to be nice and sunny so will spend my time outside.

There was a really good article a few months ago either in the NYT or WA Post about the fear of reentry and I realize that’s me. We have been so careful for over a year now and to start letting up makes me anxious. But then another article a few weeks ago came out about the risks we take every single day and how low the risk is of catching covid after you are fully vaccinated and are around other fully vaccinated people. The problem is not everyone is getting vaccinated. We have two male friends who refuse to get a vaccine. So we won’t be seeing them anytime soon. But that is such a concern to me.

    • Isabella Muse

preach! I am so about wearing a mask. If you’re sick, slap one on and wear it until you’re better. Japanese people do this out of respect for others and why can’t we do the same? My parents are vaccinated fully and I finally was able to see them Easter but honestly, I probably won’t take a chance and see them without a mask. Just to be safe. You’re scared because you don’t trust others to be responsible! That’s an excellent article because reentry is very scary. NEVER in my life have I experience anxiety until all this went down and suddenly, I can’t seem to make it into the supermarket without worrying who’s going to be on top of me in line and disrespecting my space. sigh. It’s gonna take time for us to feel good about being around others.

  • Cindy

I will be fully vaccinated on Saturday and will only go out without a mask when I am by myself doing my walk around the cul-de-sac. My block usually has zero people outside on weekdays but if I do see a person that mask is going on. Yes, some people on my block have been vaccinated but I don’t know if they observe protocols the way they should be. (From some things I’ve seen, they don’t.) When your life and your health depend on the behavior of other people you just can’t trust anyone.

  • Melissa

Thanks! I’m glad that it will be over. Using like needles but I see how they are necessary in this case.

    • Melissa

I mean that I dislike needles, but I see how they are necessary here for the vaccine.

    • Isabella Muse

Aw nobody likes needles right? Especially this one! I dunno about you but it looked bigger than the flu shot to me! Just look away and you won’t feel a thing! I know you can do it!

  • Jennifer F

I have FOGO (fear of going out) even though I got my second dose a few days ago. I think I will still have FOGO for a long time since I’m somewhat of a germaphobe (my whole life, before moving to the suburbs, I’ve lived in big cities and rode public transportation so I think of it as living in a Petri dish, you have to be careful).
I don’t want to get sick (there is a small chance) and I definitely don’t want to make anyone else sick!
Meanwhile I’m enjoying all the tinted lip balms until I can get back to lipstick…my favorite thing! ❤️

    • Isabella Muse

thankfully I’m over my FOGO. I was like that back in March, April, and some of May but I slowly started gaining more confidence. Believe me Manhattan is def a germ-fest so I get where you’re coming from! Lip balm for the win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Penny

We are double vaccinated, but we are still wearing masks when and where we need to. I definitely don’t think it is time to ditch the mask completely. But how confusing is it going to be when you see someone without a mask on…it might be that they have been fully vaccinated, or it might be that they just choose not to wear a mask or get vaccinated for that matter. Unless you are wearing a name tag of sorts on your shirt saying, “hi, my name is blah blah and I have been fully vaccinated” you won’t know.

I have been wearing my lip gloss under my mask. My hubby and I are fortunate enough to be able to go out on our lunch dates on Friday’s…weather permitting we sit outside, away from others mask free, enjoying our craft beer! ♥

    • Isabella Muse

it’s going to be really fun seeing people’s faces again that’s for sure ;-D good for you! Live life! As long as you’re safe enjoy!

  • MDW

I’m with ya. I’ve had fun wearing picturesque masks and designing them.

    • Isabella Muse

😀 Masks are fun that’s for sure ;-D I’ve had a blast with them.

  • Beth

Haven’t been wearing masks since last spring. No vaccine. My husband and I are fine despite being in what is referred to as “at risk” group. I’m immunocompromised as far as dying from pneumonia. I don’t expect the world to stop for me.

    • MDW

Scandinavian health minister asked of the countries that went into draconian lockdown, “How are you going to get out of it?”

Hope your days are for you and not what social intrusions demand.
