Shiseido Rumored To Be Selling Bare Minerals, Buxom, and Laura Mercier

A Shiseido rumor is going around about the potential sale of Bare Minerals, Laura Mercier, and Buxom. This comes as no surprise considering the huge dip in sales Shiseido had in 2020 which had a near 30% drop. They actually closed a good deal of Bare Minerals stores last year as well. I honestly don’t understand the concept of freestanding brand stores. I think it’s terrible idea to carry a single brand in one store. They also took Bare Minerals private a few years ago. I recall their stock performed quite well. Hm…!

That being said Shiseido has a diverse portfolio of brands both here in the US and in Asia including Drunk Elephant, NARS, Cle De Peau Beaute, and more. Shedding some of their color cosmetic ranges would leave more room for production and extension of their skincare category.

It’s become the way of the beauty world at the moment to shed under performing brands some of which like Becca and Clarisonic do come as a shock.

I do wonder how Shiseido Asian brands are doing as I know some Korean brands, like Etude House, are suffering at the moment.

I do hope a sale is in the works as I would miss Bare Minerals, Laura Mercier, and Buxom if they decided to close down production completely. Although, I will say that in recent years the brands really haven’t shown their best faces.

I’ll share more news as it becomes available about the fate of these three brands!

I’d be really sad if they closed Bare Minerals as that was my first non-drugstore beauty brand. I don’t buy much from them now but a few of the products will always hold a special place for me.

I don’t think they have plans to close or at least I hope not but potentially sell it, yes.

Bare minerals has had a bumpy road… I remember when Leslie whatshername appeared on QVC and sold it. I bought tons of it then – And I actually have some *pressed* minerals from before BM went all loose!! Those are REALLY old – and they’re still good. I need to dig them out and experiment with ’em. Hope they find buyers for these companies. Seems like no one sticks around for very long anymore… Except the giant parent companies like L’Oreal and EL, and Shiseido… Kinda sad….

Leslie Blodgett 🙂 she was the founder and owner. It was def big on QVC back in the day! The pandemic def causes some brands to tip over the edge they already were on!

Oh, no! BE is my go-to brand and I love the peppermint Buxom lipglosses (I know some people don’t like the burning but I do!) Fingers crossed for a good transition.

Interesting. Shiseido completely redid their makeup line maybe 2 years ago, I think to appeal to a younger demographic, and they eliminated some wonderful products and I don’t care for any of the new stuff. Their skincare is wonderful though. Laura Mercier also reformulated their famous tinted moisturizer and basically ruined it (jmho), so it’s no surprise if the line isn’t doing well. Thank you for keeping us apprised of all this beauty news!

Yes, I remember that. It was totally aimed at a younger demographic! I was surprised on some level but at the time the beauty world was really hitting the younger demo hard. Aw my pleasure! 🙂

There’s just too much competition out there when every celebrity and non celebrity puts out a line. The underperforming ones just have to go. (I consult in the beauty industry.)

The entire market has become heavily saturated! That doesn’t help!
