What’s Your Favorite Drugstore To Shop Makeup?

The evolution of drugstore makeup is a long and curvy road. We went from using a lighter on our eyeliners to make them soft and creamy to having an array of different creamy eyeliners with solid formulas for under $8 at the drugstore. We also went from having $6 mascaras to having $16 mascaras at the drugstore. Prices have risen to say the least and with it so has quality. Nowadays we aren’t scoffing at the drugstore foundation or putting her nose up at the drugstore blush. Being snooty about drugstore makeup is a thing of the past!

I have always been a huge makeup and skincare snob. Drugstore makeup and skincare just didn’t cut it for me. I was all about higher-end makeup. As I got older and drugstore makeup and skincare improved I became a lot less of a snob.

One thing I am a snob about is where I purchase it! There are a lot of places to grab drugstore makeup nowadays! CVS, Target, Walgreens, Walmart, Harmon’s….

Which is your favorite?

I am a big naysayer when it comes to both Walgreens and CVS. I find their prices absurd. Yes, they have frequent sales and yes, you can get reward bucks from each but I still find the prices horrible.

Walmart is one I avoid as well! The prices are great but the store, oh god, the store. It’s a mess. Any and all Walmart stores I’ve been to are just crazy town.

Target I’m all about it. The prices are good, the store is clean and organized, but sometimes they don’t always have the latest releases until much later down the line or at least my stores don’t.

But my main squeeze is Harmon’s….! Harmons prices are amazing and beat out most drugstores including Target not to mention they always get the latest releases. Mind you, drugstore brands have REALLY slowed their roll the last five years in regards to collections and launches but Harmon’s still always gets the latest before anyone else and the coupons can’t be beat as well!

My favorite place to buy drugstore makeup is Harmons for sure.

What about you?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I like Harmon best as well, but there aren’t a lot of Harmon stores around, I have to drive a bit to get to one.

Target is always a good experience 😀 they keep the store clean and the makeup section is massive so a good one if Harmons is far ;-D

At least here (Boston area) there’s an ever increasing Harmon’s section in BB&B. A good thing.

    • Isabella Muse

a lot of bbbs are doing away with the beauty section lately! Good to know your stores still have it!

Target lately but I still get CVS stuff when there’s a good sale or bucks.

I normally shop at Walgreens, but I’ll explain why: 1.) There’s no Walmart in my town. 2.) Walgreens is much much closer to my house than Target. 3.) I wait til there’s a sale like Buy One Get One 50% off or Buy 2 Get One Free or look for coupons on the Walgreens app. I also accumulate a lot of Walgreens cash rewards that I use toward purchases. If there was a Target closer to me I’d gladly go, but for now it’s Walgreens.

Walgreens can be good with new product launches but man I have a hard time grabbing cash rewards from them but hey, if it’s easier to get to that’s the way to go ;-D

I have Harmon’s envy. We don’t have Harmon’s in my area and the Bed Bath and Beyond that had a small section, closed recently. I will usually shop drugstore brands at Target and for brands Target doesn’t carry, Walmart (luckily the one near me is actually clean and orderly, just not as much of a fan of Walmart).

aw sorry! It’s the same with many of the bbb here! They used to have larger beauty sections but have slowly phased them out 🙁 I’m not really big on Walmart either even organized, clean locations. Dunno why but Walmart just doesn’t do it for me!

Shoppers Drug Mart or the Real Canadian Superstore in Canada. Both give PC points on purchases, you can get extra points at a spend threshold, or redeem your points to get some savings. Plus you get samples from Shoppers. Both stores are also well-lit and you can see the actual colour of the item you are looking at.

The Walmart near me is fairly cluttered. Some stuff is behind display cases. No real help with anything. London Drugs is variable and selection depends on the location.

Shoppers Drug is such a great store! It’s very high-end looking compared to our drugstores ;-D

I went to a Walgreens in Las Vegas and I think a Walmart in Syracuse. So much more selection.

There is also Rexall Drugstore but it isn’t a place I go to regularly. They do have a good selection.

Walgreens always has a clean store and plenty to choose from just the prices kill me!

Big city in Europe where I live. There is a franchise business model drugstore style store minus the pharmacy called Mueller. A very big drugstore style store. They have a very fancy cosmetics section that includes high end cosmetics and drugstore cosmetics like Essence. I prefer going there than going to DM or Rossmann’s.

Target, we don’t have Harmon’s dammit.
And, I beyond hate Walmart! I don’t care if I pay more at Target, I refuse to shop at Walmart, even though it’s closer. I’ll take a swing through Walgreens if I’m there for something else, but I don’t usually go there for cosmetics.

I like to shop for drugstore makeup at Ulta because of the points and then Target for the brands Ulta doesn’t carry.
