I’m One Of Those Grumpy People That’s Glad I Didn’t Have to Read About Coachella Trends This Year

Notice how quiet on the beauty front in April? That’s because Coachella was cancelled for 2021. Go cry about it! I’m one of those grumpy people that doesn’t care! Coachella is an exciting event and I recall a time it was about the music! I had two great experiences at Coachella. It was freaking amazing. Sadly, it’s became a big PR event the last several years. It’s especially become a really tiresome topic in the beauty world where there’s an endless stream of weird and silly trends that pop up during the two week event. I swear the birth of unicorn and mermaid makeup somehow came from Coachella. I’m convinced of it.

Needless to say, I am so glad I don’t have to read about Coachella trends this year. I’m sorry to be Miss Grumpy pants but I really feel like the trends they promote during the festival are absolutely ridiculous.

Notice there weren’t been a ton of glitter, iridescent, pastel, unicorn hued makeup collections back in April (I’m talking to your Tarte!)….! I sort of like it’s been quite on that front.

I know, I know, I sound like such a grump…! No one is a bigger kid than I am. I’m a complete child but the Coachella trends just made me cringe in agony…!

It’s sort of nice not having to read about it this year.

Don’t hate me for taking a break for enjoying this break from Coachella.

Still friends?

What about you?

Did yo miss the Coachella trends this year?

Or were you sort of happy they didn’t pop?

I don’t mind boho chic makeup trends but all the unicorn stuff was awful!

I don’t mind not seeing the Coachella tutorials at all! There’s boho, which is cute, and then there’s Coachella craziness. No thanks! I’ve never been to Coachella, but from what I heard from friends who do go, it’s not quite the same as it used to be, which is what happens when anything gets too big. I just want the music; I can leave everything else.

    • Isabella Muse

Exactly! Boho fine but all the weird coachella crazy nope and nope! It’s just a big PR project!

Not missed in the least by this Woodstock era turned ‘classical’ freak. I think Coachella was MAC’s inspo for their very famous cultural appropriation collection. Soured it for me, and the bohos look like throwbacks to 1969. I suspect lots of ‘boomers’ find Coachella highly derivative. All I ever got out of it was guru gossip and beauty community feuds. Not exactly positive.

girl I’m not a boomer and I think it’s the worst lol! It used to be an exciting event but PR just destroyed as did influencers! It just became one big parade of PR!

I actually don’t like summer makeup trends at all. Especially when a lot of it seems to be geared towards wearing stuff when you’re outside doing stuff and sweating?? I mean, I guess you could just get dolled up to lay poolside but wouldn’t you already be “bronzed” from already being in the sun? I don’t know, seems silly to me.

I mean, I sort of get wanting to look good in the Summer! Hot girl Summer and all that but yeah, having a bunch of makeup on in the heat not great imho! I think the best is girls at Disney who do an entire face of makeup and wear the most uncomfortable shoes. Props! major props to them! I can’t! I need comfy shoes, minimal makeup, and light clothing! I’m not looking to impress anyone at a theme park lol!

In winter, I wear a scarf wrapped around my face ninja-style (as my Arabic professor called it), and in the spring, I’m chased inside a good part of the time by the rain. Summer and fall are the times I’m out and about the most, so you bet I’m always wearing makeup when I’m out, even when I’m just gardening!
I always figured the bronzer obsession for the summer was for faking a more sun bunny lifestyle than you actually have… or for ramping the bronzer up to ridiculous extremes, ’70s style.

      • Agona

Yeah, I guess it’s just the crazy bronzer I don’t get. But then again, I don’t change my makeup for seasons just occasions”bolder lip in the evening, more dramatic for date night, etc. I’d go pretty minimal if I was going to be sweating all day outside at a festival, I’d think.

I’m not mad at it but I just don’t get it.. It seems like Coachella is for a bunch of it girl/boy fashionistas or tweens. So, I’m not into festival makeup. Resort makeup ….poolside type vibes work for me. Haha, maybe it’s a generational thing…because I’m just an older millennial.

    • Isabella Muse

It actually shouldn’t feel that way but it does indeed feel very tween!
