Rohto 50 Megumi Oil-In All In One Hydrating Lotion is one of those powerhouse products you never heard of but wish you did and now you do! Rohto 50 Megumi Oil-In All In One Hydrating Lotion is an emulsion creates with over 50 different moisturizing ingredients. It’s my little secret weapon for when my skin is feeling extra dry and tight! Since Spring is an on and off again affair here in New York my skin is still doing something weird where one day it acts normal and the next day it’s dry. Combine that with the fact I’ve started using a heavier dose of a new retinol and I could pass for an alligator. It takes a lot for my skin to look as smooth as it does in the pictures you see of me and one of the things that helps is Rohto 50 Megumi Oil-In All In One Hydrating Lotion.

You may recognize the brand name Rohto from your (and my) beloved Hada Labo Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Acid. That alone should make you curious about 50 Megumi Oil-In All In One Hydrating Lotion!

Let’s take a look!

Ok, so, they aren’t joking when they say this is packed with hydrating ingredients. This contains olive fruit oil, shea butter oil, camellia seed oil, canina rose fruit oil, white plant lupine seed extract, hydroxyethyl urea, beetle monodiase seed oil, hydrogenated olive oil, macadamia Seed oil, meadow foam oil, hazelnut oil, rice germ oil, avocado oil, grape seed oil, jojoba seed oil, almond oil, sunflower seed oil, evening primrose oil, squalane, honey extract, honey, and royal jelly extract….and the list goes on and on and on and on…!

This formula acts as a lotion, emulsion, serum, or a cream pack should you like. I personally use it as an emulsion and on a rare occasion I’ll saturate facial cotton with it and use it as a cream pack. It’s such a big bottle you can afford to use it as a cream pack without feeling guilty. It does contain a subtle citrus fragrance but I didn’t feel it was strong and it shouldn’t upset sensitive users overly much.

For me this is a oil in cream formula. It has a thinner, runnier lotion-like texture but once applied feels like an oil. It takes several minutes to absorb and has a highly moisturizing finish on skin. It instantly makes skin feel so much more moist, supple, and smooth. It’s not something I’d recommend for daily use but it’s perfect as part of an evening routine to restore hydration to skin overnight. It’s just a bit too rich and dewy for me to wear as part of my morning routine.

As you can see it’s loaded with a host of oils as well as squalane which is great for maintaining moisture. There’s also propolis extract which can be beneficial for pigmentation issues or inflammations.

All in all, an excellent way to add more moisture to drier skin. This one is a keeper.

If you have drier skin you’ll love it.

Seriously, can Rohto do any wrong? Everything I’ve tried from them has been good. The worst from them has been average. Now I’m wondering, do they do makeup as well? A foundation or concealer from them would probably be amazing!

Hmmm, this product confuses me. I mean, the packaging is gorgeous, and from your review the product sounds really lovely, but the ingredients list causes concern for me. For example, what type of squalane are they using – plant origin, or from shark livers? What the hell is beetle monodiase seed oil, is it a strangely named plant or is it from actual beetles (like cochineal colouring)? I have not been able to find the answers in online searches! And as for placenta extract – who’s placenta? Donated by a human (I have no idea if that actually happens) or taken from an animal? I’ve heard of sheep’s placenta having been used in K-beauty in the past… Anyway I found an online contact form for the company that makes it so I’ve filled that in to ask them these questions (in a very polite and respectful way, not accusingly or angrily!), I’ll let you know when they reply, if you like 🙂

Let me know what they say about the squalane as most US brands don’t disclose where squalane is sourced either. Rohto is cruelty free for a few years now so I’m assuming it is plant based. Let me know what they say about the beetle monodiase seed oil lol as I ddi research on that one but found nothing. Again placenta is likely plant based. Keep me posted about the beetle though ;D

Ok, so they replied, but said they can’t tell me anything! They said ‘because of our manufacturing know how’, which I assume means ‘it’s our secret’! They were very polite and sweet about it though – they apologised for not being able to help and also said ‘please continue your favors toward us’ which I thought was a sweet way of saying ‘please don’t hate us!’ 🙂 I wish I knew about the beetle though…. I know, I’m going to ask a botanist acquaintance of mine!

awww sorry Vikki! If I hear anything further I’ll update ya! Let me know what you find out!
