Urban Decay Launches Prince Inspired Collection for Summer 2021

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

The Prince Estate and Urban Decay will launch an exclusive limited edition makeup collection inspired by Prince on May 27th called Urban Decay Prince Live Loud in Color. Yes, it’s true there will be an Urban Decay Prince Makeup Collection to look forward to and there better be purple in there or someone is going to get cut! No but seriously, Urban Decay actually has disclose that the collection will include Prince’s signature purple shade along side golds and blacks.

Urban Decay x Prince was designed in close collaboration with members of Prince’s artistic camp, including creative director Trevor Guy, who was a close friend as well as Damaris Lewis, who toured with him in 2012, and photographer/director Randee St. Nicholas who worked closely with Prince for nearly thirty years.

Wende Zomnir, Urban Decay brand co-founder was quoted as saying “We couldn’t possibly imitate someone as legendary as Prince, and to compare him to a palette would diminish what he represents. It’s easy to say why this collection makes sense on the surface – his makeup looks and our shared love of purple – but we did our best to reflect his energy on a deeper level. We found his ethos of not asking permission to be who he was and owning it so boldly aligned with our values of breaking the mold and championing all forms of beauty.”

You can sign up to be alerted about when the collection launches at www.urbandecay.com/prince.html.

It’s a little unclear what the collection will include but as we get closer to the launch I’m sure Urban Decay will start sending out press kits with images.

As more info becomes available I’ll be sure to post.

Are you excited about this collection?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. LOL my thoughts exactly! I got a little concerned when they were like purple AND GOLD AND BLACK…I was a little hold up, wait a sec, let’s take it easy with that gold and black and concentrate more on the purple!

      • Jess

Their formulas and overall quality has been SO suspicious lately! I expect– nay, DEMAND– nothing less than pure excellence for commemorating such an icon. 😀

        • Isabella Muse

LOL! Amen Jess! From your lips to Urban Decay’s ears. If they screw this up I dunno if I can forgive them!

  • Lauren

I’m curious about the purple, but the Ultraviolet Naked palette disappointed me, so I’m not hopefully

    • Isabella Muse

ultravoilet was a bust for me too! I hope they do something raspberry too! It would contrast nicely with the purple.

  • Susan

I’m hoping it’s kind of like the UD Basquiat collection from 2017 (was it really 4 years ago already?!?). I only got the blush palette out of that set but really liked it.

If there’s a new blush palette in the Prince set there darn well BETTER be a shade called Raspberry Beret! So many good song titles that could be shade names in an eyeshadow palette…. Manic Monday, Sugar Walls….

    • Isabella Muse

I did Basquiat was probably one of the most extensive launches they did and if they give Prince that much awesome we should be happy! I NEED RASPBERRY EYESHADOW! ;D

  • Jane

I’m Minnesotan. I’m contractually obligated to love Prince (seriously, he was never not on the radio from the 1980s through now. Our AWESOME local NPR affiliate, 89.3 The Current has a Purple Playlist).

Buuuuuut I do actually like him and his music and his volunteerism, and purple was, is and will always be my favorite color. So I’m excited!

    • Isabella Muse

LOL so you’re under contract eh? ;-D Naa but seriously, he’s a legend and I’m really excited for this but I sure hope they don’t mess it up!

      • Jane

Pretty much, Muse. You know how Texans are about their state and people/things from it? That’s Minnesotans, but with longer ‘o’ vowel sounds. Seriously. Don’t get me started on wild rice, duck duck grey duck, Red Wing shoes and Red Wing pottery, Jucy Lucy burgers…

        • Isabella Muse

Jane, I’m a native New Yorker we’re territorial about bagels, pizza, and delis LOL! We def take ownership of certain things too ;-D Totally understand!

    • Lexi

Just had to reply” I live nowhere near Minnesota and am a donating member of The Current! One of the best radio stations in the US, have so much love for it and have discovered a lot of Minnesota based artists there (I believe they were the first to push Lizzo years ago!)

      • Jane

Yep! Lizzo lived here and so we claim her as our own, lol. I’m a Lizzo fan since Batches and Cookies! I’m so glad you love the Current. It’s got a little too much emo sadness music for me sometimes, but on what other station can you hear classics like Elvis’s version of Polk Salad Annie, Batches and Cookies, Prince, they just played the Spice Girls’s Wannabe today…

  • Andie

I’m curious about this one. It’s kind of weird to because a company called Urban Decay does not say “Prince” to me. But as I’ve said before, not that much is very ‘urban’ or decayed’ about them these days. I get that people & companies grow & change, but this is a long way from “Burn, Barbie, Burn!” and “Does pink make you puke?” I too hope they don’t screw this up though.

  • StillPedaling

I’ve been so disappointed with Urban Decay for the past few years. But – this will be a MUST BUY for me. I was a Prince fan since I was a teen and saw him singing Little Red Corvette on Solid Gold (anyone else old enough to remember that show? LOL). Of all things he died on my birthday 🙁 Anyways – I will definitely be buying this just to honor him. Urban Decay better get this one right…

    • Isabella Muse

If they don’t get this right I’ll be very upset!

  • Susan

Have you seen the video UD posted today (5/11)? Hmmm, not very impressive, all flash and fluff. The eyeshadow palette looks like it’s only going to be 8 shades, since they appear to show half of it, 4 shadows, two of which look gold and two greenish. My hopes for this set are sinking like a rock.

    • Susan

Edit: OK, watching again I think there are 10 shades, but nothing special.

    • Isabella Muse

I did and was disappointed. The palette looks awful! I hope there’s more!??!?! but if that’s it, wow!
