1 stars out of 5

I picked up the new Sonia Kashuk Luxe Facial Cleansing Brush No. 37 as I’m just hunting around seeing what will replace my Clarisonic in the future. At ten bucks this super affordable, soft, double-headed cleansing brush has a silicone head for deep cleaning and pore scrubbing and a softer bristled head for a more basic cleanse. Currently, I have a small stash of Clarisonic Brush Heads! But I’m still bracing for the day they run out which has me picking up different cleansing brushes here and there to see what might be a suitable replacement for when the day comes I have to retire my Clarisonic.

Sonia Kashuk Luxe Collection Facial Cleansing Brush No. 37 made the cut recently while I was at Target and taking a long romantic stroll down the beauty department aisles. I can never quite not look longingly at the Sonia Kashuk Brushes and think of the makeup collection that’s long gone.

Anyway, a quick look at Target’s website revealed the brush had five stars so I hauled it but I will say people giving this thing a five star rating are really doing the most because I’m just not that into it.

At $10 bucks this brush is super well made. It has a shorter handle which can be a bit of a pain at times but all in all, I’d say it’s a very sturdy brush and well made. It’s dual-sided as I mentioned above with a silicone brush head on one side you can use for the pores around your nose or where you may need a deeper clean and on the opposite side there’s a very full bristled brush that has super soft bristles. The brush reminded me of one of the It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Brushes. The bristles are very thick and packed together very, very closely. This was part of the reason I purchased it but I stupidly realized later that as luxe as the bristles were that would be a problem later on.

Overall, the brush side of this handy little tool worked great and created a nice lather with a variety of cleansers I used it with. I did find the silicone side a bit hard and it could be a little painful so a gentle touch is required when using it. But if I had to rate on how well it cleansed by face I’d say 10 out 10 for sure! I had an issue with water and lather dripping down my wrists and arms because the handle was on the short side but it wasn’t that big a deal as we expect some mess when cleansing our faces anyway right?

There is one major flaw in the brush! You do have to make sure you hang it upside down when drying so all the water drips off it (this can be challenging since the handle doesn’t have a hole or a little lanyard to hang the brush). It comes with a clear protective case to protect the bristles which clicks around the entire head however, you actually can’t use it because the bristles never fully dry. I’ve tried a wide variety of different techniques to get the brush to dry but every morning after using it the night before I’d come back to a damp brush! Heck I even left it hanging to dry for a full weekend and still the bristles remained very damp. Since the bristles are packed together into a very lush, full head it takes a very, very long time to get the brush to dry down and I’m sort of squeaked out by this as it could start to become a major breeding ground for bacteria and mold.

Would I recommend buying it?

Nope! Because of the problem I experienced with drying it. I just can’t get this thing to fully dry once its been wet! I also struggle getting all the soap out of it. So yeah, this isn’t going to be the cleansing brush to replace my Clarisonic sadly.

Anyone try it?

What are your thoughts on it?

Do you think if we sterilized our clarisonic brushes by soaking overnight in alcohol or something…. we could still use them?

It’s not really germs/bacteria so much but the fact that the bristles wear down over time and become less effective 🙁

Heres my thoughts on any supersonic cleansing brushes…. Your skin is NOT like your teeth!! Teeth have a hard enamel!! Skin does NOT have hard enamel. Skin needs to be treated so gently. No electric brush nozzle thingy needs to touch delicate facial skin!!

Yes, Muse, I tried it and had exactly the same experience and concern as you! It’s such a lovely brush, but I just can’t keep using it as a cleansing brush if it won’t dry out between uses. I’m trying to think of a way to repurpose it…but as what?? I actually tried it with liquid foundation recently. Not good. Let me know if you find any brilliant uses for yours. 🙂

Oh and this looked so lovely and soft. Bummer that it doesn’t dry out fully, that would really bug me! My Clarisonic is still alive and kicking, I also have a small stash of brush heads. I was looking at the Foreo Luna (some version of it) as a replacement, but still not 100% sold on it. Oh why did L’oreal have to do us and Clarisonic dirty like that?!
