I Hate Admitting I’m Old Enough To Remember Sticker Collecting But Lisa Frank Yanno?

I sort of hate admitting that I’m old enough to remember sticker collecting and how obsessed I was with it as a kid. I feel like the fine art of sticker collecting is lost on today’s youth. Can we start a bring sticker books and stickers back movement? I’d be up for that.

Somewhere, deep in the depths of my attic is a little purple crate filled with stickers. This is either testimony to the fact I might be a hoarder, I really loved stickers and love having them around for nostalgic purposes, or I really am convinced that I’ll make the stickers come back movement a thing, and if I do I’ll have plenty of awesome to back me up!

Stickers were just by jam back in the day. Scratch n’ Sniff ones, puffy ones, 3D ones, ones from the Sanrio store, ones you could buy on sheets, and of course, the Mercedes Benz of the sticker world, Lisa freaking Frank stickers! A true legend. I mean, if your sticker book contained Lisa Frank stickers you were a total IT girl in elementary school! Those perfectly awesome pop art stylized images of unicorns, dolphins, pandas, and other kawaii animals splashed across a loud, bold, bright background really were the stuff that dreams were made of.

I remember having sheets and sheets of the damn things!

I always sort of hate admitting I’m old enough to remember stuff like that. I’m one of those people that wants to be forever young and when you compare how I grew up to kids today I feel ancient. I didn’t have an iPhone, several gaming consoles, and Netflix growing up. I had a sticker book and Barbies. And it was freaking awesome.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Oh my gawd did I love me some Lisa Frank as a kid. I also had a sticker book and would collect all the Lisa Frank stickers, begging my Mother to buy them for me. I had folders and stationary, and even a coloring book that I didn’t want to mess up so I never colored it in.

I’ve got too many neon nail polishes already, but I will be picking up the confetti topper for sure. I love when my nails look like clown vomit! 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

CLOWN VOMIT FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ha! Me too! I begged my mom for all of it! I even had, don’t tell anyone, bedsheets! Shh! That’s between us only Cin-Ful!

Don’t worry I still have mine. Its just a little plastic book with all types of stickers, I have puffy smurf ones too. And chocolate scented stickers. I can’t bear to part with it, and I’m 48 years old. It’s the only thing I have left of my childhood, along with a beat up cabbage patch kid!

    • Isabella Muse

dude dude dude I have one question Do they still smell? Because MINE DO! It’s like I just purchased them! They still smell amazing!

    • Isabella Muse

I knew someone was going to say how did the aliens make the cut! I KNEW IT! LOL! Are you kidding? Of course! Jezebel is my bible!

I was a huge sticker collector as well as a kid. The front of my trapper keeper was full of puffy stickers and Lisa Frank stickers. Ofc my folders inside were all Lisa Frank or the colorful sea life artwork folders of Christian Riese Lassen. My dad gave me stickers with my name on them so I could stick them on my desk and my Spacemaker pencil box so my classmates knew they belonged to me (only child syndrome). I sometimes miss the carefree days of being a kid in the 90s when one of my only worries was what flavor of Fruitopia I was going to drink at lunch.

    • Isabella Muse

Oh my gosh, so many feel-good memories there! Yes! I miss those days too!

Ya still gotta have stickers, because you might have to decorate MAC products, when they miss the boat on packaging/design. I put tiny Sandylion (they were my faves) fuzzy dogs on the Nose For Style l/s from that dog collection. Computers, iPads, calendars, half the world needs stickers. A bit of cheer and fun. Youre never too old for stickers. If I could wear them, Id get the nail stickers. How throwback are they? Adorable.

    • Isabella Muse

ha! My gaming box is decorated with a host of dumb stickers! No shame!

      • Isabella Muse

PS I’m still sporting a “I’m l33t as my mom if you don’t believe me” stickers on that box!

The little girl on the Right looks like Mila Kunis- anyone else think so?

  • StillPedaling

OMG this post makes me smile 🙂
I still have my sticker book too!! Actually I had a few sticker books (lol) and I still have sheets and sheets of unopened stickers! Puffy plastic ones with glitter, puffy satin, smurf stickers (and smurf plastic figures…smurfs were def my jam back in the day), scratch-n-sniff…the list goes one! So funny you were asking others if their scratch and sniff stickers still smelled because of course I was curious when I found my collection, so I scratched a couple and YES! Popcorn and cola scent still all these years later! Remember those round scratch-n-sniff with the picture? aaaah, the nostalgia. Thanks for bringing back the good ole’ days.

    • Isabella Muse

I love you let’s be besties! LOL 🙂 Of course I do! My god! I have tons and yes, they have lasting scents for some reason LOL! After all these years, even unopened, out of the package, they smell!

  • Donna Jensen

Stickers are for kids? Pah. I am sorry, I never grew out of stickers and still have a massive collection that are intended to use for fancy journaling. AliExpress has great values on stickers. Like other posters, I had the sticker book and traded stickers with my friends, and I remember going to the mall with a dollar to have the lady at the stationary store cut off one sticker for me from a giant roll. I still miss my gasoline scented stickers.
    Thanks for the memories!

    • Isabella Muse

SWEET! I love stickers! 🙂 I do use them in letters from time to time 🙂 I totally remember having them being cut off from a roll by someone! I miss those days so much! Dude! Gas scented?? I didn’t have those! I WANT! I love the smell of gas lol!

      • Donna Jensen

I have a bag the size of one of those reusable bags you can buy from TJ Maxx CRAMMED with stickers. I know! Gasoline is my very favorite smell in the world. I just did a google search for them and things like candles that smell like gasoline came up. I don’t know if I could go that far…..

  • Vikki Velvetfur

Y’know that account @deuxmoi on Insta? They recently had a few people in their Stories saying that James Franco is totally into stickers! They haven’t said which ones yet (last time I checked) but I thought that would make you laugh, in relation to this post 😀

      • Vikki Velvetfur

Haha, apparently he’s obsessed! I don’t really know who he is apart from that he’s an actor, but I think this sticker thing is cute 🙂

  • Andrea

Hahahahaha so I saw this in my email but it only showed you talking about killing Lisa Frank as a kid. I came to comment omg did you see ulta has lisa frank nail wraps?!?. Well darn you beat me to it

    • Isabella Muse

LOL 😀 I just got your typo 🙂 welcome to my world! I got two of these even though you know I’m NOT a nail girl! Still I needed Lisa Frank Nail Wraps!

  • OliveUnicorn

I love Lisa Frank ! I still have a few plushes , Hunter , Dolphin Dancer and Markie the Unicorn. I shouldve picked up the Morphe palettes and brush set last year.
